Our Front Porch

Oct 26, 2012 By Layla

I walked out the front door yesterday and it hit me. I haven’t blogged about one of my favorite parts of this house yet- the front porch! From it, we can see the lake at the end of our street, and I don’t think we’ll ever get tired of looking in that direction.

We only have to climb a couple of stairs to come in and out of our back door (I’ll blog about the back side of the house next week), but the trek up to the front porch is a little more…uh…thigh muscle burn-y. Lots of steps…fourteen to be exact…but I do love how high up the porch sits off the sidewalk.

The porch itself is a little chippy and overgrown right now…

…and it was somewhat challenging to photograph it from every angle…

…but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

We have a large front porch as well and I absolutely love it! All those stairs might scare off the girl scouts and magazine sellers. LOL

Good point, Amy! Maybe I should make a “Please come to the back door- there are less stairs” sign for the Girl Scouts. 😉 #LoveThoseCookies!

Nah! On second thought, Girl Scouts are determined and tough. They’ll tackle those steps with no problem!

We walked down there this afternoon and sat on the grass and just stared at it. #Captivating!

A house with a porch is already half way to being a home, in my opinion! I miss my wrap around porch in NC…somehow, I’m going to get a porch on my home here in MA…like you say, “where there’s a will”! 😉
I’m so excited to see the upcoming changes you make! I’ve never checked any website for updates the way I’ve been checking TLC the past week or so, since you moved!! 🙂

I was walking in a new (to me) area of town, saw a house that was all teal (down to the stone foundation) except for the actual boards of the porch… and thought of you and your brown house. Crazy colors are relatively common on the old triple-deckers that make up most of the Boston suburbs (especially the area I was in) but I can honestly say I’ve never seen an all-teal house before.

It is so charming with loads of character. That is a fabulous porch. I really love the front door. By the way…I finally stepped into the real world of photography today & purchased my first Canon dlsr. I’m a big kid now! Can’t wait to sign up for a Shoot Fly Shoot class soon:)

I am thankful the two of you are so enamoured with your new home – it is really uplifting to read about your new discoveries.

Besides, that porch is quite awesome, vines & chipped paint and all!

I absolutely LOVE the red brick steps – I have loved these since seeing similar ones on a home during our only trip to Merritt Island, Florida. We are about to undertake a large home reno ourselves, and I’m planning on adding red brick steps (hubby….be forewarned!)

Can’t wait for more posts on your new place…

LAYLA you are simply adorable. That IS the best pic of you sitting in the window getting a picture…priceless:) OK I am SO so so loving all your posts of your new home. I gotta say it has such GOOD good bones, you can totally see that. The brick work leading up to your high porch is amazing in itself. You just DO not see that kind of quality all to often! AND there is absolutley nothing like a awesome front porch! Thank you again for the awesome posts…and looking forward to many more! Happy Weekend to you both!

Layla/Kevin, I really like the color of your house now it looks “warm and friendly” but at the same time I can certainly understand you’d like to make it your own, with your choices. Can’t wait for more pictures to come.
Have fun creating your dream. 🙂

What a great porch, and with such awesome potential! Can’t wait to see how you transform it. Now on to the most important detail of your photos. Your wearing shorts and it’s almost Halloween. Soooooo jealous. Here in Southern Alberta (Western Canada) we are in the depths of winter already, foot of snow below 0 celcius. Enjoy that great weather! Look forward to further posts, your blog is one of my favorites!

Oh, I adore your house!!! How lovely it all looks, and quiet and cute. Love at first sight… 🙂 My dream is to live in a house that has such a cute front porch as yours. Someday.
Too bad you can’t find those houses in Belgium… Maybe my husband and I have to build one that has such a cute front porch as yours. 😉 Thanks for sharing!!

i LOVE your new porch! it has so much character. i have always been a fan of big old porches, they are so soothing to me! 🙂 glad you are enjoying every aspect of your new house! have a great weekend!

I love your new front porch. It’s nice and big like those on old houses. So often on new houses the porches are just there for effect, and are uncomfortably narrow. I’m looking forward to all the future posts as your new house gets made over in your style….I am so tired of the oatmeal and pecan model home styling in fashion these days.

I picture a porch swing out there, with white wicker chairs, soft, worn, comfy pillows and a tall glass of lemonade on a summers day. (or maybe some cocoa when it gets colder!) I absolutely adore your new house! 🙂

Love your porch – your house is just charming!

I’m sure that if I was sitting on a windowsill to take a picture, I would manage to fall out – you’re much braver (or less clumsy!) than I am.

I hope you have a wonderful week – I can’t wait to see more pictures of your house!
