“Don’t call it a dream. Call it a plan.”

I always tell people I’m “allergic to the p-word”. I tell them “plans give me hives” and that “spontaneity is my spirit animal”. Even when it comes to goals and dreams- I’ve always felt like I’m just wired to wing it. Plans feel so definitive…and definitive feels so…boxy-in-y. (Did I mention I’m claustrophobic, too?)
But then I saw the quote above and it stopped me dead in my plan-phobic tracks. Y’all! Isn’t that such a fun perspective on the p-word!? Plan is our wild & wonderful Dream on the move! It’s still Dream, but with her new name, Plan wants to RUN. In an *actual* direction. Can’t you just see her? Racing toward Accomplishment…the sun on her face and the wind in her hair? 😀
What do you think fellow free-spirited friends? Wanna start calling your dream by a different name with me today?
Julia
We are kindred sisters! I love winging it and am very claustrophobic! Today my dream has a different name and I’m going at it full steam ahead!

So it’s my plans that fail, not my dreams? If either worked I’d have been to Sicily and Italy, painted the entire inside of my house, torn up the 40 yr old carpet (yes, Ugh!), installed wood floors, gotten the proper size AC unit from a company I won’t name here, bought new insulated windows when I had the cash, and bought a pickup instead of a Subaru. etc…… ad nauseum.
I planned all spring to eradicate a pesky invasive weed (flower? LOL) in the yard …really super planned the job for yesterday……but now it’s today and the weed spreads so fast I might never get it under control short of a forest fire doing the job. I’m not likely to get the weed killer working today, either. Actually, it’s the thought of weed killer filtering down into my water well that has stopped this dream/plan, but now, I have to just buy drinking water and get my you-know-what in gear to do the planned war on the weed.Or my neighbors will hate me when this evil plant arrives in their yards.
Thanks for trying to make me feel better……..(sigh)

A friend of mine hired a “goat rental”. Did the trick. We live in country too – I feel your pain

I enjoy the name plan, a dream is the beginning, the first step. But plan is the journey and involves steps to reach that dream.

That’s great! I love that Plan wants to run in an actual direction. Very well said!

You and Kevin are a perfect example of this! Your dream to adopt a child turned into a plan for Sonny to become part of your family! Keep the faith – hoping that today is the day you hear he will soon be in his own room!

Sometimes dreams are all you need. Some dreams need a plan to be fulfilled, but I’m a dreamer and hope I never stop. That’s just who I am. Love everyone’s take on it

I like that you can call it a dream or a plan but either way, it’s you taking control and making things happen. I esp loved the “Racing toward accomplishment…the sun on her face and the wind in her hair.” That’s me this morning. I *think* I’ve finally answered the age old question of “What do you want to be when you grow up” and took a chance this morning. I’m excited and scared but that description of “plan” is what I see as myself this morning. For the first time, my dream has a face and my plan has a name. Thank you God for your divine grace and patience and thank you Layla for being an inspiration!
