Calling All E-Friends

May 5, 2011 By Layla

Greetings!

We have some exciting news to share today!  We’ve been working on something “design TV-related” for a while now, and we’re really excited about the direction it’s moving in.
Think:
our blog in 3D…meaning, low-dough/high-smile room redos, real-life DIY adventures, and lots of YOU!

At this point, we need to see if you’d be into A) having us over to help you redo a room or two (or three!), and/or B) helping us redo someone’s elses space(s). (Maybe you’re a mural artist, or a seamstress, or you’d just like to lend a helping hand by painting a wall or working on a craft project with us, etc.)

We also need to know what area you live in. (City/State/Country)  (You can live anywhere, and every comment will be read!)

We hoping to round up as many responses as we can in the next 48 hours, so if you’re interested, and you have time to leave a comment, please do!

We’re working with some super-talented and creative folks and they’re very interested in seeing the response to this post, so please don’t be shy, and thank you so much! We’ll definitely keep you posted and we hope to hug you soon!

PS- We’d also like to invite you to join us on Facebook & Twitter!

(We’re seeking responses on those sites too! Thank You!)

I should add that I’m a former TV news anchor (not nearly as pretty as Layla, though!)and my husband is a current TV News producer, so we get (and love) the whole TV thing. It would be a blast to do something creative!

Ohhhh, the joy it would bring to me if you would choose me!!! I am a stay-at-home mom of four awesome little boys ages 8, 6, 5, and almost two. My house has been super formal in style…mainly because that is the style of all the hand-me-downs we have lovingly been given over the years. I am trying to casualize (ha ha, my own word there) things and make it a really comfortable and welcoming place for my biggo family..did I mention I have FOUR boys?? So, my friend is helping me to transform my family room (would love to brag on her to you). I would love your help on my dining room/ office space. It is formal, dark, and not a place a kid wants to have a meal. I want it to to be a place we all look forward to using…not the formal “mom room” that never gets touched. It must be a place that “pretty” meets up with “four boys functional”. Get me?
I live in Nolensville, TN…about 30 minutes south of Nashville. Get your cowboy boots on and come visit me! We will smother you with little boy hospitality. That means, you can share the legos 🙂

Oh Kev and Layla, you can have your way with our 1986 home. We’ve done some updating but many rooms are stuck in the 80s, including our master suite. People walk into our house and say, “cool house!” partly ’cause it’s not your typical cookie-cutter Florida pool home. My response is always, “well, it’s got a lot of potential”! Nine years later, it’s still got “a lot of potential”…please come help!!! We’re in Sarasota…15 minutes from Siesta Key Beach…

Option A) ABSOLUTELY! I have a room or two that could use some fresh design talent/help. ( My DH and I are pretty handy do-it-ourselfers with two darling girls and one handsome little man.)

Option B) I am game for that as well! I’m not as talented as you two are, but I can hold my own with most things from glue guns to nail guns, and a whole lot in between!

    Call me! 😉

How exciting! If your adventure brings you to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I would love to be a part of it. I’m a veteran crafter and expert seamstress. I have made very single item in our home — every slipcover, tablecloth, pillow, drapery and custom lampshade. I paint, refinish, and dig in the garden, too! Would love to meet y’all and help out.

oh.my.golly – YES to option A, and you wouldn’t want me for Option B! 😉 I have 2 little ones, 3 year old Evelyn and 6 month old Isaac and a husband who has a recently hurt back and so our re-doing abilities and time have disappeared. I’m too tired to think of anything to do to spruce up anything. Our bedroom has been completely ignored since we moved into our house 4 years ago. Also, our basement is long and narrow and awful. Major re-dos necessary, stat. We live in Spring Lake Park, MN (about 20 minutes from Minneapolis/St. Paul)

We’re a military family outside of Wilmington, NC. I’d love to redo my bedroom that I have done very little with since moving here two years ago, turn an upstairs office into a homeschool room and then maybe pizazz up a few other spaces! Come on down and I’ll introduce you to lots of military families who would love a room do over!

Would love to host you just north of Seattle, Washington in an area called Lake Forest Park. We’ve got a few rooms in our 1916 farmhouse that could definitely benefit from your creativeness! Think: upstairs built into an attic space. Fun, right?

Also – I’d love to help paint or do some outside garden work if you come this way.

Oooo! My honey and I would love to have some more “TLC” in our home.

We live in Tucson, Arizona, located in the Hedrick Acres neighborhood about ten minutes away from The University of Arizona.

Our home was built in the early 40’s, has oodles of charm, but the inside is pretty plain jane. We have a lot of small awkward spaces that we’d like to make more functional and fun for us. We’re a young couple at the ripe old age of 26, and are anxious to personalize and make our house more home-y, if ya know what I’m sayin!

Good luck with your search, and Tucson’s a WONDERFUL place to visit!

Would love for some inspiration and perspiration and TLC for our family room/kitchen! We just got a lovely new maple farm table and the rest of the decor needs to live up to it’s standard. 🙂 My hubbie started his own company a year ago, so the low-dough part is music to my ears!

We’re in the Indianapolis area. 😀

I think that would be great!! I would LOVE your help. I recently purchased my first home! (I’ve been renting)..I am a nurse and I live in Summerville, Georgia. The house is a newer ranch style home with lots of “builder quality” charm! 😉 My living & kitchen area is an open floor plan in desperate need of some sort of plan! I have lots of ideas…I’m just not quite as good as you guys when it comes to applying them….HELP! 🙂

Boy howdy, I would LOVE you two to help me in my house. It is currentely a box of boring; no architectural interest, no special finishes, just a lot of blank beige walls. My front froom is especially dire, it’s a big room with an open ceiling that goes to the second floor. The only thing in there is one sofa and vertical blinds! VERTICAL BLINDS! Abomination! It’s the first thing people see when they visit and they usually ask if we’re moving. I live in west Phoenix and would show you a good time! 🙂 Does the smiley face sweeten the deal?

I would love both options! I just found your website about a week ago and I love it. You house is wonderful. Your transom article has me looking at my hallway in a new way. I live in a 1950s ranch with a 1970s kitchen. I would love to replace the cabinets, take out the soffit, open the wall to the dinning room. It could go from yuck to fabulous. I’m in Lake Placid, NY, site of two winter Olympics, including the 1980 Miracle on Ice hockey game. We can create a miracle in my kitchen, or the guest room, or any other room. I love crafts and can sew. I have a BFA in design (graphic and interior).

This is like Christmas morning!! I think a nice trip to Southern California is in the works…some sunny beach time, some re-do time…sounds good! 🙂 You can help me with my fledging entry/dining/living room all-in-one special, OR my mom has some awesome rooms that need re-doing!! Living room, master bedroom…

I hope this works out! I will definitely tune it to watch it!

    Hi! I’m a home decor shop owner in the making (working on my fab business plan as we speak;
think beach-y, romantic, coastal cottage, french-y, and vintage-modern kind of shop!!) SO EXCITED!!

I would love a helping hand with my new little space, a cozy one bedroom apartment with hardwood floors throughout, large windows with white crown molding, and a super vintage-y little stove that makes my kitchen just the cutest. Think “The Holiday” English cottage potential here. That is my vision 🙂

I love baking and entertaining small intimate groups of friends. I am dying to have a chandelier in my kitchen to add a little glamour to my vintage. I would like my kitchen table to be one of the focal points. Old, old, old. I have been on the hunt for a table that reminds me of my Grandma’s kitchen. She is my inspiration, and who I owe my creativity and passion for all things home-made to. I am forever trying to evoke the sense of hominess her home had. I want to remember her with every pie crust I roll on that table.

As far as the rest of the apartment, let’s blend old with new, glamour and a little bit of lived in, comfy and homey. I am a firm believer in live with what you love 🙂

I am so happy for you, Kevin and Layla. Good things happen to good people. Your marriage is also a huge “hope” and inspiration to me. So, thank you for living out yourhopes and dreams 🙂

By the way, I am from Madison, WI.

    Thank You!!

This is our hometown we will be moving back to later this month. We are wanting to buy on older home to remodel and we’re looking at a 1950’s one right now. We would LOVE to have your help! You are welcome to any and all rooms. Especially the master, family room and kitchen.

    Hi Layla and Kevin,

What an exciting adventure for you both! I’d love to have you here in Buffalo, NY and my attic, both bathrooms and dining room need umm, well, total makeovers! Our home is 111 years old, a Colonial. Oh and the back yard needs help too 🙂

And I’d love to help if you are in the Western New York area: Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca, or even Southern Ontario, etc. I can paint, redo furniture, make lemonade for the crew, whatever!

I know of a few other bloggers here too so I can gather some helpers! Thanks for the consideration.

We live in Temple Texas which is just north of Austin. We have a ranch home with lots of work needed! We have a pink tile bath we tried to paint over and now it looks worse! (we had to take the risk right?!) We have a wall we want to tear down between the living and formal living space to make it one big space. We have concrete floors because we have already pulled up the carpet in hopes of doing something more. We also have a kitchen in serious need of redoing. think peeling paint and sticky tile countertops! Aack! Come help us!! My husband is a school technologist and I’m a stay at home homeschooling mom to 4, age 7, 5, 2 and 9 months. As you can see we have our hands full!!

Hi you two. I love your blog. And, we have a house that we’ve been trying to redo. Slowly. It’s a unique house…with a 3 story curtain wall window that you look through when you walk in the front door. We’d love it if you could come help us make a few of our rooms a little…cuter.

    We live in Rochester, MN.

p.s. And we could help out with other houses too. I’m not an artist…but I can run a sewing machine. 😉

I would LOVE some help updating the home I GREW UP IN, into the home I NOW live in with my husband and three kids! We are eager DIYers but have lost some of our original vigor to keep the updating going. My parents now live three miles down the road, and they would get a kick out of watching you work your magic on their beloved home. Plus, it’s finally done snowing in MN! So, come on “up north!” I’ll have the coffee and cinnamon rolls ready!

Oh my goodness! How exciting! Yes! My husband and I just built a farmhouse out in the country (208 acres) and we’ve been slooooowly decorating in the things we love. Needless to say…it’s very slow with a low to no budget for decorating we have to be creative, but thank goodness we love to antique and repurpose. It helps that I can sew, paint, staple, hammer, reupholster, duct tape 🙂 or glue whatever needs to be done. We live in a small rural town in central Missouri.

Hey guys! First off, I adore your blog! I check it out daily!

Secondly, my husband and I would LOVE to have some help with the rooms in our home. We bought it almost 2 years and I still don’t feel like anything is finished. We’re big DIYers on a budget but projects keep piling up and I don’t think we’ll ever get it all done. To add another layer to the chaos we just found out a couple months ago that we’re pregnant with our first kiddo. Not planned at all but we feel so blessed! He/She is due on December 1st and the stress of unfinished projects along with now decorating a nursery is really starting to add up. I love your style and even though I’ve been trying to replicate what you do for some time now, I’m still missing the mark. Your help is definitely needed!

Some info about us… We live in a 3/2 home in Temple, TX. We’re in our 20s, have two dogs, an English Mastiff named Woodrow and a boxer mix named Maggie. He’s an RN and I’m in accounting. Oh, and he’s tired of hearing me whine about things being unfinished. 🙂 Please help! I’m so excited to see what you two come up with, even if we don’t get picked. Thanks guys!

    Layla and Kevin,
You have no idea how much I love your blog and design style. I feel like I am home when I read your online magazines. I study them 😉 My husband and I both work full time, I am going back to school for my Masters, and we have two kids, daughter Jordan who is 4 and son Jonah who is 3 – leaving no time – or money – to decorate the way I see my house in my dreams. We live in Cranston, RI. My husband replaced all the carpeting in the house with hardwoods – but that is as far as we have gotten and I literally dream myself to sleep each night thinking about ideas from your blog – the drop cloth drapes and the fabulous gym floor wall etc. but just have not had the time. We would totally FLIP if you guys came here in person and we could do a project together – FLIP I say ;-). I am a good cook – I will feed you well 😉

Would really dig your help. I am in Beaufort SC, the Low country, that I know you are familar with since you were @ Tybee. I have 30 year old Lowcountry home. That could use some sprucing up.

    Hi Layla!

Congratulations on the opportunity! How exciting!

You and Kevin can come to my house any time! I don’t know if you remember, but you did a virtual redo of my living room about a year and a half ago. I hope to show you pictures of how it turned out in real life!

If I’m as lucky as you two are, I would be happy to see how you “see” the rest of our home. We have an open concept home, so I think it would be cool to make the rooms flow well. I live in a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana.

    Good luck and best wishes!
