Guest Bedroom / Home Office Update (Window Treatments)

Jul 11, 2012 By Layla

We’re workin’ away on Kev’s office/our guest bedroom this week, but I thought I’d share a quick post about the window treatments we’re using in the room. We bought some blinds (on sale at Home Depot) several months ago and we were finally able to install them this past weekend…

We dug out an old curtain rod (from Walmart) that had been living in a messy closet for the past couple of years, and popped that bad boy up there, too…

The curtains came from Ikea (Lenda – $19.99/pair) and it’s crazy how much they instantly softened up the room! I’ll be back soon with a post about the light fixtures we’re using in the room. Those suckers instantly made it feel less like a construction zone, and more like an actual bedroom/office, too!

Little by little, bit by bit…

PS – Wanna see how it all started? Here are the links to our previous posts about this room:

LOVE the window treatments! I’m looking for some woven shades like that for my boy’s room. And love those curtains! Do you know the lengths they come in? I’ve got 10′ ceilings in my kitchen area, but the price would be AWESOME for all the windows I have!

    Jul 11, 2012 at 9:42 pm

so you hung the blinds inside the windows? we will be hanging curtains soon and i want this look but don’t know how to hang them above the windows. my windows are also next to a wall which creates a problem! yours looks great!

Everything is looking great! Love those closets with the red doors.

Those are the exact Roman shades that I have. I love them! Love that they really are “private”. Even at night with the light on in the room, nobody can see in if the shades are closed.

Looking great! I love the Lenda curtains. Have some extra long ones for 10 foot ceilings. Love how they include the iron on hemming tape with the panels. Mine are tab top though. Do they make them in two styles or did you remove the tabs? I need more panels…..best deal around! Love the look with blinds and curtains.

    • Layla

      Jul 12, 2012 at 9:30 am

I cut the tabs off! 🙂

you know, I would never have thought of that – bless you for thinking outside the box!!!

        Jul 12, 2012 at 7:25 pm

Genius! I can’t believe I never thought to just cut off the tabs of my curtains. haha I’m definitely stealing this look for our master bedroom as we start fixing that up. When we got this place it had plastic vertical blinds – they’re AWFUL!

  23. Marsha

    Jul 11, 2012 at 10:35 pm

Thumbs up! Did you purposely create that alcove above the door to utilize extra space or was it existing?

Forgot to ask-are you throwing some blue into the room, or is that too expected?

Yep! Blue is one of our favorite colors! 😀

  26. Susana

    Jul 11, 2012 at 10:53 pm

I love how it’s turning out! I can’t wait to see the whole after shot when everything’s done! I’m curious, did you think about doing the same treatment as you eventually did in the living room to make the windows look taller and also let in a little more light? If so, why did you decide not to go that route? I’m trying to figure out my bedroom windows situation, and your house is what I think of as inspiration for that and then some!

    • Layla

      Jul 12, 2012 at 9:26 am

      Hey Susana!
I didn’t do it in here because there wasn’t as much room between the top of the window frame and the bottom of the crown molding, and this is the brightest room in the house. (And the on-sale blinds we used were inside mount only!) 🙂

thanks for sharing your blinds source. for almost a year i have been looking for bamboo blinds but the ones in store are always way too light filtering (and i’m too cheap/lazy to add the privacy liners). i’m going to order a couple of these from hd to see how they work! seriously, thank you!!!

p.s. the room is fantastic! i love the cubies and red doors!

I’ve been searching high and low for curtains like this for my bedroom and living room! Both rooms need a little ‘something’, just as you say, to soften up the windows, I wanted light, airy and CHEAP! Thank you, I’m running over to my local IKEA this weekend to grab!
