Good Friends and Vintage Quilts

Sep 18, 2016 By Layla

Happy Monday! Did you have a nice weekend?
We had a fun visit with the Lotz family on Saturday, and I can’t tell you how sweet it was to see Steevenson playing with one of his best friends in the whole wide world- Nicodette.

The two of them shared the same nanny at the orphanage in Haiti, and attended school together for the last few years, so they had a super special bond, and we are so glad the Lotz’ were able to stop by on their way to the beach!

I also started cleaning out one of Steevenson’s closets this weekend. Remember the one we built him a couple of years ago?

Up until now, I’ve been keeping my vintage quilts, old clothes, and extra Pike Road Southern t-shirts in it, but now that Steevenson is home, I’m feeling extra nest-y, and I’m really realizing which things I just don’t need to hang on to anymore.

I’ve already listed the quilts on eBay…

…but, I will admit, it will be especially hard to part with that last one. I haven’t used it one time since I bought it several years ago though, so I feel like that means it’s time for it to go. (What’s that they say about clothing? If you haven’t worn it in 6 months, it’s time to get rid of it?) I will miss those little turtle/flowers though! 😀

That last one was always my favorite.

Ya know…whenever I saw it inside my son’s closet. 😉

PS- If you’re on the hunt for vintage goods, I’m sort of on a mission to clean out and list some more previously-loved pretties on eBay over the next month or so. If you’d like to take a look-see at my listings, here’s a link that will take you straight to my page:

I love beautiful vintage quilts like these, I checked the link & it seems you’ve sold them all – that or because we’re in New Zealand it’s not quite linking properly, more than likely the latter… I adore Stevenson’s room!! I bet he does too.
Love your blog, tune in every week??‍♀️❌⭕️❌

I love vintage quilts. When I loss my precious Mother@64 several years ago. She had a vintage quilt that was new to her. I kept it and still have it. One of my 4 granddaughters will use it when she lays on our couch. It doesn’t interest the others.
I love your form of decorating, and really like Steevenson’s room. How could he not like it, too.

      Nina and Trish,

They are still listed on eBay. They are being sold by auction and they have 4 more days until bidding ends.

Hope you get one if you want one. 🙂

Are you sure you want to part with the last quilt? I hear wistfulness when you speak of it. I remember when you posted that you bought those quilts in anticipation of preparing a room for your future child or children. All those years ago the turtle quilt reminded me of when my husband traveled to Haiti in June of 1998. He spent a week in Cyvadier, the small village overlooking the southern coast where our daughter was born. Each day local fishermen would come to the kitchen window of the missionary’s home where he was staying, selling their catch of the day. One day during his stay, Mona, the Haitian woman who worked for the missionary, bought and served sea turtle.

If it hasn’t already sold maybe you should hang on to the quilt and enjoy it for picnics, building forts and as a visual reminder to frequently tell Steevenson the story of how you longed for and prayed for him long before he came home. And someday it will be the perfect pallet for a napping grandbaby.

I’m so happy for your family and love hearing all the updates on your adjustment as a family. You’re doing a great job!

Layla, don’t worry about the ‘6 month rule’… I LOVE the Konmari Method (look her up, you’ll LOVE it!)… just think to yourself “does this ‘spark joy?’ and you’ll know what to get rid of and what to keep.

    : )

Quilts aren’t showing on ebay for me either. Your profile is showing, though… Is it because I am in Canada?

Oh, yes…that must be why they aren’t showing. So sorry about that, y’all!

Your adoption journey and purging, and lots of other things in my life lately, are reminding me of this saying:

    Don’t love things and use people;
    Love people and use things!

Faith, Family and Friends are the only 3 things that matter.
