Calling All E-Friends

May 5, 2011 By Layla

Greetings!

We have some exciting news to share today!  We’ve been working on something “design TV-related” for a while now, and we’re really excited about the direction it’s moving in.
Think:
our blog in 3D…meaning, low-dough/high-smile room redos, real-life DIY adventures, and lots of YOU!

At this point, we need to see if you’d be into A) having us over to help you redo a room or two (or three!), and/or B) helping us redo someone’s elses space(s). (Maybe you’re a mural artist, or a seamstress, or you’d just like to lend a helping hand by painting a wall or working on a craft project with us, etc.)

We also need to know what area you live in. (City/State/Country)  (You can live anywhere, and every comment will be read!)

We hoping to round up as many responses as we can in the next 48 hours, so if you’re interested, and you have time to leave a comment, please do!

We’re working with some super-talented and creative folks and they’re very interested in seeing the response to this post, so please don’t be shy, and thank you so much! We’ll definitely keep you posted and we hope to hug you soon!

PS- We’d also like to invite you to join us on Facebook & Twitter!

(We’re seeking responses on those sites too! Thank You!)

OMGosh! How cool would it be for yall to come to Decatur, Tx.? The COOLEST! We just moved into a 1983 fixer upper and there are lots of DIY projects to tackle! I would love to have you makeover either my lovely blue master bathroom or my oh so out of date harvest gold kitchen! I would also be willing to help you in any way I can! I love your blog by the way…I spotted your bathroom vanity and I’ve been hooked ever since! 🙂

When are you coming? My door is always open (even when it should be closed to “the mess.” I have 3 small children and a house that we outgrew after the 2nd. Our family room/computer area is in a bowling alley. No really, it takes up the whole left side of our 1st floor. No matter what I do from new couch, new Pottery Barn rug (that i just got over the weekend), I can’t seem to make the room feel cohesive. It is a constant work (disaster) in progress! Let me know when you will be here. We are in Derry, NH.

A little late to the party here, I just stumbled across this website. My husband and I are currently slowwwwwly decorating/renovating our little 1937 house in Los Angeles, CA and it would be so cool to have some input. We have 2 still empty, still unpainted rooms so a little inspiration is always great.

Hi! We live in a charming cape cod built in 1950. We love our house, but just feel stuck with the same old same old. Our only full bath could use some love! We’d love to have our house Palmer-fied!
We live just outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin and we’d L.O.V.E. to have you!

    Layla,
I would love to help. I love to paint, can sew a wee bit, and love to see a project through from beginning to end. Traveling along the east coast is no problem for me. I have a home on the Jersey shore and on the gulf coast of Florida. I am always re-doing some room and thrive on change. Put me in coach, I’m ready to play.

I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE for you to come redo a room in my house!! (Especially my master bedroom & bath! Or kitchen… They all need some serious help!) I’m in Northern New Jersey, only an hour from NYC! ~Christie

Layla, if this isn’t fun nothing is! I am all for having you over to work on a room (or two) in my house. My boyfriend and I bought our dream home in October. It’s a custom built home that was a builder foreclosure. Now we’re working on figuring out how you make a brand new home feel less new and more timeless. I know you could make that happen! I’d love to have a space like your reading room and a little help injecting a ton of character into my dining room (the first room you see when you walk in) would also go a long way. I’m totally open to having you come over and do your Layla and Kevin thing in whatever room you pick. I’m in Tyrone, GA just a half hour from Atlanta.

WOOHOO! We bought our first home (a bungalow in Winston-Salem, NC that was built in 1929) a year ago and have been doing renovations ever since. We are a pretty handy duo but we would LOVE some decorating help and design help to help us complete this final push.

YES!! PLEASE COME!! Really, any room could be yours to do what you wish with…I have a completely unfinished basement that I think you would be perfect for, especially since I’ve been scouring (is that a word??) your blog for inspiration for a while now. Anywhoo…we love visitors, especially sweet souther gals with ROCKSTAR husbands! 🙂

I love your blog and your style. I live in a little suburb of Salt Lake City called Taylorsville, Utah. I am also a seamstress. I would love to help out on a project near me or in my little 1978 townhouse. I am always thinking of things to do but the money is an issue. Love the budget ideas you and Kevin come up with. This is a really awesome idea. good luck with everything.

Hi Layla and Kevin – I have LOADS of photos to share with you of our cottagey home in need of a new kitchen – or if bathrooms are your project, we have 2 to choose from!! Hope you’ll think about our enthusiastic work and great Kansas City BBQ and hospitality ! Let me know where to send the photos!

I would love to help you execute a project! I can sew. I’m very crafty and pretty artistic too. I have a great eye for detail. I can arrange flowers. I can’t help but mentally re-decorate a room the minute I walk into it. I can wield a power tool and, maybe best of all, I can pull an all-nighter when a project needs to get done!

I live in the Western suburbs of Chicago.

I would love for you to do any of the rooms in my home. 🙂
We’re in Hiram, GA (a suburb west of Atlanta.) We bought our first home a year ago and we’ve been doing a lot of fixing up but we still have a kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a master bedroom that could use some serious TLC.

I also refinish some furniture pieces and decor with a silly kind of flair and would love to contribute if you thought it was good enough.

    Hello guys!

I would be so honored and super excited to help you guys with a project in my home. We live in Friendswood, TX., and have an older home from the late 60’s and I love your style and pretty much everything you guys are about. I have three kiddos and one on the way and my husband and I both can’t escape our creative/crazy minds!! He is a musician/music leader at our church and I’m a stay at home-homeschool mom and photographer. We would love the help in any one of our rooms, but one big project we are wanting to start is converting our garage into a homeschool room/kid bunk room…all about the kid’s kind of room…pretty much 🙂 With four kids are house seems to keep getting a little smaller each day 🙂 But we would be so blessed, so happy, and pretty much ecstatic if you chose our family to help. Thank you so much!!

    Love, Glenna

    Love,

Indiana, PA would love to have you!! Indiana is such a great small town. You would have to come to my house first! We need some serious help in our house, and we will give you full access. I’m not joking, you could do anything you wanted to. We will give you our keys and become your assistants. Anyway, fingers crossed you come our way. Bring your Max to meet our little Max.

Way past the 48 hours you asked for – but would love to have you come and help with my very sad (my words not my hubby’s) house – it never has had a plan – great ideas in my head but difficulty getting into reality. We are in San Marcos, CA – 30 miles north of San Diego – some of the best weather in the country! 🙂

I’m a bit late but couldn’t resist putting my hat in the ring. My house is a cookie-cutter, tiny (820 sq feet)patio home completely devoid of character and interest. You can redo any room you want! There’s only 4 of them so take your pick. 🙂 It would too cool to have you in my home since your designs are so amazing.

    Hello,

What an exciting opportunity for you guys. I love your style and am excited to see your talent in others homes. I would be especially honored if my home might be one of them. I live in Woodinville, WA it is a suburb of Seattle. I live in a home that is about 20 years old and needing some TLC (Tender Loving Care or The Lettered Cottage whichever you choose). It was decorated beautifully for the 80’s but it is time for some changes. I have done some updating to the house but would love some help.

As far as my talents, I love to be crafty, I enjoy sewing and I also love to paint. Would love to help you out in any way I could.

    Take care!

Congratulations! Sounds like a great adventure! I’ve got the perfect challenge for you. My crazy household is made up of 5! Amazing teenagers plus a mom and dad and little sister. We’ve got a converted garage room that needs to become the ultimate family room. It’s got potential with 10 foot ceilings, a red and apple green checked floor, and some big windows. It needs to accommodate lots of family adventures plus hold the lone boy of the house who recently turned 15. We are in Collinsville, Ok (near Tulsa) I love your style!

Layla and Kevin, I’m a sahm to 7 kids ranging in age from 21 – 3 mos. We live in a 60’s rancher with lots of opportunity for makeovers. We can paint, sew, do woodwork, and lots of other types of diy stuff. The kitchen is dire need of a makeover. I would love to accent the lovely 1940’s stove and oven we inherited from my inlaws ( who built this house by the way) We’re in Lafayette, Louisiana a beautiful fun place to visit.

Our home is YOUR canvas! Ya’ll are welcome anytime. We’re in Goose Creek, SC. Minutes from sunny, breezy beaches and seconds from deep rooted history. The most adorable little Southern girls, who love decorating and painting as much as their Momma, would be just thrilled to pieces to have ya’ll drop by and sit a spell.

Our door is always open, just wipe your feet before you come in… 😉

Sounds exciting! I have lived in my home for 3-1/2 years and the kitchen area has been a constant thorn in my side. It had indoor/outdoor carpet, which we being DIYers decided to take up and put laminate flooring but the floor is uneven (ugh), we fixed but now the floor is a lot higher than adjoining rooms. Plus the kitchen is very dark, all dark wood trim in entire house. Not sure if painting the trim & built in hutch and how to make flow with remaining house which also has a lot of dark wood trim & floors. Last but not least is the hallway from the kitchen to garage that has our bathroom off of it. Constantly tracking dirt into the bathroom from the garage and hallway. Seriously stuck on how to “fix” this part of my house. I love my nearly 100 yr old home but just need a little help. I live in SW Minnesota in a quaint little town called Lake Benton.

    Hey Kevin & Layla-

I have a couple rooms I would LOVE some help with and actually have a small budget to do the work 🙂 I have a library that is freshly painted but needs the shelves and a window seat built in and some chairs placed…I have an upstairs living room that needs new furniture and wall paint because it is the friend entertainment center for 2 teenage girls and one wants an updated look (she just got a new dresser, desk and chair for her bedroom from maru at urbanfarmgirl, to give you an idea of her clean style) and then I have the longest running project ever, the laundry room, that needs beadboard, a painted wood floor and a work area for momma. I am a school teacher and plan to work on these things all summer to get the house finished for my daughter’s graduation party next Spring!

I have a guest room you can stay in or a hotel in town…and Mount Vernon, Iowa has been voted one of the 10 coolest small towns in Iowa..so come see!

My house project blog is homestory-anita.blogspot.com and I also am part of the iowajunkgypsies.blogspot.com………..

    Hi Layla and Kevin,

I am very late to the party but noticed you had quite a few comments from Lexington, Kentucky. Just a few hours north of Alabama (more than a few but totally driveable) and still in the South.

My husband and I live in a house built in the 1920’s and would love your help with our guest room, living room or front porch. Or just the whole house would be great too!

We are very handy, have tons of tools and would love to help out if you are ever in he area.

    Good luck with your project!

I am so so disappointed that I am just now reading this!! Oh well, can’t hurt to comment late, right?! I would love both your help AND to lend you my help!

Our home could definitely use your help. With a rather large living room that is giving me lots of headache in the furniture arrangement department, a office/guest room/ play room that is DESPERATELY in need of attention and a big ol’ patio that could use some “cozying”, you would have plenty of options!

Secondly, I am a photographer, I LOVE using my work as home decor.I would be so so willing to lend that to anyone in need!

I think I am a bit late responding to this, but I sure would love to be considered! My husband and I live in a tiny 1b/1ba duplex built in the 1940’s in Los Angeles. We rent it, so nothing could really be done foundationally to the place, unless we received permission from my lovely landlady. It has so much character and potential. I popped on your site today to look for decorating ideas, as we are both drawn to your style, but don’t know where to begin, especially with a non-existent budget. Looking forward to seeing who you choose and the outcomes!

I adore The Lettered Cottage and would love to participate in your new adventure. We are in Richmond, VA and live in a house that needs some architectural interest. I’ve begun that challenge with some beadboard and such, but it is calling out for a TLC touch! I can paint a room and can sew basic home decor things. Can’t wait to hear about it all!

You’re welcome to come help with my house!!! My husband and I will soon be bringing our first baby to our first home in Franklin, TN and could use some decor advice…especially in the living room. I’d love to have your help! We are newlyweds and just bought our first home. It’s a late ’50’s ranch and is lacking in personalty. :/ Not only do we need help inside, but we could use a little assistance in both the front and backyards. We live on a 14,000 SF lot on a major road, so turning our backyard into a usable living space (while trying to look past the road noise) would be amazing. Did I mention that we’re newlyweds, in our first home and broke?! DIY is a must! 🙂

I’m late at getting in on the action, but I wanted to put in my two cents’ worth. Going by all the Michigan responses, it looks like you could come here and spend the summer going from house to house. It’s a great place to spend the summer, btw! I would LOVE to have you re-do a room or two!! We live in the Zeeland/Holland area.
