Meet Eli…
He recently turned 4, and his mama is the fabulous Miss Traci over at Beneath My Heart.
We love Eli, and thought it might be neat to get his opinion on kids room decor, so Traci did a little interview with him for us the other day and here’s what the cutie patootie had to say about the subject:
Traci: What do you think would make a great kids room?
Eli: Dinasers (dinosaurs) on the wall. And um, and um, tars (cars) on the bed. And tar (car) toys, and um….a baseball bat…and that’s it!
(Eli! Check out these 3D wall embellishment from Beetling.com! Pretty cool, huh?!)
Traci: What colors do you think they should put in the room?
Eli: Um…um…ernge. (orange)
(What about an orange-accented room like Ashley Ann put together for her boys, Eli?)
Traci: What if it was a little girl? What colors do you think she would like?
Eli: Um…pink!
(Like this Eli?)
Traci: What else? What would girls like in their room?
Eli: Pink and purple!
(Isn’t this a pretty pink and purple room Eli?)
Traci: What kind of decorations would girls want on their walls? Like…you probably wouldn’t see cars…but maybe…
Eli: Yes! Tars! Tars. Tars. Tars.
Traci: Cars? Girls like cars?
Eli: Yeah!
Traci: Are you sure?
Eli: Yeah.
Traci: Well, I don’t know about that.
Eli: Well, I wanna do it.
(Look Eli! You were right, girls can have cars in their bedrooms!)
Traci: What kind of toys should they have in their room?
Eli: Whatever toys dey (they) like.
Traci: What kind of toys do you think kids your age would like?
Eli: Um. Dinasers…BIG dinasers. And um. And um. Dinasers. Ernge dinasers and red dinasers.
(Look Eli! A dinosaur with a plant in his back! I think your Mom needs one of these!)
Traci: What kind of books should they have in their room?
Eli: Baby books!
(I’ve always thought this sounded like a fun book. Do you have this one Eli?)
Traci: What kind of lights should they have in their room?
Eli: A purple light!
(Do you like this one Eli? source and light)
Traci: What kind of beds should the have?
Eli: Um…baseball beds.
(Like this Eli? source)
Traci: Can you tell Layla and Kevin bye?
Eli: Bye, I lub you! (smile)
Layla: We lub you too Eli! (BIG smile!)

Pretty neat to hear about what a 4-year old boy would want in his room! We sure appreciate he and Traci taking the time to talk about it for us, and I sure appreciate this sweet little video they texted me the other day….
Not only is he creative, that kid has a great voice, huh?!
Happy Thursday!

Such a fantastic post. Eli cracked me up. I have two boys who LOVE cars, trains, and planes…but all the girls in our play group really like cars too. = ) Plus, my son loves pink. So you just never know! It’s fun to think outside of the gender norms sometimes.
gertie @ The Old Block House
He’s adorable. Such wonderful ideas too. I’m off to check out beetling!

Awww…I have an Eli too, but he is getting ready to turn 3 and probably has no desire to comment on bedrooms…bummer.
As for the inspiration pics, they are so cute! Love the orange!

can you ask eli what to do in a guest room for kids? i just got a very cute vantiy on CL, ready to paint a watermelon shade. off to pottery barn outlet for bed coverings. got some very cute sheets from macy’s. aqua print.(though i really like the ones you did in your mom’s guest room, the ones from target) so far it is kind of girly. Wait and see, i will have all grandsons (not for a while), my kids keep telling me i am gonna have to wait quite a few years. by then i guess i can redecorate 🙂
Liz
It’s so cute to see what kids come up with. I was kind of hoping for a pick your presto style room with all of those ideas combined. j/k 🙂 It will be neat to see what you guys come up with. I know decorating my daughter’s room was probably my favorite project ever.
Heidi
My 9 months old baby crawled so fast across the room to watch Eli’s video when she heard him sing, I played it over and over for her and she smiled 🙂 I think he just won her heart over Barney and Elmo! LOL So cute!
Melanie J
Tooo cute! I love his answers…..future designer on the rise! I only have 1 boy but Eli is on the money with dinosaurs and cars! My son is 12 and still has some in the locker in his room!

The tickle monster book is awesome! I got it for my neice for her 1st Christmas…she was almost 1. She LOVES the book. She is 3 know and still requests it to be read to her…but you have to wear the gloves. she gets mad if you don’t.

He is so precious. Those 3 d dinosaurs are incredible…can’t believe what they are coming up with for kids decor these days!!
Kevin
I know! I’m trying to talk Layla into putting some of those dinosaurs in our room! j/k 🙂
Lisa Cole
Cutie patootie is right! What a doll!
I like his idea about orange accents. That would work for a boy or a girl, avoids the cliche blue or pink, and could easily transition from a baby room to a more grown up one. And the little VW van was awesome! -How about an orange VW van with a little hippie beach shack vibe?
Nice job, Eli! (and the singing was a hoot)
Gail
That is too cute! I like the room ideas and that little face…wow! He’s a cutie!

What a cutie!! And such great taste. LOL
I just finished a kitchen makeover, and I wanted to share it with you if you felt like taking a peek sometime!! It turned out so nice, and I’m so happy with it! Who knew beadboard and white paint could transform a space so much?

I would love for you take a look at my post I did on creating special spaces for children featured in the House of Fifty Blog.
