Dining Room Update – Old Chandelier Crystals

Add Chandelier Crystals To Lourdes Chandelier

The table and (Lourdes) chandelier are the first things you see when you come through the front door at our house so I thought it might be fun to make it a little fancy schmancier.

The Lettered Cottage | Dining Chandelier from Ballard Designs with Chandelier Crystals

Crawling up there and staring at that fixture gave me another (*potentially* really neat!) design idea, too. I’m heading to the home improvement store tomorrow to see if I can find what I need for the project. I think it’s going to work…be back to blog about it Tuesday night if it does! 😀

PS- I’ve heard that some folks who read my blog on their iPads and iPhones are seeing annoying pop-up ads and links lately. They are not supposed to be on my blog, and after three weeks of researching, I am still trying to figure out where they’re coming from and how to remove them. I’ve also been having a heck of time with Feedblitz sending out my blog posts via email and RSS, so I’m switching to Mailchimp this week, and hoping that will help. Thanks for bearing with me as I continue to try and figure this un-fun stuff out! XO

Hi, I love the new to you fixture, and the bling. Maybe you are off to the store for different shades (just a thought). Whatever you do I know I will like. I bought a small, all metal fixture from craigslist (cheap, cheap, cheap) and painted it cocoa color to match the wall in my bathroom. I have tried to add some crystal stands but fastening them to the framework is impossible. Hurrah for you that your idea worked the crystal strands look great .

What paint color are your kitchen walls? I have the same countertop and am looking for the perfect paint to compliment it – would you mind sharing? Thank you so much! 🙂

That kitchen makeover turned out so great. Did you ever get your fridge fixed?

    • Layla

      Sep 15, 2014 at 8:00 am

Thanks, Mary Beth! And, no, unfortunately that’s still the broken one there. The gal I talked to at Whirlpool wants us to keep “hanging in there” while they “take all the necessary steps to figuring out a solution”. :-/

The pop-ups happen on all the blogs I read on my iPad. Can’t figure out how to end it on my end either! Love your blog!

How are you feeling about your french door fridge next to the wall? I need to replace our fridge and it’s in the exact same spot. I’ve been wondering if if the left door will bang against the wall. Any thoughts?

      Hi Amy!
We haven’t had a problem with the door because it opens into the pantry. The fridge itself has been broken for almost two months- so *that’s* our big problem these days. #boo

I’ve only had a pop-up from apus launcher…..was very annoying as I couldn’t x it off. I am using a samsung tablet. Didnt have any problems on other blogs. However today it hasn’t popped up yet so maybe it is fixed! Love your blog and your style. Keep up the great work.

Just as I hit the reply button….the pop-up appeared again…so I guess its not fixed..

I thought those ads were just on my Kindle, and have been trying to figure out how to block them with no luck! Several bloggers have them going on.
Can’t wait to see what you’ve teased us with! 😉

The popups are usually caused by an infected plugin. It can also spread from one virtual hosting account to another depending on how secure the host has setup the system.

If this is a recurring issue there are security scanners available and a good admin can help with cleanup but it can come back. Also move your log in page to prevent brute-force attacks and unwanted accounts from being created. Keep an eye on your admin accounts and check that no additional ones have been setup.

First and foremost, make sure you are on the latest version of WP and all of the plugins are up to date.

    Beautiful dining room!
As far as the email issues, I too am having an encrypted message. Mine is just about 30-40 lines of all letters and numbers. All random and no spaces. I’m glad it’s across the board and not just my phone. I hope you find the bug as sometimes it is very hard to accomplish that.
    Blessings to all, Hope

Hmmm….I posted a comment earlier this morning and it didn’t show up. First off, fun with the chandelier!

Second, I had my first issue with pop-ups this morning. In my original post I had given the pop-up address hoping it might help you figure things out. I went back in a bit ago and there’s no problem. It could simply be a tablet issue and have nothing to do with your blog at all.

    Have a great day!

The new blingy chandelier looks absolutely gorgeous! I’m definitely wanting to add some interest to my bedroom – but first, I’ve got to get it cleaned. 🙁 I cannot wait to see what you come up with next.

I love how the kitchen is coming together! And how cute are you in your glasses? So cute! 🙂 Also… that lunch sign is becoming my favorite kitchen art. I liked it when you first showed it, but every time I see it, I like it even more. 🙂

Thanks, Layla, for working to get rid of the pop-ups. Another thing I have noted is that it takes FOREVER for your posts to load. ( I use a Galaxy S3 phone.) Sadly, I often don’t wait for them to load so I don’t get to check in on you as often as I’d like.
LOVE your chandy and I agree that adding crystals would be a beautiful way to dress it up. Bling? Yes, please!
Praying for your little guy. Blessings, Karen

      Hi Karen!
Thanks for the feedback! I actually moved my blog to a private server earlier this year so that it would load super fast. (Before that I was on a shared server) I also pay for a subscription to something called Cloud Flare to help even more with the load time. Can you do me a favor and see how quick it loads on another device/computer? It should be loading lickety split! 🙂

      • Patricia

        Sep 18, 2014 at 1:28 pm

It also loads slowly on my iPad and the popup ads happen to me too. I usually skip your posts on a daily basis because of the problems and then when there’s about 5 posts on my blog reader, I go over and catch up. I do it that way to avoid the annoyances on a daily basis, it would just stress me out so I catch up on days where I’m off work and don’t have any stress to think about!

          Sep 18, 2014 at 4:38 pm

Thanks for the heads up, Patricia! Some technical-minded folks have shared with me that the reason they’re popping up on i-devices is because a pop-up blocker needs to be turned to ON on those. I’m going to see if I can find that on my iPhone. I’ll let you know where it is if I am successful! 😀

I’m on a kindle fire and can’t see what I’m typing right now because of the pop up. It covers your photos and it’s literally impossible to get rid of it. Has been this way for a couple weeks now.

Thanks for the heads up Mindy. Someone suggested turning on a pop-up blocker on mobile devices. Is that an option on a Kindle?

Really like the addition of the crystals to the chandelier. A shorter version would be neat on that upper metal circle, too. Fun to play with all the variations.

Love this look!! Can’t wait to see what else you are doing. I also had added old crystals to my dining room chandelier a few years ago. Some were from etsy and some were from my grandmother. Everyone just loved it, I actually had a friend come to take pictures of it to help her sister in law try to create this for her chandelier.

Hi Layla, yeah this irritating pop up just keeps appearing at different places on this post. (I have an Ipad.) Enjoyed reading about the chandy and new bling. What’s not to love?

    • Layla

      Sep 19, 2014 at 7:37 am

      Hi Judy!

Can you do me a favor and make sure you have your iPad set to block pop-ups? A few folks have mentioned that that may be the problem.

I just wanted to let you know that I use my computer and Bloglovin’ to read and receive your blog posts and it is loading really fast (faster than before for me and never any pop ups).

    Thanks and take care,
    Michelle

I have pop ups turned off on here. Maybe it’s not considered a pop up then. It’s an ad that shows at the bottom of the page and covers the typing at the bottom and when you scroll to read it, the ad stays at the bottom of the page and so you have to keep scrolling so it doesn’t cover up what you want to read. Some of the ads have an x that you can click to make it go away, others don’t. Also it doesn’t always happen. Sometimes refreshing the page makes it not come back.

I have not been able to bring your blog up on my computer since mid September. Not sure what the problem is. I have tried several computers and the last post available is the one about your chandelier (Sept 14th). I don’t think you have shut your blog down have you?

    • Layla

      Nov 4, 2014 at 6:26 pm

      Hi Sharon!

I’ve been blogging every Monday, Wednesday and Friday since then, but you may have to clear your cookies/cache in order to see the most recent posts. I switched hosting companies around that time, so you’re probably seeing an old version of my blog. Thank you for checking in with me about it, and I’d love it if you could let me know if it works! 😀
