Our New House – First Floor

Oct 17, 2012 By Layla

My favorite space in our new house is the sunroom.

It’s straight ahead when you walk through the front door, and our back door leads outside on the left side of it. On the right side of the room, there’s a large storage closet and a half bath.

Here’s a shot of the bathroom:

Can’t wait to cottage it up!

The first thing we moved into the sun room from our old house was our piano. And when I say, “we”, I mean- professional piano movers.

The second thing we moved in there was window treatments…a.k.a- a roll of brown Kraft paper and some painters tape.

There are a few important things missing from this house. None of the kitchen or bathroom cabinets have shelves in them, and none of the windows have window treatments on them. We haven’t decided how we’re going to permanently handle either of these issues yet, but the Kraft paper taped to the bottom half of some of our windows seems to be doing the privacy trick for now.

If you look to the left when you come through the front door, you see the living room.

And if you’re anything like me and Kev, you see a wall full of white-painted built-in cabinetry and a total fireplace makeover, too- ha!

If you look to the right when you come through the front door, you see the kitchen.

It’s small, but it’ll work fine for us, and there’s a generous pantry off to the left side of it. Right now, everything is pretty neutral, neutral, neutral, and new, new, new- so we look forward to injecting some cottage-style character in there in the future.

Our pets have been adjusting to the new house pretty well. They LOVE sunning on the sun room floor in the morning.

Tomorrow, Kit-Cat and I look forward to blogging about the upstairs.

He should have it all sniffed out by then.

There is no *you* in that house yet but I can imagine that change is already starting in your head!!! It’s gonna be great when you take some of it ‘down a notch’ in TLC style. 🙂

I am excited to see what you do with it! When you get to building bookcases around the fireplace, will you show how you do it? I have something like that in mind for my house and would love to see how you build it.

Love your new home! Clean, neutral and has so much charm. You’ll have your stamp on it in no time. Can’t wait to watch the progress. Put some temporary drapes up using the drop cloths for now! That will save you a few bucks.

I, too, can’t wait to see what you do with your home to ‘cottage-fy” it – I purchased a new home in a cute little cottage style community three years ago. While I love my house, I sometimes feel it’s not cottage-y enough, but I don’t have the budget to spend money when what is there is perfectly serviceable, you know? But, I would love to know how to do things with my fireplace etc. without having to rip it all out.

I’m sure whatever you come up with will be an inspiration!

Congratulations you two! I must admit I was pretty weepy at the thought of never seeing the old “Lettered Cottage” again, but your new place is so gorgeous and inviting. I just know you two will rock it out cottage style, big time! Looking forward to that upstairs tour, Mr. Kit Kat.

I love it. I don’t have a house so i will enjoy watching you making yours into a home! Do you play the piano? Maybe someday you can play and make a video clip for us to hear you. Probably sounds great in the empty house right now.. 🙂 Looking forward to all your decorating adventures.

Love it! So much potential , too! Before I’d even read what you wrote about the built ins, I thought “that fireplace is getting a makeover & cabinetry in the very near future”! Ha! The sink pedestal thingy is…um…different? 😉 But I absolutely love the windows & doors & the style of the kitchen cabinets! Can’t wait to see upstairs!
Btw…Kit Kat is my youngest cat’s twin!!

I CANNOT wait to see what you do to your sunroom! 🙂 I can’t tell you how many times I thought of submitting a picture of my sunroom to you for a Pick My Presto. My sunroom is in the front of my house, but it looks so much like yours with the windows. DO THAT ROOM FIRST! lol I’ve never known how to handle the windows because we live on a corner and need privacy but yet I want to see outside, too. It’s a pickle, I tell ya! 🙂
