Six Interior Photos That Stopped Me In My Tracks

Jul 26, 2016 By Layla

Hello! Each Wednesday I share some of the photos that stopped me in my tracks while I was scrolling Instagram the previous week. Here are this week’s pics!

1. @BurnhamDesign:

Burnham Design on Instagram | Coastal Kitchen

The color of the island, the super cool cabinetry, the portholes and light-up anchor! Swoon!

2. @LeeIndustries:

Kate Marker Interiors | Migration Blue | Lee Industries | Fabric |

Not only am I smitten with the pattern on that fabric- I also love the name of it: Migration Blue. Isn’t that sweet?

3. @Susana.Chango:

Is that the cutest little town holder you ever did see, or what? 😀

4. @AnnekeMcConnell:

I really just wanted to show this one to Kevin’s mom because she’s thinking about stacking her microwave and wall oven too.  😉 (And here’s a link to Anneke’s post about the whole kitchen if you’d like to check it out: Kitchen Makeover Reveal)

5. @PaintedPlanks:

Painted Planks on Instagram | Landscape Paintings

Such a sweet collection of landscape paintings! She used them inside one of her built-in cabinets too:

Do you love collecting vintage paintings too?

PS- I’ve been tagging these round-ups on Instagram with the hashtag #InstaWednesdayRoundUp if you’d like to see them that way over there!

    Hi Layla,

Why stack the microwave and wall oven while it is so much easier to have just one appliance? I have a combi-oven in my aparment where microwave and wall oven are combined in one, so I only have one appliance and both functions work well. Ideal for in small spaces !
Already look forward to seeing the end result and getting an update on Sonny!
    Love

We have our microwave stacked above our wall oven and it works very well for us. Sometimes both are running at the same time, so I would not want one combined unit.

A stacked microwave/oven is super convenient and saves on space elsewhere in the kitchen. I really enjoyed mine. Except mine was at a more appropriate height. This one is too low, looks like a throwback to the awful ’70s. Another factor to consider is what to do if you need/want two ovens. Is it better to stack two ovens or have one in the range? Having one in the range would leave room for stacking the microwave. Or maybe the range can be big enough for two ovens? Are range ovens preferable over wall ovens?

      Hi Joe!

I’m no kitchen expert (especially when it comes to cooking- ha!) so I’m not sure about what the best place for appliances is. I guess it’s up to each individual homeowner to determine what works best for them?

Thanks so much for the feature Layla! That kitchen makeover process had so many lessons learned – I hope it helps people avoid the mistakes I made when I started painting the cabinets. We LOVE the end result! xoxo

I have been looking and looking for the “right” sized towel holder for the ends of my island too and they are all either too short or too long. . .this is ingenious!!! Thanks for sharing — love your inspiration!

Love the nautical kitchen! And that fabric on those chairs ( Migration Blue) – really cute.
I’ve seen rope towel holders before, and always wondered if the fibers from the rope would be shedding onto the towel or floor? Have to say it’s a cute look ‘tho!

Regarding your mattress – does it hold body heat? I have issues with night sweats, and have heard that the newer type mattresses are not good for things like that. I truly wish they could come up with an air conditioned one, that worked like the sleep number beds! 😉

Hi Layla — Just a comment on microwave location. My 62 yr-old Special Needs brother lives with us. He is mobile/able to walk and he uses the microwave. Because he has some CP issues, his hands are unsteady. Solely because of this reason, we use an old-fashioned countertop microwave. With Dad Palmer moving in, you may want to plan on having a (second) countertop unit available for use! From our family’s experience, the countertop location seems safer for both elders and youngsters using the microwave. Burns are no fun. So happy to see everything coming together, in God’s time! – Marilyn
