“That’s what I love about reading: one tiny thing will interest you in a book, and that tiny thing will lead you to another book, and another bit there will lead you onto a third book. It’s geometrically progressive – all with no end in sight, and for no other reason than sheer enjoyment.”
―Mary Ann Shaffer, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Do y’all listen to Jamie Ivey’s The Happy Hour podcast? I’m new to the podcast game, but I sure have enjoyed listening to hers (and Young House Love’s!) lately. She always asks her guests what they’re reading at the very end of each episode, and this past week, a book called The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was mentioned. I just got a copy of it today, and I’m so excited to see what all the gushing is about! Have you read it?
I love her podcast! 🙂 I remember enjoying that book. Hope you do too!
I LOVED that book! It’s one of my all-time favorites. I recommended it to my mom and she didn’t care for it. Maybe it was the letter format? I don’t know, but I hope you love it as much as I did. It made me want to visit Guernsey one day.
I really loved that book too! What I love about books is how they stimulate your thoughts long after you’ve read them. Shortly after becoming a Director of Nursing for a nursing home, I read Nicholas Sparks’ book “The Notebook” and it had such an impression on me and changed how I interacted with older adults. I always liked them but this book taught me to interact with them as competent adults who needed help in a vulnerable time. I came to love that type of nursing and learned that nursing homes don’t have to be dismal places where everyone is depressed! My residents were still so full of life and I loved my time with them!
The book “Out of My Mind” did that for me as a teacher!
I enjoyed that book very much! I think the characters are so genuine. I’ve had a couple other books recommended to me that were supposed to be like it, but none of them came even close. I think part of that is the setting. My grandfather was a WWII veteran and I tend to be drawn to books set in that time. I think it is good for us to be reminded what suffering people endured and how they got through it. It also made me want to visit Guernsey. =)
I loved that book! I’m going to have to get it out and read it again!
Enjoy!
I have a private FB group, called “Book Buzz” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1733579290225814/) where we share what we are reading. If anyone would like to join, please put a note that you saw this at TLC (Layla, would love for you to join!) so I know whom I’m “friending”. It’s meant to be a place that you can browse through to see “real people comments” and maybe find some new books/authors to explore!
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a beautiful book, full of amazing characters, beautiful English landscape and haunting history that I was not aware occurred until I read the book. It is a true gem, leaving you with a yearning to visit Guernsey. 🙂
Loved that book!
I read almost anything, but have not delved in to Hunger Games, Harry Potter and the most popular stuff. I just browse the library until something catches my eye. But I am partial to the classics and settings between 1900-1960.
I loved that book as well. I was really glad to see that your post was about actual reading of a real book, and not just decorating with books because their color matches. 🙂
The book title initially had me but the content inside kept me. Loved the book.
I enjoyed that book too!
I have not read the book yet,I am reading at present Assimilate or go Home recommended by a blogger.I would like to join the Book Bub? but I mostly read Thrillers so not appropriate.I like the sound of THE Notebook so will pick it up later.
