House Colors – Part Two

Oct 22, 2012 By Layla

We ventured out just after sun-up on Saturday, as the fog was lifting off the lake. It was the perfect morning to ride bike, and check out some of our new surroundings and colors.

Blues and greens ranged from dark & dusty to bright & brilliant…

I’ve always favored blue and green…

…especially when there’s a sliver of sunshine thrown in the mix, too.

PS- In case anyone is interested, the color scheme of the last house is:

Body- Prescott Green  (Benjamin Moore HC-140)
Trim- Simply White  (Benjamin Moore OC-117)
Skirting and Shutters- Black Forest Green  (Benjamin Moore RME-46)
Ceiling- Palladian Blue  (Benjamin Moore HC-144)
Door- ?

I wasn’t able to get any color information on the first two houses, but I’ll be sure to ask Marlin the painter the next time I see him!

What a lovely, quaint neighboor hood you have moved to …looking forwarding to keeping up with all your new re-do’s. Happy Monday.

Love the second house, but would like it better with a yellow door.

What a gorgeous neighborhood you live in, Layla! If Marlin knows any of the construction guys, could you ask him to find out the manufacturer of the two-over-two windows? 🙂

P.S.–We used Prescott Green in our half bath and we love it!

    Gorgeous pics!

Layla or Kevin, Did you ever get any paint information for the second house (dark grey-blue)? This is exactly what my husband and I are getting ready to do with our house, only we can’t find the right grey. This is perfect!! Please let me know if you find any information about it. Thank you! God bless you both.

Oh my gosh, I can’t quit looking at that lake pic! Are you going to sell prints of it? I’ve signed up for Kevin’s Shoot Fly Shoot classes, so maybe I’ll be taking pics like that soon. My husband surprised me with a DSLR camera so I could take Shoot Fly Shoot. 🙂 And I’m loving these great house pics you are posting of your neighborhood! I’m having a hard time getting my work done over here because I keep clicking over to see if you’ve posted anything new about your new house. LOL!

Apparently you have moved to Paradise (or as close as you can get this side of Heaven)! I will now have to wear a bib to read your posts, so that I can catch the drool. So lover-ly!

Green is my all-time favorite color, but the blue! That shade of blue looks so sharp against the crisp white trim. There is a house around the block in that shade of blue with a red door; they always hang a bright yellow forsythia wreath on it in the spring. It makes me want to move in!

Layla & Kevin. Is this your new neighborhood? Oh my goodness if it is I want to move there!! We’ve got to move out of our house for about 3 months for some renovations and would like to go out of state to somewhere different. We’re looking at somewhere that will stay fairly warm for the winter. I’ve always admired Southern style and am drawn to it. Maybe this is the place to go!! I am so, so happy for you! I can just feel the peace and happiness of your decision oozing from this post!

OH MY GOODNESS! What a gorgeous morning you guys had and it made for the most beautiful pictures! The fog on the lake just kills me! The cottages just say “welcome home” everytime you see them! So happy for you guys. God certainly blessed such a lovely couple!

My mom has been hunting a color scheme for their little1893 house. I think I just found it!! I LOOOVE that front door! Thanks for sharing the paint colors 🙂 If you find the yellow color, I’d really like to know too please! Congrats on the neighborhood–looks like a vacation town!

Your neighborhood is absolutely adorable! I want to move & be neighbors! Okay, so that would definitely send the hubs over the edge if I said I wanted to move across the country mid reno;) The pic of the lake is perfect with the hint of fog lifting. Is your neighborhood part of a planned sustainable community? Just curious.

Ok, so like fur real? I mean reallllly? That first picture needs, I mean begs to be enlarged and placed somewhere, somewall, someplace where everyone, everyman, everywomen, everychild, everyanimal that romes your home see’s it and just is at peace with their day, their self and that moment. Allelujah can I get an Amen!!!

Oh these are beautiful! I actually liked the tan on your new house – if you painted the trim white, but after seeing all the beauties, I can see why you would want to change it. Good luck deciding!

Your house looks lovely….with so much potential. I noticed all the roofs are metal around there. Why is that? In our neck of the woods (Canada) a metal roof is usually used in areas that receive a lot of snow.

What a fantastic place to ride by the lake! I have a thing for yellow so love that door on the last house. Best wishes deciding…

The blue skies and bright sun equals oodles of love and joy.
I love coming home and not feeling like it is yours. The moment you just drop your keys or throw your bag down for thst first moment it feels like home is the best feeling ever. Layla let me know when it happens.

Can you tell us the architect(s) of the houses in your neighborhood? We are building a new house on the family farm and think these house styles would be perfect in Tennessee as well.

Benjamin Moore has some of the best blue-greens. Others to consider are Hancock Green and Hollingsworth Green. I used Hancock Green in my dining room and Hollingsworth Green in my foyer. You can see each room easily from one another and both colors go well together. There’s no fighting between them. Hollingsworth Green has a bit more blue to it. It just depends on how it looks in the particular situation. I tried very hard to use Palladian Blue which I love, but it just didn’t work under the circumstances I had. I’ve had that happen before. I find a color I just love, but it doesn’t work either because of the lighting or other problems like furniture that fights it. I also have Wyeth Blue in my bedroom, but I didn’t like it on the body of my house. Go figure!

I love your neighborhood! (but then I’m biased, because other than the roofing materials, the houses look like the ones in my neighborhood!)

I bet you’re getting lots of inspiration for paint colors and trims from your walk!

Oh my gosh! I love it, the new house is so charming. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. PS- I wish I had that lake view…so jealous!

The moment I saw the house with the yellow door – I smiled. I smiled REAL BIG. What a happy space to walk in to!!!!!! I especially loved the piece of stained glass on the porch. But then, stained glass is one of those things I treasure. The hydrangea’s in the flowerbed just made me feel like I had “come home”.
    I love this one.

Whoopsie! I meant to mention this too, Sorry.
I have absolutely no affiliation. However, I owe 2 sets myself and I have bought sets for almost all members of my family.
Whatever home you live in, you need a beautiful sounding windchime. These are the ones I love the very best. I have had mine 10+ years and they atill are so beautiful.
Did you see the small chime at the front door of the house with the yellow door????? I did. Take a peek at the ones I love and listen to their tone. Kev will be hooked!!!!!! 🙂

Again……. I promise, I have no affiliation with the company. These are just the lovliest I have ever purchased……..and I love mine. Enjoy. (Be sure to listen to the tones of several to find the tone that is right for you.)

The “quaintness “of it reminds me of Seaside, Fl. I love it. We just bought a home on the Florida panhandle and I went with the tropical brights (Jane Coslick style). It was a hard decission to make tho. I varied between softer blues/greens to brights. I know you will make your home so cozy.

I love these homes! In Missouri it’s traditional brick, really boring homes!! There’s a few bungalows but they are rare and very over priced. Who is the builder for the homes in your neighborhood?

Welcome to our neighborhood Layla and Kevin! Imagine my surprise when I saw a picture of my front porch on your blog. So glad you like the colors. By the way, the color of the front door is Benjamin Moore’s Stuart Gold. Have been following your blog for a while, absolutely love it! Please stop by some time and say Hello!
