I couldn’t stop at the sign, y’all.
I *had* to hang something on the wall by the pantry, too.
I mean, didn’t it just *need* a 165-year-old french door from New Orleans-turned-wall mirror, adorned with a live boxwood wreath??
I thought so, too. 😉
PS- I picked up the door at a local flea market on Tuesday ($135) and had a local glass company cut and install the 12 little panes of mirrored glass on Wednesday ($5/each). I had to leave the house for this project, but man do I love it when a ginormous statement piece comes together affordably and lightning fast, don’t you? 😀
This piece couldn’t match any more perfect for this space! Your kitchen is adorable with so much charm. Nice to see a new fresh kitchen with character & not the ‘typical’ new kitchen! Perfection! 🙂

Beautiful!
That is AMAZING! I’ve never seen a door like that! What a find…
That looks fantastic! I love the way it opens up the room. It certainly is a great find!!
Beautiful! Love it!
I think it’s the perfect touch, and you got a great deal. I’m not a big wreath person, but I really do love the simplicity of the boxwood wreath. Such a classic look!
Your style is so fresh!
I’m a fan.
Thank you, Kay!! And I love that you used the word “fresh”. Especially in a post about a 165-year-old door! 😀
Love love, seriously love! Looks perfect!
Love, love, love it!!!
YES! 🙂
Stunning Layla! Also, where did you get the live boxwood wreath? The combination is refreshing for this time of year. Love your style! Cheryl Ann
Thank you, Cheryl Ann! I picked up the wreath at Southern Homes & Gardens on Vaughn Rd. in Montgomery, AL. 🙂
I can’t wait to see your son’t little fingerprints dirty up this mirror. Stunning!
I love how the patina of the door picks up and carries to the other side of the room from the corbels on the island. Not by accident I’m sure
Gorgeous…it makes your beautiful home even more luminous and cheery!
Silly question – how did you hang that? Seems like it’s probably heavy. I do love it!!
Super cute, as always. I was just wondering, any update on the fridge?
Yes, it did need this!! The space looks fantastic!!! Just the greatest finishing touch!!! Love what you are doing!! Can’t wait to see it all finished!!!
im in love!
Repurposed and reloved……in love, so pretty.
Maybe your best project ever–specifically the door. Lovely. Reminds me of decorators using large mirrored windows (arched) as a headboard. You door adds depth, light, and pizzazzzzzz.
This is one of the most beautiful things you have done!
I love it!
Love it! That took a creative mind to think of making it a mirror and some follow through to do it so quickly. Impressive.
Gorgeous!!
Layla – Where did you get your shutters in the front room with the piano? I’m getting ready to order some and have a couple options but would love a recommendation if you’re happy with yours.
Thanks!
Hi Katie!
We bought them from someone on Facebook! 😀
https://theletteredcottage.net/white-shutters/
They’re not a *perfect* fit, but they’ll do until we can swap them out with plantation shutters from Home Depot someday! 🙂
Wow, do I love this! You are an amazing decorator. Love your blog.
I LOVE your blog, I can’t wait to see what you’re up too. I know you need the advertising, but the pop up ads make it really difficult to read your blog and see the great pictures. I’ve tried to use the “x” to get it to go away, but it doesn’t work.
BTW, I’m a woodworker and my garage shop as been selected to be featured in Wood magazine. We have to take the pictures, so my husband and I are taking the shootFLYshoot class. We’re really enjoying it!
Hi Bobbi!
I’ve been hearing about these pop-ups for the past couple of weeks, but I’m having a hard time figuring out where they’re coming from. My sponsor ads only sit in the sidebar and at the top of my blog, and none of them run pop-up ads, so we can’t figure out how to get rid of them. 🙁 I have yet to see them on my desktop, or laptop, but I have seen a couple of little ones (that close out very quickly) on my iPhone. (Not every time, only *sometimes*) I haven’t see the big one that doesn’t have an “X” on it. I may have to do a blog post about them because I don’t want folks to think they “belong to me”, and I could really use some advice on how to get rid of them! 😀
Congratulations on the magazine feature!!!! That is so exciting, and I hope you’ll keep me posted on when to look out for the issue!!! XO
Very chic! I love, love, love the door!
I just love it! It looks like it has always been there. Go girl!
Love the charm it brings
Layla, I just love the door. I’m doing over our guest bathroom, and was thinking about putting door with mirrors just like yours (only new). And I LOVE how it looks. So I guess I’ll have to go hunting for an old one.
The door is fabulous and love that you turned it into a mirror. Love it!
Yes, it did!!!!!!!
LOVE this!!!
Have a great weekend guys.: )
Leah
Wow Layla!
That looks great!!! I love how it compliments the corbels on your counter & reflects all that beautiful, natural light!!! Awesome idea! Couple quick questions. 1) Do you ever find something you just “have” to have, but don’t know in that moment where you’ll put it/how you’ll use it? If so, do you buy it anyway, or walk away?
2) What is a “live” boxwood wreath? Just love your sweet personality & your decor sense rocks!!
Hi Tami!
1) Yes! ALL. THE. TIME! I don’t always buy it…but when I can just *feel* that I’ll be able to use it, I go ahead and grab it! 😀
2) It’s a living wreath made out of boxwood branches. You spritz with water every few days to keep it alive. Looks like you can preserve them though too: http://craftingrebellion.blogspot.com/2012/08/preserving-boxwood.html
AH-MAZ-ING!!! Absolute love at first sight! Nice job.
Thanks so much, Nicole! XO
Just lovely!
Thank you, Dawn! 😀
So, I know that it’s not what the post is about, but I just LOVE the little bit of tile you did on the backside of the island behind the sink. It is my mostest favoritist thing in the kitchen. And it’s juuuust peeking out in the last pic of this post.
Oh, and the door is amazing, too 🙂
Awwww, thank you for loving that little “afterthought” too, Carrie! 😀 We had enough tile left over to do it, and I’m so glad we went for it!
I love it!! What local place did you get the glass cut and installed? I just bought a door at a local antique shop that has a broken pane and was wondering where I could get it done reasonable. I live here in Montgomery.
I would have cut off those panels at the bottom, but otherwise – nice!
Kevin wanted to chop it off at first too, but when I explained to him there was “NO WAY I was chopping off the COOLEST part of that 165-year-old French door from New Orleans!” and that I wanted to be *intentional* about it looking like a door (vs. a window), he quickly came to his senses. 😉 LOL!
I love doors! This looks great. I always add chicken wire so it’s a message board…I like the mirror better. Awesome!
When I saw your post yesterday, I thought you were maybe putting up a door from between your kitchen and stairs. Looks great the way you did it though.
You needed it! It’s perfect right there.
I love the the way your home is coming together! It is so inspirational.
Love it! Can you provide details on how you hung the door?
Thanks, Peg! We just used heavy duty drywall anchors and picture hangers from Home Depot! 🙂
A lot of times the project is worth the wait but we all need an instant gratification sometimes..it is lovely with the boxwood wreath.
You have a gift! I wish you would come to my house work and your magic 🙂
tremendous!
Awesome! I have a door like that in my basement! Easy to do now that I’ve seen your masterpiece!
Thanks
s
Where did you get the mirrors cut for the door? I have an antique door with a broken pane. Yours is gorgeous! Thanks so much.
Thank you! I got them cut at Best Glass in Montgomery, Terri! 🙂
Love, love, love the way your kitchen has come together! Can you share the source for the shades? Thank you!
