Thought-Full Thursday: An Adoption Story

Jul 12, 2017 By Layla

“I want her to have a pedal to the metal life. I want her to dance, I want her to sing. I want her to celebrate, and to live in light of the reality that God celebrates her.”
-Lisa Harper

I’ll never forget meeting sweet Lisa. I was at the Franklin Theater in Tennessee, where she was taping her Mark Bible study that night. I walked in the front door and there she was. Arms open, smiling splaying. 🙂

She waved me into a hug before she ever said a word, and when she finally did, I heard,  “I know who you are…and I’ve prayed for you“.

I knew that our mutual friend, Angie, had shared our adoption story with her- but I didn’t know she had been following along with it (via social media) or lifting up prayers about it at that time. It gave us so much hope to see her daughter come home and it meant so much to know that another first-time mama, who had been Called to walk the same (winding) road, was “with” us during that season.

And as I watched her adoption story video, I was reminded to express a very heartfelt thanks to anyone reading this that did the same for us. I will never know how many prayer warriors the three of us had while we were waiting to bring Steevenson home, but if you were one of them, know that we will be eternally grateful for the part you played in helping us become a family. You had our backs and we were/are so humbled by your kindness!

Our “Gotcha Day” is August 19th, and we’re excited to celebrate Steevenson’s 1-year homecoming anniversary next month. Can you believe it’s been that long already? I had a feeling time would fly much faster once he got here. 😉

Just for fun, here are a couple of videos from 1 month home and 10 months home…

Oh, my! Thank you! Lisa and Missy’s story has me crying such tears this morning. Sad tears for the little girl no one would pick up but joyous tears that they have each other now.

Amen! No words to fully express the beauty and power of God’s love in and through each of your adoption journeys! My husband and I are in the adoption process and I have been following yours and Lisa’s stories for a while now. Thank you, so much, for sharing your journey, because God uses it all to encourage, strengthen and bless. Such a precious gift to be reminded again and again that while adoption is not easy, it is so very much part of God’s plans. :o)

This makes me remember that every time you would post about your journey, I would pray for you and him. That he would come home soon. It makes my heart so happy to see that blessed boy growing and learning with his family. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year.

I prayed. And prayed. And now I’m letting you be a family. I no longer think of him as anything but your son now. I thought of this I think of myself as God’s child. I know I was purchased with Jesus blood. But my heart feels like His child.
Like my head knows he your son is adopted but my heart says He is your son. No one else’s. Anymore. Hug him and don’t respond. Instead read S a poem by Robert Lewis Stevenson. I like the one The Swing. My children loved that too.
