“Butterflies can’t see their wings. They can’t see how truly beautiful they are, but everyone else can. People are like that as well.”
―Naya Rivera
I got a sweet just-for-fun gift in the mail from my mom last week. It’s called My Garden Box, and it was created by the folks who own the business my mom manages in Florida. Steevenson decided he wanted to put it together for Kevin for Father’s Day. I absolutely love that kids think like that, by the way.
If flowers make Mama gasp, why wouldn’t they thrill Daddy’s heart too?
I didn’t notice it as much before I became a mom, but man am I charmed by that particular brand of innocence, time and time again, these days. So free to enjoy things as few adults can. So unaware of how truly beautiful it is, the way they flutter around, assuming the best.
I put together a short video to document the making of Kevin’s present, and their first Father’s Day together. I thought I’d share it here today because I’m guessing a lot of you are smitten with all things butterflies and bubbly baby boys, too. 🙂
Thanks again for the thoughtful/easy/fun project, Mom, and happy Thursday, friends!

Happy Father’s Day, Kevin! That’s a great gift from a happy heart that Ioves you very much! isn’t it fun to watch kids create things and see their joy in giving to others? God bless you all!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I have tears of joy for y’all. xxx
Sweet innocence. You will treasure that video forever!
Love to see the most beautiful and good things happening in this world. Great way to start the day rather than the news! Keep the good things coming.
So precious. I can’t tell who is smiling more, your son giving the gift, your husband receiving the gift or you anticipating the gift. Good stuff indeed.
What a lovely video….and how GREATLY Steevenson’s language has improved. It is such a joy to see how your sweet family is growing together <3
Love it! The Mom thing to do…you love the butterfly plain but it looks like Steevenson painted it? And now you couldn’t love it more, right?! Of course “Daddy’s gonna love it”! Thanks for sharing your family and all that little boy sweetness! Happy first Father’s Day to Kevin!
so kind of you to share such a precious video! happy sigh.
Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing this sweet moment.
Making memories forever …Nothing like a father and son hug:}
Oh so cute! Nothing pleases a child more than creating a gift for someone! I still cherish each gift my girls made, and they are pushing their 40’s now! Hope you took a photo of Kevin, Steevenson and the gift, so he can have it forever!
Such a happy dream filled heart your boy has. I hope he never loses that WONDER.
Great gift.
Steevenson’s English has improved SO MUCH. That’s incredible. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing. His voice just makes me melt!
I needed some happy today!!!!!!
Love, love knowing that you and Kevin have now experienced your first Mothers Day and Fathers Day with that precious boy! Thank you for sharing this endearing moment between your two guys. Thanks also for the info about My Garden Box! I have friends and family members for whom the butterfly has special meaning, so a butterfly garden like this one would make an awesome gift. 🙂
So love love love to see you and Kevin with your son!
Your sweet boy makes my heart smile so much! The best part is whenever he responds, “I love you, too!”
Adorable!!
So sweet it made me tear up. I LOVE it when you post videos of Steevenson.
Happy 1st father’s day Kevin! What a great response to his gift. Fatherhood looks good on you.
And happy 1st father’s day to you Layla. Here’s to many more, creating surprises for Daddy. Sometimes the most fun is in the gift creation process and seeing how excited they are to make and give something to a loved one. Truly a gift for him too – making memories with his mom and dad. It truly lasts a lifetime.
Last year my 3 yr old nephew and I with help from Daddy (my bro), made Nana and Mommy handprint aprons. This year it was fingerprint fridge magnets. So much laughter and love as we created together. The bonus is we get to look back and see how tiny his hands were.
Hugs to all of you. It’s so special. What an honour to be a part of it this way. What a blessing to be invited into your special moment. Bless you all.
Hugs!
The sweetest video! Thank you so much for sharing. Seriously made me cry!!!
