Calling All E-Friends

May 5, 2011 By Layla

Greetings!

We have some exciting news to share today!  We’ve been working on something “design TV-related” for a while now, and we’re really excited about the direction it’s moving in.
Think:
our blog in 3D…meaning, low-dough/high-smile room redos, real-life DIY adventures, and lots of YOU!

At this point, we need to see if you’d be into A) having us over to help you redo a room or two (or three!), and/or B) helping us redo someone’s elses space(s). (Maybe you’re a mural artist, or a seamstress, or you’d just like to lend a helping hand by painting a wall or working on a craft project with us, etc.)

We also need to know what area you live in. (City/State/Country)  (You can live anywhere, and every comment will be read!)

We hoping to round up as many responses as we can in the next 48 hours, so if you’re interested, and you have time to leave a comment, please do!

We’re working with some super-talented and creative folks and they’re very interested in seeing the response to this post, so please don’t be shy, and thank you so much! We’ll definitely keep you posted and we hope to hug you soon!

PS- We’d also like to invite you to join us on Facebook & Twitter!

(We’re seeking responses on those sites too! Thank You!)

I missed the 48 hour window…sorry. I would love for my 1985 home to be blessed by the touch of your talent and, of course, you could pick any room you want. I live 20 miles south of Dallas close to Waxahachie, Texas (which is a very historic and beautiful part of Texas).

It would be so much fun helping out on a project. I have just started a design buisness and love DYI projects. I live in Reisterstown Md just outside of Baltimore. I love that everybody is so eager to join together and create something wonderful in our buisness. Creative people are great!. So definitely if your near my way I would love to help out.

Wow! That is awesome! I love your work! We built our Austin stone home in 2005. I have a guest room, bath & closet on the “other'”end of the house…that is the other end from the rest of the bedrooms. We just had water damage for the 2nd time to that room and I’ve decied to gut it and start over. So, it would be a clean slate to start with! I live 50 miles south of Dallas, Tx on a farm/ranch and would love to have yall over! Any other room you decided to touch would be perfectly fine with me.

My husband and I are newlyweds who just bought our first house in Austin, Texas. It’s a 1971 fixer! We’ve got most of the contracting done, but we’ll need help decorating, especially since we need to blend in 1970s colonial with 2011 modern. We need help putting together our game room and offices. We’re puzzled in how to make an office functional but cozy. Somehow our offices have always looks industrial and cold = NO BUENO. PLEASE help!!!!

Hi! We have a 25 year old house with a lot of “quirks” in Naples, Florida. I am a stay at home mom, and my husband is a youth relations deputy (who puts in WAY too much time trying to keep up with our little fixer upper). We have been married for 15 years this July and will be welcoming our second child in early October. We could use help fixing up the nursery and making a special room for our 5 year old daughter. Another option would be our enormous backyard space that is in need of some major love OR converting our detached garage (aka the black abyss) into a special space for my husband (esp. if we find out that this new little one is a girl….he will be outnumbered and would really appreciate a space of his own). Thanks! 🙂

How cool for you guys! I’ve been following along with your DIY hijinx and your amazing adoption journey. Both inspiring.

We bought a cape cod in northern Maryland from it’s original owners and builder 8 yrs ago and have been trying to put our stamp on it. Our style is probably “craftsman cottage” (the craftsman being more my hubs and cottage more me). We have this family-room-thingy that we’re finding IMPOSSIBLE to design. Monster 70’s brick fireplace up to the ceiling in a corner, 2 doors on one wall, a door and big, weird nook on another, double windows and door to the screen porch on another and open to the kitchen/penninsula on the last. IMPOSSIBLE. Started as a family room, turned into a playroom (and we both HATE the playroom and the boys–who are 2 and 4–are NEVER in there).

    HELP!

I’ve posted already, but forgot to include a lot of the info you wanted. I mentioned that I have a boring builders kitchen that I would love to redo. I’m thinking light and bright with some rustic and a touch of industrial. At least that’s my dream! Now for the rest of the info you needed…. 🙂 We live in Las Vegas. I’m a stay at home mom, with a 1 year old son. I can do a little of a lot of things… paint, sew, craft, etc. My husband is handy and works in construction management so we probably have access to a lot of tools needed. Anyway- I hope everything works out for you guys as you do this!

I have a tiny three bedroom (as in, the bedrooms are in fact tiny) ca. 1925 cottage just off the beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida. (You know it’s a real cottage when you can look thru the cracks in the floor and see the sand below!). It’s very “you” — reminiscent of the Officer’s Mess on Tybee. In fact, you and Jane Coslick are my design gurus. We bought Journey’s End Caretaker Cottage last June and spent the summer painting and primping the old girl. My project for this summer is the kitchen with your cabinet tutorial as my guide (she writes, optimistically). Reading your blog gives me courage to tackle this project — best of luck on your latest endeavor!

I cannot find my original comment. I would like to volunteer muscle and positive attitude while willing to work my butt off to help one of your Texas reader’s rooms be transformed. I live in Houston but Texas is a big state, and I know my way around it and am willing to travel.

    Hi there,

My name is Jessica, and my husband (Adam), and 2 Sons (Owen, 3 and Henry, 8 mo) live in North Hampton, NH. North Hampton is a town on the small New Hampshire coastline. We recently moved into out first home and we have had our work cut out for us. My favorite project has been re-doing the 70’s era brick veneer fireplace a la The Lettered Cottage. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
Our biggest “design dilemma” is that the previous owner converted the one-car garage into a hair salon for their in home business. Well, I am not a hair stylist so we need not have a salon in our home. What I really need is a playroom/family/room/creative storage/work area (yikes). This room is a blank slate, we have not known how to tackle the super high ceilings, sky light and window filled, vinyl floored, industrial-ish room…but man does it have great potential. In my dreams it would have an outdoor shower right outside the back door to make it easier to clean up after the beach-but that is a whole other post!
Please help us, please. We need you. NH is beautiful in the summer and fall (think leaf peeping) and we live within 20 minutes of a great antiques market called Todd Farm and about 1.5 hours from Brimfield market (ask Martha…it’s oh so good) Could be fun!

Please consider us, I’d be happy to send pics.
    ‘Jess

Please come to Sigourney, IA. I live in the middle of nowhere, and my house needs you! We built a new house in 2009 and the finished basement is a blank slate! The downstairs bedroom has built in beds in the wall trimmed out in car-siding. You’d love them!

    Hi Kevin and Layla,
My husband and I live in a big, four-square farmhouse in southern Minnesota. (It’s the home Jordan grew up in and we are the fifth generation to live on the family farm). Since we got married in August 2008, we’ve been working hard to make the house our home – we’ve gone from room to room, fixing cracks in the plaster, painting, replacing fixtures – basically, just giving the house a needed facelift on a small budget. Our house is basically done except for some flooring and: the basement. That’s what I’m hoping you two could help us with!
Here’s the scenario: painted concrete floor, 80s wildlife paneling on the walls and a drop-ceiling. We use the space as a hang-out – we have a TV down there and a big couch but other than that the room is in desperate need of some creativity.
We would love to have you guys help us out! So, if you’re willing to come to our farm outside of a really small town in Minnesota, we’d love to have you! And please let me know if you’d like to see some pictures.
    Thanks,
    Jordan and Katie

Hey! My mom, a faithful fan and reader of your blog, introduced me to your blog. Your creativity is amazing! I just watched the videos of how to refinish hardwood floors. It was very helpful; however I’m not 100% confident my husband or I could do it right (or make it through without holes in the floor)! First things first…YES!! We need your help. My husband and I are in the somewhat newly married phase, and we love to work on our retro 50’s home with help of course. Our house was built in 1953, and we have two rooms that have been neglected. They now sport some pretty gross, green carpet that needs to go!!! We are hoping to have a baby, which would make one of the “green rooms” our guest room. This thought alone terrifies me. I couldn’t put my in- laws or friends in the rooms without a make over. I would absolutely LOVE some professional help! We live in Hoover, Alabama!!! Good luck on your adventures!!!

We have two or three rooms we could use help with 🙂 We live in Snellville, GA (a suburb of Atlanta) The first room I would love help with would be the master bedroom. We have furniture in all our other rooms except our master bedroom. It’s really void of any personality and could use a new look. Also our kitchen is sad for the size that it is. I literally have about 4 foot of counter top space in the whole kitchen. I would love any help 🙂

Central Illinois (Bloomington, Illinois) would love to welcome you…and have you over for while. We have more than enough for you to work on. Bonus for Kevin, my hubby has a basement full of guitars, drum kit, and amps out the wahzoo…..it’s jam time when he needs a break from working on our house! My hubby plays in our praise band at church and with his buddies 🙂
Please consider Illinois, it’s perfect right in the middle between Chicago and St. Louis!

    Blessings on this awesome adventure!

My husband and i bought our first house in 2006. The only one we could afford in our area was a townhouse. It was an old sprayed cream canvas adn we were convienced we would put our stamp on it in no time. Well 5 years later and we have painted the kitchen, den, dinning room and my daughters bedroom. We have put up waynes coating in the dinning room and that’s it!! We have wonderful furniture that was gifted to us by my in-laws when were got married, but it’s HUGE and our room is still cream. When i say cream i mean the walls, floorboards, doors, even outlets and switch plates. EVERYTHING.

Please help! I need a haven to go to!

Omaha, Nebraska is in dire need of your help! We are a military family recently stationed here. We bought a house hoping we would stay awhile (jury’s still out on that!) but we would love your help! We’ve lived in California, Colorado, South Dakota and Germany, but maybe because this could be our “forever home” we’re having the most trouble making it “homey”. Your help would be so appreciated!

Come on up to the Chesapeake Bay “coastal” living area! Our house is in Severna Park, Maryland, in an old established community on the Severn River, just beyond Annapolis. We are retaining the original character of our 1952 Cape Cod while making it more interesting and functional–and personal–for us and and our two young sons. There’s some great antiquing around here, and a nationally known “cottage” furniture company, Russell and Mackenna, just up the street that might be interested in getting involved. Most in need…our master bathroom and our boys’ bathroom.

We’d love to host an old-fashioned Maryland crab feast for you and Kevin down at our community beach!

Thanks for keeping it real–and inspiring–for those of us on a budget who don’t want to sacrifice on style.

I beg of you, come and redo my kitchen!!! We live in a Cape Cod house built in the 20’s, I believe…but the kitchen is a mix of 80’s and 90’s yuck. Peal-and-stick vinyl tile on the floor — need I say more? The backsplash is dark and outdated and the counters, well, they are begging to be trashed. It just doesn’t fit with the character of our house at all.
I realize I’m past the deadline…but, perhaps you will still read this. 🙂 We are in Holland, Michigan!

Awesome!!! I’m in Lewisville, TX, a little north of Dallas. We just bought our house last June, and it’s come a long way, but we still have so many projects we want to do. Some are already planned, like new flooring throughout (ideally!) and a brick wall in our dining room, but there are still some rooms that just annoy me, and no matter what I do, I feel like they’re missing something. I’d love to get some advice/ideas from you guys! Our house definitely needs some TLC!!!

I posted earlier but wanted to add that if you’re up for outdoor projects I have a covered deck/porch-type area that is begging for some cottage appeal! I live in a 1 1/2 story house built in 1981 that I am so badly trying to make into our own little cottage. Your blog is myinspiration! So I’m up for anything in any room of my house.

I also liked the comment earlier by someone who said it’s time for decorating shows to happen somewhere besides big cities. The rest of us need help, too!

My husband, two dogs and I moved into our house in February and renovated the kitchen but are at a loss for our fireplace and one mystery room that is a bedroom/office and has french doors onto our back deck. I would love for you guys to come and visit us in Westbrook, ME (right outside of Portland). We live in a beautiful city and our house is a 1930’s four square style colonial. We bought the house 4 years ago and bought it “as is” from an 85 year old bachelor. The house is coming along but could really use your help!! This year we are working on the the outside (siding, yard etc. ) and the 2nd floor (bedrooms and office). Portland, ME would be a beautiful place to visit and to top it off my family could use some help at our family’s summer cottage on Frye Island, ME. Please come and visit!!!

I have a bedroom I can’t figure out what to do with. It’s a small with a tiny closet and random chimney in the middle of the wall. The furniture is a mishmash and it needs some help desperately. So, I’m VERY late to the game, but if you ever need a house to work on in Sacramento, CA, you’re welcome to come take over ours. My husband and I just bought our first home and it’s a bungalow/cottage style built in 1949. We’re doing our best to be “crafty”, but we’re still learning. We seriously geeked out when you put the gym floor on the wall in the room in your house, and are continually inspired by your never ending ideas. Thanks so much to you both for inspiring us!

I just saw your post today and thought I would take a chance and respond! We live in Edmonds,
WA, close to Seattle, and are slowly renovating a 1960’s home. DIY design shows are a favorite around here. We never have enough time or $ to get things exactly how we would like and would love some help!
