How I Dressed My Front Door (vlog)

Nov 12, 2015 By Layla

It’s “Vlog Vandredi”!ย For all my French-speaking readers, yes, they spell Vandredi with an “a” in Haitian Creole. For all my English-only speaking readers, Vandredi means “Friday” in my Sweet P’s birth country. ๐Ÿ™‚

Today’s vlog is about the curtains around our front door. Click the play button to watch…

I also should’ve mentioned that since the wall those curtains are on is the same wall that flows into the living room, I really liked the idea of treating all five openings the same way. I don’t have curtains on the rods in the living room yet, but you get the idea, right?

Curtains For Front Door | The Lettered Cottage

Alright- who has an idea for next week’s vlog? I’m all ears if you want to throw out another design-related question or comment we can chat about!

PS- I’m thinking I might post more than just my Friday vlog over on my YouTube channel, so if you’d like to watch any additional videos I upload, just click through this link: YouTube.com/TheLetteredCottage and click the little red “subscribe” button to be notified whenever a new one pops up! (Thank you for having fun with me this way, y’all! XO)

Hi Layla, I would have never thought to put curtains around the door, but it really works. Very inspiring!

Love the look Layla! I tried curtains in an archway across from my front door, but they didn’t seem right…maybe it’s time for a redo?
    Have a great day!

Layla, your vlogs are the best idea ever! You’re so natural in front of the camera – I feel like I’m having a conversation with you. And – you make me laugh -keep it up!

      Layla,

I love your vlogs and your style. I would really love for you to chat about curating your decor and how you do it so successfully. I have so many things that I love. I seem to end up with too many things on display and it feels too dense and heavy. Any tips on how to be more selective would be greatly appreciated. It would also be great to see how you store your decor pieces when not in use.

      Thanks,
      Leslie

    You are too cute.

That is an interesting idea. We have a glass front door that faces west so we get the hot afternoon Florida sun streaming into the house. I have been thinking of solutions and that might work!

I love your vlogs!!!! Reading your words always makes me happy, but seeing your cute mannerisms makes me happier. I just sit and giggle like a 6 yr old. Ok, busted……a 66 year old!!!!! Love that curtain idea!!!!!
OK…….re: suggestions…….pls pls pls let’s have a discussion about slipcovered sofas. I am going to buy one……but have no idea how to choose the good, better, best. At our house, it will be a “better”…..due to my wallet.
Please make this one of the topics.

P.S. I love your curtain closing noise!!!!! I like having some privacy too!!!! Our new home has a two way fireplace!!!! It stretches between the dining room and the master bedroom. My adult dau, who does not live with us, says that is just creepy. LOL. Living in our home, is me, Hubs, two doggies and the parrot. What’s to see? ?

Love it Layla…in the Netherlands lots of people hang curtains in front of their doors. I hung them in front of my french door in our previous house as well. It adds such a homey touch. I am curious to know what you’ve done with the little walls you built on the dining room side. A vlog idea perhaps? And what are the dimensions of your living room and the size of your little walls and the opening? Have a great day!

    • Layla

It came from a local flea market, Lori. I couldn’t believe it was only marked $12!

    Loving Vlog Vandredi!
I’d love to see a vlog or blog on decorating with/for our K9 friends. I recently got a puppy and could use some tips of what to/not to do. For instance, did you find when you first got your animals that you were selective one way or another with your design choices? How do you conceal all of their “stuff” (leashes, food, bowls, toys, etc)? Right now, I have baby gates up everywhere and as many chew toys as I could find spread throughout the house for his chewing pleasure in hopes that he doesn’t get a hold of my furniture.
Thanks! And, hope you have a great weekend!

Cute idea but would not work for me as the cats would think they were for climbing!

    • Layla

      Nov 13, 2015 at 12:19 pm

      Ha!
Thankfully, Kit-Cat is more interested in scaling our kitchen cabinets than climbing our curtains! ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Sylvia

        Nov 14, 2015 at 10:25 pm

Our cats have no interest in climbing our curtains. I wish that were true of every thing else.

I tried searching the Internet everywhere and couldn’t find the answer I was looking for: where do you get your curtain rods? I just bought a new house and I need curtains ASAP! That being said I’m thinking of doing dark rods bc he house is so light and bright (yay!)

Just scroll up to Desseray’s question near the top of this thread and you’ll find my response with a link to the post about the rods. (Spoiler alert: they’re from Walmart!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hi Layla,

I’m like a lot of folks here, never thought to put curtains around the door but I like the look. I also like the look of a coat or hat rack next to the door, I always have, it add character, as long as you keep it neat, LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks for the ideas,
    Elizabeth

I agree, looks great! Here in the UK this is pretty normal to put curtains above doors due to the rather chilly weather.. it make great insulation! Loving how beautiful your living space is coming together ๐Ÿ˜‰ such talent

Can I ask where u got your wood floors are they laminate or wood. They are so pretty I love the color I think they would be perfect for my little cottage which tends to be dark in day light. Thanks for info in advance. I love your blog and everything you do to your home.
    Thank you
    Sheila
