It’s “Vlog Vandredi”! For all my French-speaking readers, yes, they spell Vandredi with an “a” in Haitian Creole. For all my English-only speaking readers, Vandredi means “Friday” in my Sweet P’s birth country. 🙂
Today’s vlog is about the curtains around our front door. Click the play button to watch…
I also should’ve mentioned that since the wall those curtains are on is the same wall that flows into the living room, I really liked the idea of treating all five openings the same way. I don’t have curtains on the rods in the living room yet, but you get the idea, right?
Alright- who has an idea for next week’s vlog? I’m all ears if you want to throw out another design-related question or comment we can chat about!
PS- I’m thinking I might post more than just my Friday vlog over on my YouTube channel, so if you’d like to watch any additional videos I upload, just click through this link: YouTube.com/TheLetteredCottage and click the little red “subscribe” button to be notified whenever a new one pops up! (Thank you for having fun with me this way, y’all! XO)
Hi Layla, I would have never thought to put curtains around the door, but it really works. Very inspiring!
I love your vlogs, they make me smile ?
That is a great idea! So pretty, stylish, and with a purpose!
Love the look Layla! I tried curtains in an archway across from my front door, but they didn’t seem right…maybe it’s time for a redo?
Have a great day!
I love your vlogs! love everything you do!!!
Layla, your vlogs are the best idea ever! You’re so natural in front of the camera – I feel like I’m having a conversation with you. And – you make me laugh -keep it up!
I love your vlogs and your style. I would really love for you to chat about curating your decor and how you do it so successfully. I have so many things that I love. I seem to end up with too many things on display and it feels too dense and heavy. Any tips on how to be more selective would be greatly appreciated. It would also be great to see how you store your decor pieces when not in use.
You are too cute.
That is an interesting idea. We have a glass front door that faces west so we get the hot afternoon Florida sun streaming into the house. I have been thinking of solutions and that might work!
You are too cute.
I love your vlogs!!!! Reading your words always makes me happy, but seeing your cute mannerisms makes me happier. I just sit and giggle like a 6 yr old. Ok, busted……a 66 year old!!!!! Love that curtain idea!!!!!
OK…….re: suggestions…….pls pls pls let’s have a discussion about slipcovered sofas. I am going to buy one……but have no idea how to choose the good, better, best. At our house, it will be a “better”…..due to my wallet.
Please make this one of the topics.
P.S. I love your curtain closing noise!!!!! I like having some privacy too!!!! Our new home has a two way fireplace!!!! It stretches between the dining room and the master bedroom. My adult dau, who does not live with us, says that is just creepy. LOL. Living in our home, is me, Hubs, two doggies and the parrot. What’s to see? ?
LOVE IT! I’m curious where you go to be inspired. ??? IG, blogs, magazines, shops? Your blog has always been my favorite over the years – definitely a go-to I look forward to seeing each day. Inspiring.
Looks great! Layla, where did you purchase these curtains and do you have a favorite curtain source?
Thanks, Desseray! Here’s a link to my post about the curtains: https://theletteredcottage.net/curtains-and-rugs-vlog/
You’ll find my fav sources at the bottom of that post! XO
love the curtain rods too! can you remind us where you got those? and on a totally different subject – your eyewear – glasses – I am been shopping for those lately, and really like yours. Can you give out the brand on those? thanks for everything………
I love these. Not only do I like to hear what you’re talking about your sunny personality is a great start to the day.
Love it! Great idea and great solution! Can you tell me the color of your front door? I’m searching but not finding it (might be because I’m on my phone which is not the handiest!) Thank you and happy weekend to you!

Layla, I can’t tell you how much I love these vlogs. Your passion, creativity, and excitement is contagious! Plus your home is just off the charts amazing. 🙂 Thanks for being you!!!
i love your kitchen but since i’m new i would love to hear about tile..paint etc
I love these “vlogs” you’ve been doing! Your house is simply beautiful and I think you are just the cutest. ? Thanks for sharing with us!!
Love the paint color in your living room. What paint is that?
Love it Layla…in the Netherlands lots of people hang curtains in front of their doors. I hung them in front of my french door in our previous house as well. It adds such a homey touch. I am curious to know what you’ve done with the little walls you built on the dining room side. A vlog idea perhaps? And what are the dimensions of your living room and the size of your little walls and the opening? Have a great day!
I enjoy hearing the thought process behind your design ideas. It gets my wheels turning about my own design plans and helps me think outside the box.
I love “hearing” your thought process!!! Curtains look great!!
You and Kevin are so stinkin’ cute! I’m loving your vlogs!
Oh, Layla, you are just adorable. I want to be friends in real life.
Can’t wait to see you two as parents with Sweet P in your arms (you are already his parents.)
Thank you, Kristin. 🙂 If you ever find yourself near Montgomery, Alabama- we will DEFINITELY have to meet up! XO
Love it! It really works. Thanks for sharing.
Did you make your necklace or get it from Lucy?
I am also a HUGE fan of your vlogs. I have been reading your blog years and now to see your lovely personality shine through the videos is just an icing on the cake. You are so lovely and natural on camera and you two as a couple – ahhhh, swoon and sigh. Perfect! Keep them coming sister. Who cares about the topic – babble a long, we will listen.
Well that was awfully nice of you to say, Nanna! You are too kind, but I appreciate your encouragement so much! #DayMaker 🙂
I just LOVE your Vlog Vandredis, and all your fabulous ideas! Please keep them coming!
Where did you get your cute wood shelf?
It came from a local flea market, Lori. I couldn’t believe it was only marked $12!
Score! I love it! Would you mind sharing the dimensions of it?
I love your decorating style! Where did you get the cute shelf/coat rack? Love it!
I found that shelf/rack at a local flea market for $12 several years ago. I love it too!
Layla I love these vlogs I get so excited to see them. Can you do a virtual tour of the entire house PLEASE
I loved your video! You are so fun to watch! I really want to know where I could get the curtain rods that you have?!
I get ’em at Walmart, Emily! XO
I love “vlog” day!! Your personality shines on camera and I always leave inspired!! 🙂
I just love you!! : )
Thank you, sweet Peg! XO
Loving Vlog Vandredi!
I’d love to see a vlog or blog on decorating with/for our K9 friends. I recently got a puppy and could use some tips of what to/not to do. For instance, did you find when you first got your animals that you were selective one way or another with your design choices? How do you conceal all of their “stuff” (leashes, food, bowls, toys, etc)? Right now, I have baby gates up everywhere and as many chew toys as I could find spread throughout the house for his chewing pleasure in hopes that he doesn’t get a hold of my furniture.
Thanks! And, hope you have a great weekend!
Cute idea but would not work for me as the cats would think they were for climbing!
Thankfully, Kit-Cat is more interested in scaling our kitchen cabinets than climbing our curtains! 😀
Our cats have no interest in climbing our curtains. I wish that were true of every thing else.
Loving the vlogs!!! I agree with keeping them coming! 🙂
You’re such a doll and brilliant!
Makes sense and looks lovely. Thanks for sharing!
Love the vlogs! You are so sweet!
“handy dandy no more slammy” you crack me up. How do you come up with these? ?
I tried searching the Internet everywhere and couldn’t find the answer I was looking for: where do you get your curtain rods? I just bought a new house and I need curtains ASAP! That being said I’m thinking of doing dark rods bc he house is so light and bright (yay!)
Just scroll up to Desseray’s question near the top of this thread and you’ll find my response with a link to the post about the rods. (Spoiler alert: they’re from Walmart!) 😉
I just love your VLOGS! I’ve been reading your blog for years and feel like I know you and Kevin so it’s so fun seeing this other side of you! Keep em coming 😉
Oh, I love your necklace too!
You are so fun to watch! And your home is just so beautiful and comfortable, such a fun inspiration.
I’m like a lot of folks here, never thought to put curtains around the door but I like the look. I also like the look of a coat or hat rack next to the door, I always have, it add character, as long as you keep it neat, LOL 🙂
Thanks for the ideas,
I agree, looks great! Here in the UK this is pretty normal to put curtains above doors due to the rather chilly weather.. it make great insulation! Loving how beautiful your living space is coming together 😉 such talent
Can I ask where u got your wood floors are they laminate or wood. They are so pretty I love the color I think they would be perfect for my little cottage which tends to be dark in day light. Thanks for info in advance. I love your blog and everything you do to your home.
