Calling All E-Friends

May 5, 2011 By Layla

Greetings!

We have some exciting news to share today!  We’ve been working on something “design TV-related” for a while now, and we’re really excited about the direction it’s moving in.
Think:
our blog in 3D…meaning, low-dough/high-smile room redos, real-life DIY adventures, and lots of YOU!

At this point, we need to see if you’d be into A) having us over to help you redo a room or two (or three!), and/or B) helping us redo someone’s elses space(s). (Maybe you’re a mural artist, or a seamstress, or you’d just like to lend a helping hand by painting a wall or working on a craft project with us, etc.)

We also need to know what area you live in. (City/State/Country)  (You can live anywhere, and every comment will be read!)

We hoping to round up as many responses as we can in the next 48 hours, so if you’re interested, and you have time to leave a comment, please do!

We’re working with some super-talented and creative folks and they’re very interested in seeing the response to this post, so please don’t be shy, and thank you so much! We’ll definitely keep you posted and we hope to hug you soon!

PS- We’d also like to invite you to join us on Facebook & Twitter!

(We’re seeking responses on those sites too! Thank You!)

OMG! What timing….I am in the middle of a move, from the western shore of Maryland (Glen Burnie, zip 21061) to the Eastern Shore (Berlin/Ocean City MD zip 21811). For the first house, it could use some sprucing up for the soon-to-be-sale, or the beachhouse could use an updated room or two or three (maybe even outside??). And if you are in my area and need help, I’d be happy to pitch in!

I’d love to have you come and do a room or two in my house- it is what we affectionately refer to as a ‘psuedo tudor’ from the early 1980’s. We’ve been here a year and have painted the first and second floors- but have some major remodeling that needs done (rooms need switched around- long story but we’re trying to ‘fix’ a bad remodel that was done before we bought the house. ) We also need some major landscaping and a total face lift in the front of the house.
So much to do, so little time!

I’d be willing to throw my hat into the right for helping with a makeover- I can paint!

I would love to have you come help me finish a space or two.

Our kitchen is next on the overhaul list, and our family room/ office. BUt we just had our second child so now we have two under 2….it is SO hard to get anything done with two kids, and heck I love everything you do! I am sure the response you have gotten has been HUGE… but you are always welcome here…if I need to beg, let me know! And we have tons of tools, and DIY skills…

We are in Fort Worth Texas!

Thanks, for letting us even ask!

Oh Layla, I don’t know if we are what you are looking for becasue we don’t own our home, we rent, and I know that you like to make structural changes. Obviously in a rental it would be all cosmetic. We did own a home that we made quite pretty, but after a layoff and large income decrease over the past 2 years we lost that home to foreclosure. We have made our current rental quite nice but I have blue carpet and vertical blinds over the large window in the HOT (we live in Arizona) bedroom. I would never choose blue carpet or verticals but I need to live with them. I am sure we could take down the blinds but $$ are an issue, and I don’t know what would be affordable, attractive and block sunlight, yes in Az in summer we NEED to block light or rooms turn into ovens. Other things could be done to make the room more to our taste I am sure, but I feel in a bit of a rut about the place. Your genius touch would transform the room I know.

Yes on all of the above!
I’d love to have you come over and redo my whole house. Yes please.
I’d love to help out any way I could too.
But seeing that I live in the Netherlands that probably isn’t going to happen.
So I hope you tv plans are of the online kind and then I will sure tune in to your channel. Count on it.

Oh my…i think I’m comment one million and seven! You have a lot of people wanting you to come help them with some design woes!

I’m pretty happy with my house and my yard, but the one thing I do need help with is how to decorate a bedroom dominated by a huge, beautiful log bed. It’s a tricky one – we love the bed (my hubby made it years ago) but what else do you put with it?? If you feel like coming to Vancouver, Canada, we’d love to have you.

If you do come up this way to redo someone else’s living space I would love to help out! I’ve got a green thumb and a knack for balance, scale and proportions within a home (unless, of course, the room has a log bed!).

I’m such a fan of your work! We live in Arlington, TN & would be overjoyed to have you tackle our living room (open to our kitchen which has cabinets with a less than stellar paint-job!) We have a 2 yr old girl whose room would be fun to do, as well, as our master – or our large multi-purpose bonus space… Oh the list goes on & on.

Our little family just grew by one about three months ago and though we’ve been slowing updating and decorating our house a room at a time for the past five years since we got married, we don’t have time or energy for anymore updates with a new baby. Come meet our precious girl and lovey puppy dog and take a look at our living room, dining room, or kitchen… they are all in need of a facelift Layla-style. We’re in San Jose, CA… Do you know the way to San Jose?! 😉

Best wishes for your new endeavor!!

We built a new house last year and it could use some “character” and you guys definitely have plenty of that. My sister also needs your help over at her house! We both live in Benton, KY. I can sew and my sis is super with a computer, she teaches computer classes at the high school level. We would be more than happy to help with any projects 🙂 I check your blog daily and always get loads of inspiration!!!

I’d love to have you here or I’d help you too. We have a lovely home that was built in the 1980s– great bones but needs those modern touches. I love interior design and thinking out of the box for ways to build a great home on a budget. We hail from Lincoln NE

Option A: Location: Suburbs of Washington, DC (Virginia) Come visit! You could tour DC, visit the equestrian countryside and help remodel a super scary bathroom (or pick any other room-bedroom/kitchen!) 6 weeks ago my 34 year old husband went into cardiac arrest and now has a pacemaker (one time blog post outlines how the Lord provided every perfect step of the way)– Matt is a teacher, we have 3 children and we purchased our 1977 home last summer. We have done many home projects and have many more in our binder of “to dos.” We read your blog every week and are inspired by all you do. We welcome you! Please, come to Virginia!

Yes, of course, we would love you to come here to redo a room or 2 (or 3) in our house! Right now, we are in the process of renovating our Master Bath, and it has taken SOOO LONG since my husband and I both work full time jobs and spend our evenings shuttling our 2 kids to activities. We live in a 50 year old house, and our KITCHEN needs a MAJOR overhaul! I don’t even know where to start. We can also help someone else out – my husband is very good with tools and I can sew. We are in North Augusta, SC – right across the Savannah River from Augusta, GA. Come on over!

We live in the north Atlanta suburbs. We’ve redone a lot already, but I’d love help with either 1- the kitchen or 2- the master bedroom. The first would be more painting cabinets, changing countertops etc. The second much more decor oriented. It’s a big room with lots of potential and NOTHING going on…yet. I love the thoughtful details you guys have added to your place!

Come to Macon, GA. I would love for someone to help me figure out how to make my kitchen more open to my living room and dining room. Even though Macon is in the middle of Georgia, I am a sun and sand girl at heart. When I read on your website that your style is coastal, country and casual I thought “me, too!” Although, right now my home decor is mainly from Kirkland’s. The central feature of my living room is a huge fireplace and mantel, which could use a little style. Macon isn’t too far from you. Wouldn’t you like for your new show to start out a little close to home?

Come to beautiful Seattle! I have lots of DIY blog following friends (yours is our fav of course) who are pretty savy at this DIY stuff. I would love to help someone else or we could have at my unfinished basement!! ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES. I have done my share of sewing curtains and own a vinyl lettering business with ‘sky is the limit’ ideas. The Pacific Northwest would welcome you with open arms!!!

Hello! This is so exciting! I’ve been reading your blog for about a year now and I just love your re-do’s! We just bought our house last May, So it’s been one year and it’s has so much work to be done. You could do any room that you wanted to, your pick!:) It’s a victorian style house built in 1915, super cool little house with tons of character, think Vaulted rounded out ceilings, huge corbals (that is not how you spell it I know..) and funky old windows that are in ever room of the house! We have french doors out to part of our backyard, doors with funky old knobs, you name it!
We are in the heart of the wine country in Northern Ca, Santa Rosa! We would even take you wine tasting:) Although I won’t be drinking since I’m pregnant….that means you could practice re-doing a nursery!!!
Anyways I can’t wait to see what comes of your 3-D Blog I’m so super excited for you guys, you are both amazingly talented!! I wish I could add your touch to my casa!

    A) YES!!!
    B) YES!!! (I’m always up for a little wall painting!)

Hey there Kev & Layla! I live in New Market, Virginia smack dab in the middle of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Both my husband and I are teachers, but right now I’m taking time off to be at home with my one year old son, work on fixing up my 130+ year old house, and start up a little photography business.

We bought our house 2 years ago. We’ve been working on it ever since. There’s not a single finished room in the whole place. We are big DIYers with a tiny budget. The house was built between 1879 and 1885. The property was used as a roller skating rink during the late 1880s (a popular pastime during that decade) and then it became The Traveler’s Inn & Coffee Shop in the 1940s when it operated as a sort of B&B. When we bought the house, the Coffee Shop part of the building was severely water damaged & we are in the process of fixing it up. We’ve made a lot of progress towards making it livable, but we have a long way to go. The front half (which would have been the dining area) has drywall, but the back half (which would have been the kitchen) is still stripped down to the studs.

Ultimately, I want the Coffee Shop section of the building to pay tribute to what it used to be in the 1940s. I want to bring in some 40s style while still making the space mine. Most importantly, I want to have fun with the space. I’ve been collecting old photos and artifacts that are relevant to the history of the house because I want to have a little historical gallery wall. I still haven’t decided what to do with the space as a whole. It could be an office, kids play room, and/or guest room.

As for the Traveler’s Inn portion of the house… the bathrooms are a lovely retro pink & yellow, we’ve put a third bathroom addition on the house that is a complete blank slate at this point, we’re still finishing our kitchen remodel, I haven’t even started on the laundry room or dining room, and the family room is always a mess… goodness. I could keep going, but let’s just say that it’s a DIY & redecorating playground.

I am a great admirer of your style and work and I would LOVE to have your help to finish at least one room in my home.

I love the opportunity to serve others and what fun to get to be blessing to someone while helping do something I whole heartedly enjoy. I’m crazy about creating a home for my family and enjoy helping friends in their homes as well. I’m amazed at what a coat of paint can do, on a wall or a piece of furniture. So I’d be thrilled to have the opportunity to pitch in and be on a team with you two. I love your style and have always thought it would be so much fun to meet you. I was hoping to stop in when y’all were in Savannah last year redoing the house there. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll have the chance yet. I live in Rock Hill, SC just south of Charlotte, NC so should you be doing a project in the area, I’d count it an honor to join you and lend a helping hand!

I live in Rochester, NY! And I would love to have y’all come redo anything you want to! My husband and I are fledgling DIY-ists… so I don’t know how much we would help but we’d be eager to try!

Oh yeah, we would tickled pink(or any color) to help!

My mom is super talented and has made anything from western pearl snap shirts (back in the 70s) for my dad-a rancher, to painting large murals in salons. I can do a little bit of everthing (sewing, painting, refinishing and put lots of love into it). I also dig finding vintage treasures. We can send pictures of our work your way!

    Count these two gals in!!!!

I would love to have you work on a room (or ten!) in my house. We have a newer home, but are trying to make it look more quaint, homey instead of boring and just like every other house in the ‘hood! We live in Pennsylvania.

    Hi Layla and Kevin
We would love any help with our house. We have been saving and saving and saving to update our kitchen and family room area. We are pretty handy and would love your help. I was born in Mankato, Minnesota and my grandparents lived in Wells, MN on a farm just like you Layla. We can talk Minnesotian and have fun decorating. We would love for you to come to Indianapolis, Indiana USA.

I live in the Tampa, Florida area in a house built in 1978. Believe me, it needs lots of work. Anything you could do would be greatly appreciated. The kitchen and bathrooms need to be re-done and all the other rooms could use some attention as well…especially the great room.

How cool are you two? !!! What a great post to read tonight! While I like to think of myself as a DIY’er or better yet a DIY hopeful, I would welcome you to the tiniest state, Rhode Island. I can’t say my house is a mess or is in need of a serious overhaul it just needs some touches…it is well maintained but nothing extraordinary. It is an 80’s raised ranch on a scenic piece of property. Yup, still some 80’s leftovers here with our lighting and bathroom! But, it is cozy and we call it home!! Good luck on this new endeavor!!!

Yes Yes Yes – would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have you guys stop in at our little cottage here on the Cape – Cape Cod that is!

I think having you two doing house-calls would be spectacular! Also, I can paint a pretty awesome nursery tree. Just sayin’ 😛

I live in Nashville, TN with my husband, who happens to be afraid of color and in particular, the color gray. I moved into the house he bought with his ex-wife and I’m struggling to make it my own while pleasing him too. I’ve lived here for two years and I have yet to hang a single thing on the wall. Being an indecisive print designer combined with my husband’s austere taste in home decor, I sometimes feel like a guest in our house and very transitional about our living spaces.

On the other hand, I get a big kick out of repainting furniture. Your blog is an inspiration and I read daily!

Ummmm, yeah. You can totally come to my house and work your magic! We are in serious need of help in our kitchen – we already replace cabinets and counter tops, but it still feels so dark in there! Help! We live in Durham, NC and would love to have you and Kevin crash!

How exciting! We would LOVE for you guys to come help us update the 1920’s foreclosure farm house we bought last year. Great bones, hardwood floors, but the entire house hadn’t been updated since the 70’s – 80’s – definitely in need of some love! We also have a huge front porch and 1/2 acre of weedy lawn that is a blank slate for some makeover magic. 🙂
      We are in Tacoma, WA.

OOOH, OOOOH!!! PICK ME! WE NEED YOUR HELP! I’m a long time follower of your blog and I love you guys!
I’m also a fellow adoption supporter! The new additions to our family, two teenage brothers, will be moving in this summer. I need help in turning our living room into a functional space for family time with two big boys and all of the new friends they will be making! I don’t know where to begin but know that you all could help!
    Thanks, Gisselle 🙂

Yes! We live in Mobile, AL in a home that was built in 1914. We’ve redone 2/3’s of the house, but have gotten bogged down and haven’t started either bathroom or the kitchen. We also have an AMAZING attic space that runs the length and width of the house with a true staircase that is BEGGING to be turned into something useful.

My husband has done all the work on the house himself so far and has worked in construction, so he’d definitely help out. I can sew some and am great at running errands and making lunch!

We just built our dream house. It’s what I call southern craftsman. We have the nuts and bolts – good paint color, furniture basics, but it REALLY needs some jazzing up. I’m kind of scared to do anything because I don’t want to mess up my baby. I’d love for you to come in and give our house our personality. We’re in Fayetteville, AR. Maybe I’ll have my porch swing up by the time you come.

Could I nominate my mom? She lives in Tallassee, AL (close to y’all!), and really could use some design help. After many years of saving and sacrifice, she and my dad built the house themselves. They did it as they had the money, and it took 5 years! They’ve been in it for 4 years, and though it is a FAR CRY from the home they used to live in, my mom could use some help with the unique living room layout. She’s not thrilled with the color she chose for the living room, and it also just isn’t “finished.” My mom is a special lady (also losing 100+ lbs. in the last 1 1/2 year!), and she is my best friend 🙂

I SO enjoy reading your blog, and it gives me a little shot of home (I live in Iowa now!) when I read it. I have loved everything I’ve seen you do! 🙂
