Remember when I put together that inspiration photo-drawing of our living room in December?
And remember when we got “bones” in February?
Well, as of today, we’ve got planks on one side of the new partition wall too! 😀
(No crown yet because we’re having a hard time finding it.)
Here’s a pulled-back view from the same spot in the kitchen:
(Front door on the left, back door on the right.)
Here are a couple of more photos I took before the base molding and plinth blocks were installed:
(Ignore our still-almond switches & switch plate, and still-not-reupholstered dining chairs!)
(Still haven’t started working on that gallery wall above the sofa either!)
We’ll clad and trim out the other side of the wall in May. In the meantime, we’ll fill nail holes, and prime, and paint. (Simply White, like the other planked wall.) I’ll be thinking about adding (hardwired) sconces to the dining room side of the wall, too. Hey, might as well while the walls are still open, right?
Boy wouldn’t a pair of these Starfire Radial sconces sure be fun?! 😀
I thought these Fargo lights were gorgeous too:
I love the mix of black and galvanized metal, and that little cage on the bottom is such a neat touch!
I also like these galvanized lanterns I saw at Home Depot:
I think they were around $25 each, which is great.
The new side walls are four feet wide, so I’ll be thinking about which sconce is the right fit width-wise. And since they’ll be seen from the front a lot (vs. the side, like in the photos above) I’ll also be thinking about that view too.
Fun stuff to dream about, for sure!
Looks great!!
Did you leave spaces between the planks? We are putting up a wall right now as well, that we would like to plank. We were wondering if we had to drywall first?? What will happen to those spaces? I can’t seem to find anywhere (but here!) that there wasn’t a wall already existing before they planked. Would be curious to know your thoughts.
Thx.
Very exciting. I love all the sconce choices.
Wow! I love it. I even like the wood tones on the wall (I know it’s not staying, but it plays nicely with the fireplace.) It feels like the picture that never ends (like when two mirrors are across from each other.
Layla — love your space planning guide. What software program do you use?
Love it! I know you want to paint but think it would be stunning with a finish that looks like driftwood where you can see some of the wood grain.
oh those starfire radial sconces are fantastic! wow.
love how the wall is coming together. great vision you have!
happy, happy easter, layla. may you and kevin continue to be blessed.
Love the planked wall! All your rooms are so fresh and simply classic! Can you tell me the details of the planks (where you get them and what kind they are) ?
Looks very pretty.. More room for art work and special touches.. For real privacy it would be cool with a sliding barn door.. Enjoy your posts…
Looks Great! If you can’t find matching crown, I saw an article that might help. It was on re-creating victorian trim. They made a mold of a section of the trim and when the mold was hard they traced the profile on to paper to create a pattern. This was given to a woodworker to mill new trim. (Fine Homebuilding Dec. 2001 / Jan. 2002). Another thought is is you have this same crown in another room… maybe your Master bedroom, remove it to use for this wall and replace with a new crown.
Looks great!! I saw a great post on Pinterest where they made shelves on the lower half which would look fabulous!
You didn’t ask for our opinions BUT I have to say that the green ruffled light is beyond cute. It’s industrial looking but has that little bit of flare that makes my heart sing. I vote for that one!
The wall looks great – you’re going to love decorating it all now.
Very nice! And I too like the green ruffled light. As for your gallery wall, I know you are waiting to put all those pictures of you, Kevin and Sweet P. Happy Easter to you Layla!
3rd vote for the “ruffled” lights!!
Sconces, yes! A no-brainer! Can’t wait to see which you pick. xo
It is looking so great! Definitely add the sconces. I can’t wait to see which ones y’all choose.
Love the walls and for sure sconces. I’m pretty tired of all the wide open houses.
Am I the only one that sees a new wonder wall as is?! I think you’re already done! haha
Super gorgeous, Layla! The woodwork is fantastic!
Love watching it take shape! I love the second set of lights… Although I wish they were that gorgeous green instead of black! Lets just marry the two shall we? I can’t wait for may to get here so it’s all finished… Why are we waiting so long!! Love it anyways!
Looks great! Love the sconce ideas too.
Gorgeous, as always! I really like the Fargo light and the one from Home Depot. Can’t wait to see what goes up, tho! 🙂
Oh Layla! You and your hubby always inspire me! I love everything you guys do – your photography, your designs, your writing and most of all – your love for Sweet P! Thank you for making me smile (and sometimes cry)!
Have you thought about shelves on the LR side? They wouldn’t be very deep. Didn’t you have something similar in your other house? In the dining room?
It’s coming along so well Layla! I love that it just draws your eye to the back. I can’t wait to see how it finishes. You’re taking your time with this house but the quality is just top notch!
It’s simply gorgeous Layla! I love, love your style 🙂
Lookin’ good!! Have you thought about leaving the back of the walls open in the living room and putting in shelves like you did in the dining room of your old house? That might be cool. 🙂 I just finished re-watching the Shoot FLY Shoot Photography classes, and part of one was in that room, so it’s fresh on my mind. 😉
I know I’m probably the only one that thinks this, but I love the unfinished wood. I would be really tempted to leave it like it is and not paint it. I love the way it looks with your bar stools. And the pattern in the wood is just cool. Maybe I’m just weird.
You’re not weird, Laurie! 😀 We’re going to paint it Simply White so that it’s the same color as the other walls and looks like it’s always been here, but natural wood can be a fun tone too! XO
Layla, have you seen this light fixture from The Wood Grain Cottage? I just love it and am trying to figure out how to incorporate it in my house.

It’s SO cute, Pam! 😀 What a creative idea!
Looks awesome so far! Can’t wait to see if painted and finished 🙂 Those wall sconces are to cute I love the first one!

I like that you can still see the tv from the kitchen. Love how it’s still open…but not OPEN.
