My Favorite Jewelry

Apr 28, 2014 By Layla

**This giveaway has ended. Thanks so much to everyone who entered!**

Y’all know about my friend Lucy’s jewelry, right?

Lucys Inspired Jewelry

For those that don’t, she makes her creations from architectural salvage and vintage jewelry and I am just crazy about the stuff!

Lucys Inspired Vintage to Vogue Jewelry

She sent me this necklace recently, and I literally gasped when I first saw it:

Lucy Lockets Necklace | The Lettered Cottage

Ya see that strand of cream & gold vintage leaves that make up the right side of the chain? My Grandma Evelyn had a necklace just like that, and man does it makes me smile every time I see it. 🙂

Here’s another one of my favorites:

Lucy Locket Necklace | The Lettered Cottage

My wedding anniversary is 6/25, so wearing that one makes me extra smiley, too. 🙂

***

Since Mother’s Day is right around the corner, Lucy and I thought it would be fun to host a Lucy Lockets giveaway here this week!

The person whose name is (randomly) selected can choose any one of Lucy’s pieces (up to $75). You can see all of her beautiful jewelry at Lucys Inspired, and if you’d like to enter for a chance to win one here, just leave a mom-related message in the comment section below this post. It could be a note about being a mom, or a special story about your mom or grandma- anything that you’d like to share to celebrate the upcoming holiday. 🙂

The giveaway will be open until Wednesday, April 30th at 9am (CST) and I’ll include the winner’s name at the end of this Friday’s post. Good luck and happy Monday!

PS- Instagrammers: Lucy’s Instagram feeds (LucysInspired and Lucys_Lockets) are two of my favorites to follow along with, too! 😉

Each time we have a baby my husband gives me a special piece of jewelry. On special days like their birthdays, or a school plays and programs I wear their jewelry. It makes them so happy to see it, and hear the story of the day they came into our lives.

My grandmother was so precious to me. She loved when I came to see her in the nursing home, and always called me her “baby girl”. She told me a story a long time ago that right after her and my grandfather got married, their house was broken into. The burgular got every piece of jewelry my grandmother had, except her wedding rings (even though they were sitting with all the rest of her jewelry). Those rings had always been very special to me because of that. After she passed away six years ago, she left me those rings. I put them on with such happiness and joy, and I haven’t taken them off since. Everytime I look at them I am reminded that even though she is gone, I will always be her baby girl. I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day. 🙂

    What lovely pieces she makes!

I am looking forward to Mother’s Day, not just because I’ll probably get to be with my five children, but because it’s another chance to take the focus off myself (all too easy to do) and think about somebody else. In this case, my mom and my mother-in-law. I am so thankful for both of them.

Thinking of you too, Layla…you are already a mom in many ways, but by this time next year (according to God’s will), you”ll be a diaper-changing, little-boy hugging, up-in-the-night mommy. I am so excited for you!

My mom and grandmother both loved big necklaces. This is the first year without my grandmother, who passed away in October. One of these would be a lovely gift for my mother!

29 years ago on Mother’s Day, my husband and I were sitting in church during the baby dedication program with tears streaming down our faces. We wanted a baby so badly and had recently applied for adoption. That very afternoon, we received the call that our “Life Book” had been selected!! Calling my mom right after that and telling her that she was going to be a Grandma for the first time was one of the best experiences of my life!! Two weeks later, our first son Josh was born – BEST MOTHER’S DAY AND MEMORIAL DAY (his birthday) EVER!!

My mom passed away four years ago.. She was my first friend, and my best friend. I miss her every minute of every day. She is the reason I wanted to be a mother. Layla, I see how close you are with your mom. It warms my heart and makes me smile when you post the things the two of you do together! I can’t wait for you to add Sweet P to all the fun!

I love being a mom. I am the proud mom of a brilliant beautiful daughter, and a equally brilliant strong Navy Corpsman. I didn’t start my family till late into my 20s thinking I was too old! Haha on me. I am so glad I waited. My wish for women and girls is that they wait until their late 20s or later. We need to figure out who we are before we devote our lives to raising our future. Happy Mothers Day to all the moms, future moms , and moms of fur babies!

Mother has been gone a year and a half. Dad misses her so, and so do I. She was so creative and productive. The jewelry reminds me of her creativity. She treasured old family items. She would have appreciated these beautiful creations. I can see why they are favorites of yours.

I lost my Mom suddenly to a brain aneurysm when I was 20 and she was only 40. I’m now older than she lived to be, which is kind of surreal. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of her and miss her. She shaped me in more ways than I can count. It makes me sad she didn’t get to meet her grandsons, but I know without a doubt, she’s their special guardian angel!
I love following your adoption journey. I hope and pray for your little Sweet P to join you SOON!!

For some reason this Mother’s Day reminds me of my Grandma, who used to gather some homemade musical instruments when my brother and I went to see her and we’d have a parade!

Happy Mother’s Day!….. if things get a little boring try blowing on a paper wrapped comb, banging a wooden spoon on a pie tin and marching around the living room!

I have the privilege of providing a significant portion of the care for my 90-year-old mom as she journeys through Alzheimer’s to Heaven. God has used this season to change me greatly and in good ways as well as give me a special kind of love for Mom.

    I like to win, too!

My daughter told us ten years ago she was pregnant. We were sad thinking about how her life would suddenly change forever, as a single mom. Never did I realize what a blessing that little boy would be to our family. The father is not involved (a good thing) so I have been very involved in our grandson’s life. I’m so proud of my daughter for the type of mother she is to our grandson – and what a witness she has been to me and to her son. God blessed us beyond words bringing our grandson into our lives!! 🙂

Motherhood is something beyond words. It’s a love so deep and pure and unaltered throughout time. I am grateful every minute of every day for the mothers that have gone before me in this life and for my beautiful and sweet little girls that are now my whole life. There are five generations of women still gathering for Mother’s Days in our family. My great grandmother is 93 and she is the mother I someday hope to be. She is still learning, still evolving as a person. She is not perfect, that’s what I love about her. She’s human. But she loves fiercely and hurts tenderly with her children and great-great-grandchildren when they feel sorrow. She is full of life in her every breath. To mother’s everywhere, especially those that can only be mother’s in their hearts for now, I pray for you and praise you for yours is the work of saving souls one day and one smile at a time.

My mother died two days before my oldest son was born. She had never met my sons, nor my grandchildren. She would be proud of them and they would love her so much. Sometimes I will say or do something and it’s just like my mom…that’s a good thing! Thank you for the chance to win gift certificate for Lucy’s jewelry.

I never knew what I was meant to be until I became a mom! I am ALWAYS learning something about myself, my daughter, and my family every day. And yes, there are days that are SO hard. But it is the BEST thing I have ever done in my life.

What fun jewelry! Moms are the best – not necessarily me (even though I am one) but all of you guys who put in so much hard work and sweat. It’s a HARD job but so worth it.
