“One of the most radical things you could ever do is to decide to really and truly get to know yourself. That’s all.”
-Cleo Wade
Isn’t that the truth? I’d even change that last part to: “decide to really and truly BE yourself”.
That’s where I’m at this year. Really and truly justΒ beingΒ myself. I’m sure it has something to do with 40-something hormones (boy, they’re stinkers, aren’t they?) and I’m sure it has a lot to do with me becoming a mama 12 months ago, too. Wild how that role, and getting to know yourΒ child, helps you get to know yourself.

Are you at the stage where you see your Mother in yourself yet? Usually occurs when you are a Mom. Glad to hear you are being you, and not what you *think* you should be. As for hormones – just wait, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! LOL! (Not really an LOL time though.)
Oh my! Yes indeedy! I only thought hormonal fluctuations were bad in my 20s, 30s and 40s. Then I hit 56 and menopause hit me like a run away train. Sheesh! Fortunately, the hormonal craziness does die down somewhat. Steam room hot flashes compared to Mount Vesuvius hot flashes…..small blessings, lol!
Twelve months already? Wow.
Kids do help us know more about ourselves … in my case, sometimes it has been traits I don’t really care for … good for keeping me humble!
Nice thoughts. The date on your blog is off by one day. I thought I was losing my mind.
Hmmm…it’s Thursday the 17th here in Alabama, so it’s displaying correctly for me.
I’m Washington State and on my screen it reads Thursday Aug 16. In fact, the 16th is displayed for your blog on all my devices. Weird.
Maybe Washington is on another planet π
Roll Tide (I just couldn’t help myself).
I’m in Texas and it reads Thursday, August 16 for me, too. I’ve noticed it is always a day off. I thought maybe it was because you wrote it at night and posted it the next day? Regardless, I love reading you blog!!
Oh, that may be it. I publish them at 11:59pm each night. Guess I’ll start setting it for 1 minute *after* midnight instead. π
Children definitely show us how we truly are. Good and bad. And in the long run help us to become our best selves. I finally (in my 40’s) decided I was done with being who others thought I should be! As for the hormones, hang on. But you’ve got this.
Taken a step further…be the person God meant for you to be.
As for hormones…stay away from unnecessary sugar…soda, cookies, from concentrate juices, anything containing high fructose corn syrup, etc. It will really cut down on mood swings. Wine of course is a necessary sugarπ
Hi – Love this post…but hey, I’m in New Mexico and your post reads Thursday, August 16…hmmm. π
