Calling All E-Friends

May 5, 2011 By Layla

Greetings!

We have some exciting news to share today!  We’ve been working on something “design TV-related” for a while now, and we’re really excited about the direction it’s moving in.
Think:
our blog in 3D…meaning, low-dough/high-smile room redos, real-life DIY adventures, and lots of YOU!

At this point, we need to see if you’d be into A) having us over to help you redo a room or two (or three!), and/or B) helping us redo someone’s elses space(s). (Maybe you’re a mural artist, or a seamstress, or you’d just like to lend a helping hand by painting a wall or working on a craft project with us, etc.)

We also need to know what area you live in. (City/State/Country)  (You can live anywhere, and every comment will be read!)

We hoping to round up as many responses as we can in the next 48 hours, so if you’re interested, and you have time to leave a comment, please do!

We’re working with some super-talented and creative folks and they’re very interested in seeing the response to this post, so please don’t be shy, and thank you so much! We’ll definitely keep you posted and we hope to hug you soon!

PS- We’d also like to invite you to join us on Facebook & Twitter!

(We’re seeking responses on those sites too! Thank You!)

I’m a little late on this one, too, but I would love to have your help with our house…my husband and I have been living in our ranch-style 50 year old home for a couple of years now and are redoing it room by room. Come on over to Stillwater, Oklahoma!

We live in Madison, WI and our house is boring. The rooms are boring and bland. I love visiting design sites but I struggle to translate the cool stuff to my own home.

Is it too late? I haven’t been to your site in a few days and fear that perhaps I have missed this exciting event! 🙂 We live in Crystal Lake Il.. We are SIX persons attempting to live in a 3 bedroom house.. and that wouldn’t be a problem.. if the bedrooms weren’t so TINY, and 3 of the 4 blessings (children) weren’t boys.. they all share a room, and it’s so very cramped! THEY are all wonderful, and not close in age at all! This past year was a HOOT! Trying to fit a highschool freshman, a kindergartner, and a baby in the same room… WOW! We had been trying to sell our home this whole last year while struggling with our lyme disease treatment… EEeeek.. and adopting BABYand a host of other challenges this year… but the market IS what the market IS.. and we think we may just have to MAKE this house work a while yet.. and/or make it better , so as to be able to SELL it… We have some ideas on how to make the bedroom space larger, which would include swapping the boysz out with the Princess… (she’s SO not thrilled at this.. so … i have have have to make it worth it to her … smiles) and also jazz up the kitchen.. but would love playing around the house with ya’ll…. I confess.. I feel overwhelmed by it all. and don’t know where to begin… THANKS for eading this! you are SUPER, a great inspiration! have a happy day 🙂
p.s. we actually LIVE live here.. we home educate our blessings.. so.. making the space truly workable.. is WAY important.. because … well the other members of the family.are Bunny and Books 🙂

    Good morning,
Your guys are great. My husband and I just finished our 7th house together. We always do it ourselves and on a very tight budget. It is an old farmhouse this time and it is for sale. We are in VA., close to Virginia Beach right now but will be moving to Florida when it sells and starting our next home adventure. My husband and I are both artists he is awesome and can draw or build anything I describe to him. Good luck….Thanks Ellen

I may be too late (just got back from vacation!). But, I would absolutely love for you to come see me!! Just my two cents for research purposes :)……I think the South is underrepresented in home shows. A lot of them seem to feature folks in New England and the western US. I live in the (very) small town of Lula, GA. My husband and I have been slowly redoing parts of our home. But, we haven’t tackled our living room yet. I love your style, your attitude, and your obvious love for one another. It would be like winning the lottery if you came to see me! 🙂

Come to Morgantown, West Virginia and put your stamp on our 1924 bungalow! I have a scary basement that is now 1/4 finished. There’s so much more you could do down there … like a laundry room, some storage space, some craft space, some workbench space. We’ll leave the light on for you!

Apartment dwellers need re-do’s too. I live in a small mountain-cabin-like cottage in Barrington RI. Beneath it’s dated appearance it has a certain charm but one of my rooms, I call “the cat room” really needs the magic of Kevin & Layla’s hands. It’s a room I don’t use much because it’s just too ugly and it is the home to my cat’s litter box (it can get stinky at times). I also have a delapitating deck that needs serious TLC. I love Layla & Kevin’s style–it would suit this apartment that is crying for style. I can’t wait for you to arrive.

Hello, i don’t know if i’m to late but i’d like to put our house in the drawing for your design help. A little over a year ago we purchased our first house for our growing family (mom, dad and two toddlers!). We live in a three bedroom house that’s about five blocks from the beach. It’s in a small beach town Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. The house was previously owned by a realtor who did all the major upgrades to the kitchen and fixtures. However, our dreams of having a bright, light, happy, beachy, family friendly and green home has yet to fully happen. You see, I(mommy) am a libra and i’m as indecisive as they come, on top of that i’m cheap! Most of our walls are bare despite having a closet full art and thrifted decorations. My husband is always on my case about it, if up to him he would be banging nails up and hanging everything anywhere. I like to think things to death! We would really love it if you came and helped us turn our house into the home we can truly love and be proud of. Thanks for your consideration!

Oh my goodness – way, way past the 48 hr notice but we would love to have you in Austin, TX! We are dreaming of a built in breakfast nook, painting kitchen cabinets and installing chopping block counters, an interior barn door, creating an outdoor living space…pretty much anything so our house doesn’t scream boring builders grade!

    May 11, 2011 at 4:52 pm

I’m a huge fan of TLC. The two of you make a beautiful couple There’s pretty much NOTHING in my home that couldn’t use a face lift, even the exterior. I’d of course love to help out anyway possible. Kaysville, Utah would love to host you!

Looks like you have enough projects here to fill 100 seasons of “design TV” but I’d still be thrilled to have you here in Springfield, Missouri to redo the master bedroom and our large bonus room. Best of luck with whatever comes your way.

I would love to have y’all do one of my rooms! Especially my master bedroom. I feel like it should be such a haven, but it just isn’t right and I don’t know what to do to make it so! We live in Dacula, GA (suburb of Atlanta). My husband is a landscaper and totally creative in that realm. We are both big do-it-yourselfers and would love to help out in any way!

We’d love to have you to our place! The hubster and I are in our first home (in MN Layla!) and we need some help with the backyard. We have a fully wooded lot (just under 1 acre) and we’re dying to do some sort of paver patio/firepit back near the trees. One problem? We’re not super handy 🙂 Come back for a weekend to Minneapolis and we will have plenty for you to help with!

Would love to have y’all here! We have an AWFUL master bath that we plan to redo soon! have the budget in place and just need to get moving! We are in OKC, OK. Seriously it is awful. So bad that only my husband and I can set eyes on it. Please we need your help 🙂

I know I’m late for your 48hr window, but if you make it to sunny Southern California, I’d love to have your help with my little spanish stucco box; am willing to relinquish complete artistic control! I’m a busy mom of three boys, and the idea of undertaking my own project just makes me tired.

I am happy for you! I love your blog, of course! We live in central Illinois in a farm house that my husband’s Great Grandparents built in the early 1920’s. It has been passed down through the family since then. My husband and I are more than thrilled that our 3 children are being raised as the 6th generation in the house, and moreover, on our farm. We farm corn and soybeans along with my brother in law and in laws. Our home has been well taken care of over the years but we would sure love any design tips or ideas you may have!

You have so many entries, but we love our little piece of the world so, so much that I thought it wouldn’t hurt to tell you a little about us! Good luck to you guys!

Naperville, IL! We’d love some help from Layla! Our house needs so much we don’t know where to begin. With four kids in a little 20 year old house we need all the help we can get making sense of our space.

    May 12, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Late or not, count me in!! We have a “new to us” house that’s a totally blank canvas! It’s got fantastic bones but all the boring beige builder paint and options. You can have your run of the place!!! Inside and out!! If you ever get to Washington, D.C., we’re in the suburbs of Ashburn (VA) about 20 minutes out of town. I’d love to volunteer to help with a project but I’m afraid somehow the “Martha” gene passed me by! I’m good for cheap labor though and okay with general painting projects. By trade I’m a therapist so I guess I could help out if things get too crazy!! And I make a KILLER swiss meringue buttercream. And my Butter Chicken is out of this world. So, come on by anytime!! And good luck with the new project!

Clarence, New York … we have a cozy little cottage that has been our DIY project for nearly 7 years. We’ve flipped every space in the house (just finished doing the kitchen ourselves) except our master bedroom … we’ve lost steam … but would really like a master bedroom get-a-way space. Can I get an AMEN?! We have 2 boys (10 & 7) who are not strangers to a house being in total bedlam due to a project under-foot … they would thoroughly enjoy seeing your team in action. With regards to “part B” … we are hands-on kind-of-people … not afraid to get our hands dirty … call on us anytime to help with a project :O)

Davenport, Iowa. We built our home 3 years ago and I’m struggling with our den/art room that we share with our 3 girls. We love the idea of having a space for them to be creative (and messy!) but can’t figure out the look and organization we need in there.

I am renting and would love a redo of some rooms but we won’t be here long enough for that. I just wanted to say I hope you are getting a TV show because HGTV is sorely needing some new shows and I would love to watch you two!!! Seriously, how many people want to watch that many episodes of House Hunters????

I am very late to the party. But, if you happen to need a hand anywhere near South Jersey or Philadelphia, I am SO in with gusto. I live in Clementon, NJ, so I am about 15 minutes from Philadelphia. Being in an apartment, I don’t have the freedom to do as much as I’d like without making it easy to undo before I move. And I definitely can’t afford to do much since I lost my job. But interior design is in me and rushing through my veins.

How about an international challenge? I live in London, England and have a 3 bedroom home with a nice little garden out back. It was built in a very space efficient way around a twisty staircase which results in limited ability to carry furniture to the 2nd and 3rd floors so we’ve had to get creative with flat pack furniture.

Its also got the common UK feature of shunning any type of open plan design in favour of individual box shaped rooms… I bet you two would work absolute wonders on it!

I live in Durant, Oklahoma (90 miles North of Dallas, Texas). I am a self proclaimed DIYer who loves to do remodeling and decorating. My husband and I just recently remodeled our home after a water pipe broke and forced us to make some “now or never” choices about the house. I would love to get involved in a project where I can “play” decorator.

You seriously could have the pick of any room in my house. We live in Grand Rapids, MI. We have been working on the kitchen/eating area off and on for a couple of years, but other rooms could use a fresh touch too. My very dear husband is a hard working man and an excellent father. So, when he’s not at the office, he’s enjoying precious time with our 3 children. And me, well, when I’m not homeschooling our oldest or giggling with our middlest or snuggling our youngest, I’m either cooking, cleaning or sleeping. Yeah, would love some help from you two.

Best of luck with the show.

I am sad I missed the 48 hour timeline. I am an event planner at my church, the village church, and I’m between two large conferences. Please come on over to lewisville, Texas! You and keV are welcome anytime. My hubby and I have worked nonstop on our home since before moving in two years ago. We didn’t have a kitchen for nine months due to the diy concrete counter tops, along with the hubby finishing his masters at scad in interactive media. The master bath is gutted at this moment and has been since before moving in as well. So plenty to choose from here and all the help we can get is appreciated.

We just don’t see enough late 1970’s split level redos on tv these days! I’m half joking and half serious. We’ve done a lot to our home in the past 15 years, but still have half of the lower level unfinished. The laundry and HVAC and water heater are housed there, but the rest is a blank slate. I think you two could come up with a few ideas for us. We live in Columbia, MD.

Oh Geez, this is what I get from skipping my blog reader for a few days! I have an ENTIRE HOUSE you can come decorate! we’ve gutted my parents old house…no flooring, no paint on walls, nothing. its a blank slate! i’ll take anything i can get! did i mention 3 kids, one 2 months old in the mix? we live in maysville, ga, hr nrth of ATL, next door to the outlets if that’ll persuade you to come!

I know I missed the 48 hour cutoff, but if you’re still reading, I’d like to add my name to the list. I live in Northeastern Pennsyvlania, near the Pocono mountains and we have a 23 year old home that we love and are redecorating. My problem is that I know what I like: I like your style of decorating…. but my mind just doesn’t know how to get there! Yikes! Help!
We , along with our Golden Retriever , Dickens, would welcome you warmly. I love to sew and paint, and the likes. Just give me a job to do, and I’m on it!

I too missed your deadline. I hope you are still reading these posts. I live in eastern Washington state in a house built in 1905. It was the original farm house, then a boarding house, then a nursing home. It had been vacant for 3 years when we bought in 1976. We have done a lot, but there is so much more to do. We also have a two bedroom family cabin in the Cascade foothills that could use your touch. Would you ever come to the Pacific Northwest? I sew and my husband and I painted murals for our church’s kids rooms.
    Consider us please,

We live in Snow Hill, MD and I would love help with our home. We built it ourselves three years ago and it is very small. I would love different layout ideas to maximize the space. Most of the house was done quickly on the cheap. We didn’t get our CO until the day before our wedding! Now with a 1 year old its hard to find time to make the house what we want it to be. Thanks!

We live in Easton, NH and would be thrilled to have your help with a few rooms. Our main concern is our nursery – we’re expecting our first child in October and don’t know what to do with the room – but there are several other rooms that could use some inspiration as well!

Just found your website today, and fell in love instantly. Your decorating is lively, creative and beautiful, and never goes too far – you stop when you get it just right. And your photography is spectacular! My son and his wife (and 6 year old twins) just (last week) bought a tiny total fixer-upper Cape Cod in New Jersey and have asked me to help decorate because they know that’s my passion. Just maybe, perhaps, could you, would you help? I would assist in any way I could.
