Fall Mantel Decorating: Blue, Green, Gray

Sep 26, 2016 By Layla

After seeing so many cute decorations and pumpkins on so many of our neighbors porches, I was finally bitten by the fall decorating bug and decided to give our mantel a little spiffing up. The rest of the room hasn’t changed much since Steevenson came home (six weeks ago this Friday!)…

He’s not used to having (and doesn’t seem to gravitate towards) a lot of toys, so we’ve just got a couple of bins full of his most-played with things.

He’s definitely a “outside kid”, and I’m sure some of that stems from not being able to experience the great outdoors very much over the last couple of years.

I stuck with my favorite colors on the mantel again this year…blues, green, whites and grays…

I love mixing in old books in the Fall…

…my great-great Grandpa August’s Bible, too:

I painted the dark green pumpkin with a mixture of hunter green, white, and black craft paints. It was previously an orange pumpkin, but I loved the stem and had to have it! 🙂

And speaking of the stem, I painted that with some gray and gold paint to give it a more cohesive look.

Here’s a shot of the whole fireplace:

Not a lot of changes from our Spring/Summer mantel display to this one. Mama doesn’t require a whole lot of new “toys” either. 😉

Lovely as always! I noticed your chairs by the fireplace. I am in the process of covering some chairs with pillow ticking and haven’t found just the right gimp to cover the raw edges. Any recommendations? Yours almost looks like it is a striped trim on the bottom part?

Thank you, Sherri! Here’s a link to my post about the chairs:

    Hey Layla,

Love the room! Where did you find the pouf? I’ve been on the hunt for one like that for awhile now.

We have an outdoor kid, too! She would live outside if we let her 🙂 We end up doing lots of non-toy activities when we need to stay inside. This site has lots of great ideas, but might be too young for Steevenson. http://busytoddler.com/

Hi Wendy! I got them from our friend Brian, who picked them up on his property. 🙂

I love the mantel, and how you gather “treasures” from around your home to decorate with! The books and bottles or vases add so much! And your pouf even looks like a grand pumpkin!
The shot of Steevenson and the airplane is adorable!

Beautiful mantel. Where did you get the saying hanging over your mantel? Love it! It speaks to my heart!

I’ve literally just returned from Us last night back to Australia and ALREADY I was missing all the fall decorations there. Your blog email brighten this jet lagged brain with a lovely post on your fall decorating! Gorgeously subtle and still very fall-y!

I bet Steevenson is starting to show his likes and dislikes now and his little personality is starting to shine through. Kids often just play with their favourite toys. Putting some away then bringing them out in a few months always keeps the boredom away. I love that he loves his tools! Another Palmer renovater in the making.

(BTW, you made me cry coz I WANT to go back to USA…waaaaah!!! )

Love your fall decor, no disrespect but I have been seeing orange pumpkins for a while so it is nice to see something different.

Love the colors ..this is in my wheel house..those Casper pumpkins are so cool . However are the more pale blue green pumpkins that true color?
The Bible tugged at my heart strings..I have my grandmother’s.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

Maybe Steevenson’s preference for being outside has something to do with the earthquake. Haitians prefer to stay outside, it’s safer. Maybe it is cooler outside there.

Steevenson wasn’t born until November of 2011 (the earthquake was in January of 2010), but I’m sure that is still very much on the minds of the folks that were affected by it. 🙁

I think Steevenson wants to be outside because that’s where all the trucks, cars, tractors, dump trucks, bulldozers, cranes, scooters, motorcycles and bicycles are! 😀
