Calling All E-Friends

May 5, 2011 By Layla

Greetings!

We have some exciting news to share today!  We’ve been working on something “design TV-related” for a while now, and we’re really excited about the direction it’s moving in.
Think:
our blog in 3D…meaning, low-dough/high-smile room redos, real-life DIY adventures, and lots of YOU!

At this point, we need to see if you’d be into A) having us over to help you redo a room or two (or three!), and/or B) helping us redo someone’s elses space(s). (Maybe you’re a mural artist, or a seamstress, or you’d just like to lend a helping hand by painting a wall or working on a craft project with us, etc.)

We also need to know what area you live in. (City/State/Country)  (You can live anywhere, and every comment will be read!)

We hoping to round up as many responses as we can in the next 48 hours, so if you’re interested, and you have time to leave a comment, please do!

We’re working with some super-talented and creative folks and they’re very interested in seeing the response to this post, so please don’t be shy, and thank you so much! We’ll definitely keep you posted and we hope to hug you soon!

PS- We’d also like to invite you to join us on Facebook & Twitter!

(We’re seeking responses on those sites too! Thank You!)

Please come to Tampa. Our livingroom is undecoratable. Our kitchen is dark and sad. Our bedroom has the blahs.

Is this a trick question? Of course I would love you to come help redo a room!! Say hello to my outdated kitchen. Q: How many times have I looked at your posts about painting kitchen cabinets? A: More times than I can even count. And yet I still haven’t touched the kitchen. I’m a stay at home mom with a 3 year old boy and a one year old girl. We live in an old farmhouse in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. The people that updated the house in the 90’s took down all the plaster and put up drywall… so sad… no nice wood walls under my walls like you lucky ducks. Come on over and visit!

I would love some help and creativity. I live in Anderson, SC. We currently have our master suite completely gutted. We turned a living room into a bedroom, moved 2 walls, turned an old bedroom into a bathroom, and a bathroom into a closet. Whew! We have finished the electrical work and plumbing and are now starting the process of putting it all back together (putting in whitewashed pine ceiling, sheetrock, tile, flooring, paint, decorating, and so on). We love this kind of stuff but would love extra feedback and help!

Oooooh! Option A please! I daydream of having a makeover on my house. My hubbie and I have 4 yr old twin boys and a 2 yr old little girl, so it doesn’t leave much time (or energy) for decorating around here.

We live in the Dallas, Texas metroplex.

Here’s to crossing my fingers 😉

You can get some Canadian content on your show and come up and give us a hand with a room (or five!) at our pad in Ottawa, Canada. We’d also love to give a helping hand with another project. Sounds super fun!!

    Good luck with it all!

I live in Bristow, VA (about 30 miles west of Washington D.C.). Come show some love to my house! I have 5 children under 10 which keeps me pretty busy. When I do get a free moment, I try to “improve” on my house. I’d love for you and Kevin to come and put that “little something special” into my sapces (specifically my family room/kithcen, but I have other spaces you can choose from also….like my kids bunk room!). I don’t really have many handy talents, but I can help you paint adn I’m learning to build little by little on small projects around my house (shelves in the kids room, new tabletop for my kitchen table). I’m looking forward to what you two have in the works!

Recently completed our family room using your DIY Wonder Wall post. Love it!

We’re just coming off of a LONG Minnesota winter and would love to have you two “take it outside” with us.

We have a two acre wooded lot and are attempting to design an outdoor kitchen/entertainment area off our large vaulted, but 1980’s wooded sunroom.

If not, there’s always the kitchen/dining/living area ….

I’m an artist/seamstress/DIY fan, the BIGS (hubs and two college/high school sons) provide the grunt/paint work:).

Lots of handy neighbors on our block to help , as well. Good luck on your new adventure!

We live in a really cute cottageish style house that has amazing potential but with two small children and one income its potential has been placed on indefinite hold!! We live in Richmond, TX which is about 30 miles outside of Houston. We live in an amazing little community and we would LOVE to see you guys in our driveway! PLEASE COME SEE US!

I’d love for you to come do as many rooms as you wanted in my house! And if you did come to this area – I’d help anyway possible – I’m pretty handy with a sewing machine. I’m in NC, right in between Raleigh/Durham and Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg.

We live 15 minutes west of Atlanta in a 1950’s ranch that we have been renovating for the last several years. Still plenty of work to be done and we are starting a garden shed/shop this summer. We would love to a part of one of your projects – not afraid of hard work! Thanks so much for the opportunity!

I’ve got one for you! Pick a room or even outside. I live with my husband of almost 4 years in NJ. We bought a little house a few years ago and well…. we go t in over our heads a little (ok a lot) being first time homeowners. It’s a little overwhelming and I’m stuck in a bunch of areas of the house. As in- my house looks like a case of writer’s block (design block?). My house needs architectural elements (and some style!) to make it into the cute cottage/bungalow I know it could be. Please help!

    Hey Layla and Kevin:
I have been reading your blog for about a year now. It has become my “eye candy” escape.
I have the perfect project for your design and decor talents. My daugther, AE, is a single, 28 year old high school history teacher. AE is the only female in her department and she takes alot of teasing for her “fru-fru” classroom. Living on a teachers salary means she can only afford to decorate one space and she chose her classroom where she spends the majority of her time. We would so LOVE to have some help and inspiration with the decor of her rented condo. We have done just alittle bit with pieces from Goodwill and Craigslist, but it’s a pretty sad place.
Thanks so much for your blog and inspiration.
    Cheers!

Welcome Kevin and Layla to sunny Florida!! I live in Wesley Chapel, Fl (10 minutes north of Tampa)

I would love to have you come out and redo my kitchen & family room it’s one of those great open concept designs. But let me be very honest I’am open to redo any room of your choice. Your work is amazing fresh and clean. I’am so ready to lighten things up around here, I’ve kinda been stuck in the whole red and gold theme time for a change.

My husband loves to tell anyone who will listen, “I swear everytime Sherri paints the walls were losing square footage”.

Thank you so much for considering us!

We would love to have you visit our little cottage style bungalow in Iowa! We live in Davenport, Iowa – the Quad Cities. Your blog is actually the blog that turned me on to the whole blogging world! Thank you for that!!! I have been truly inspired by your story and your talent. My husband and I purchased our first time fixer upper in May 2008. Unfortunately life has thrown us a bit of adversity the last couple of years. Needless to say we have lots of good design intentions with lots of unfinished projects! We are hoping to start getting some things done!
I would be totally into helping you design, go to a flea market, you name it! I can sew a bit myself and my handy husband is a carpenter. Oh yeah did I mention my big bro owns a home accessories and decor store Dwellings, in LeClaire, Iowa our home town??? Score! The possibilities are endless!!!

Yes! I’d love your help on a few room redos! Starting out small is a fireplace wall redo, we also have a kitchen in need, a full basement renovation, and an attic to master bedroom conversion in the works. Our house is more of a craftsman bungalow (think Frank Lloyd Wright inspiration, just about three hours from his Chicago homes) than cottage, and we use a lot of warm colors – browns, reds, mustard yellow,a pop of oranges and muted greens. My husband and I do all of our own home repair.Would also love some Photoshop help n any and all of these areas, as well as exterior siding ideas. We like to mix the expected craftsman style with funky eclectic twists. For example, we have a knight in shining armor in our dining room opposite the built in china hutch. Currently my husband is angeling for a spot for his gargoyle. We love to browse antique shops and resale shops and TJ Maxx and Pier One Imports on weekend dates so we have some original pieces. I browse blogs and magazines and websites for design inspirations. We love to travel in the Caribbean when we can scrape up some non-house money and time and I love the colorful fabrics, and art from this diverse region. We have three teenagers and are definitely on a budget. We do our remodels with attention to detail, saving where we can and splurging where it counts Pick me! I can send you some pics if you are interested!

How exciting for you! Not sure if you want to come to rural western Illinois, but my husband and I farm near Marietta, IL. We remodeled our farmhouse a couple years ago and could use some major help in the living room and our bedroom. Living room has amazing 19-foot cathedral ceilings – with an antique hay rail mounted up top! – but it also has the unfortunate-plaid-but-still-supportive couches I bought 11 years ago. Bedroom? Good bones but furnished only with whatever leftover furniture we had. No headboard, nothing interesting, nothing fun.

Would love for you both to come help us out here in Fort Collins, CO (north of Denver). We love trying to do things low dough and high style in our plain jain track home. We have even used a used elevator door to turn into shelves. Our goal is to get our plain generic track home to feel architectural unique and feel more homey. Please come help us with your amazing way to put things together!

Kevin and Layla, Come back to Minnesota to visit your dad, Layla, and then come for a visit to my lake home in Alexandria. It’s easy to get to and hard to leave. I could use your help and would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to help someone else if I could. I am turning 60 on May 20th and was inspired by a story through you awhile back where your friend celebrated her birthday with random acts of kindess. Although on a much smaller scale, I hope to celebrate that way, too. Have a fun day you two!

    Hi Guys!
I would totally be lucky to have you guys help us renovate (literally from top to bottom) a foreclosure that was purchased on a lake that was in total disarray but now that we’ve got a chance to look at it – we want to gut it and make this unloved jungle-ly-mess into a gorgeous lakeside retreat! So you’d have the total opportunity to help us re envision the space from scratch 🙂 We’re in Orlando, Florida and we’d love to have a moment in the sun with you! In fact, if you have time – we’ve got our house as well that could use some love’n! You’ve done such a wonderful job of creating a beautiful space for the two of you and your upcoming pluses! Thanks for sharing your inspiration!

    Lots of love,
Linda (a daughter who would love to surprise my mum with the vision of the house on the lake that she’s always wanted)

I would love for you to come to my house!!! I just bought a true cosmetic fixer and everyroom needs to be decorated. It has some fun spaces and huge fun shape bedrooms.

I live in Valparaiso IN, about an hour outside of chicago.

I LOVE all your work that you have done on your home and you have actually inspired me to get back into fixing houses, which I have done in the past and it is my true passion. I am hoping to begin a blog myself to highlight this challenge, I think it is going to be an amazing transformation.

Would love to be considered, please let me know if you need more information from me!

I live in Columbus Ohio. I WOULD LOVE LOVE LOVE FOR YOU GO ……to my daughter’s house to do a room re-do or two or three. Her and her hubby live paycheck to paycheck and have lots of work that could use an update in their home. Like the kitchen and TINY master bedroom…. AND I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be involved in all the work and I know a lot of other peeps in town that would also work and sweat and be there to help with a re-do there……

Helping people decorate & design their homes is one of my goals {someday} so if you are ever in UTAH or anywhere close I would be so excited to help out! How exciting to be 3-D!! My husband and I would love to participate and have you come to Cape Elizabeth, Maine! We moved here 8 months ago for my husband’s new job. We’ve been renting but can finally say we will close on our new house next month. I really want to change my decor from autumn color, farmhouse to light, coastal cottage since we are next to the sea and literally have rights to “secret beach”. I love hearing the waves crashing and the fog horns from the ships and the light house nearby. Our new house needs updating, especially the kitchen and family room. For pictures visit the real estate site http://www.realestateinportlandmaine.com/property/2-masefield-Terrace-Cape-Elizabeth-Maine . I just melt when I see your home redo and want to have that same feeling for my own home. Good luck with everything. You are both so talented.
Maybe we’ll meet you over some lobstah or chowdah!

I would LOVE to HELP you on any project! I live in Canton, GA just north of Atlanta. I love design work, creating things, and finding a treasure!

How excited are you at such an overwhelming response! You are Blessed!

You can come redo all my rooms! I am a girl who has been transplanted in the south but my heart longs for a coastal home! I spent my summers growing up on the coast of Maine and I miss it so. I would love for my home to reflect that style. I now live in Searcy, AR. It is a beautiful town with lovely people but my home is currently lacking in the style my heart longs for! I love your blog and style in your home. You guys are so talented.

As I posted on Facebook, I highly recommend my 1970s split foyer that is still stuck in the 70s (we just moved in last fall). I have a kitchen that desperately calls out for a coastal cottage theme. *basking in a sigh of pleasure just dreaming of it* You’ll find my home in Huxley, Iowa. 🙂

It would be great to have your help in redoing a room(s) for my Mom in Sacramento, CA. She recently retired which is great because we get to see her more now but not so good for a redo budget to update her home. She has been a single mother, always on a tight budget, living in the first home SHE ever owned and nothing has changed since the house was built in the 1980’s. This would be the best surprise ever!

ohhh my! I need you to come to Washington DC! My husband and I are both airline pilots and live in a dark and dreary apartment that is worse than all of the hotels we are always staying in! I have desperately tried to liven it up but I just can’t commit to anything. We need something bright and clean to come home to and relax in. And we can get you cheap airfare to come see us too 😉

Oh my gosh! What an opportunity! My husband and I own a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath house (two-story) in Winters California (about an hour and a half from San Francisco). We bought it about a year and a half ago when we got married. =)

It wasn’t very old (about 15 years), but it had never been updated and was bank owned, so there is sooo much updating to do. We work on it whenever we have the chance…we’ve pulled out cabinets, put in new countertops, sink, installed a dishwasher, floors in the kitchen & living room, and on and on! We’ve busted our butts and we’ve never hired anyone or had anyone to help us!

We are both graduate students and teachers out here and with a puny budget and no family in the area…it’s been a slow and occasionally painful experience, but we have had the good fortune of being guided by your blog! We’ve done our best to get at that beachy/sea/cottagy feel, but…we’re going at a turtle’s pace!

On the plus side, we are amazingly handy! Lighting, plumbing, painting, we can help!
I have three bedrooms and our one and only bath that we’ve only painted. Please please, pretty please (with a cherry on top) help us renovate! Your help would be such a blessing!

Okay okay, I’ll stop now! Lots of love and good luck in your search for the right homes! You’re amazing!

Layla and Kevin, come to Canada! We live in a beautiful city called Guelph, about an hour from Toronto. We moved into a Cape Cod style house last year. We think it was built in the 1930’s or 40’s, but no one knows for sure because it was moved to its current location in the early 50’s. Our house was once three apartments. A previous owner began restoring it to a beautiful home with a basement apartment. When we first moved in, my husband and I (with some help from my dad) re-did the basement apartment, but we have barely touched our part. The house is full of potential with old creaky wooden floors, great baseboards and mouldings and some fab built-ins…..BUT, there is still so much to do. There is a chimney, but no fireplace. What lurks behind the wall? The dining room was once a hair salon, then music studio. It needs some help to feel like a dining room again. The upstairs needs help! Our daughter has to walk through our room to get to hers….walls need to taken down and put up and our room needs some help to feel like a master bedroom.
We are a creative family that loves to tackle a good project. We love vintage finds and classic, comfortable design. We would love for you to come!
