“The art of feeling happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.”
-Henry Ward Beecher
I decided to go for it.
No charcoal gray though. Nope- I decided to go with a sort of “dusty blueberry” instead. It’s called Distance (Sherwin-Williams) and it sure makes me feel happy. 🙂
PS- Just a quick heads up, Kevin’s running a 50% off sale over at ShootFlyShoot.com on Monday and Tuesday (the 25th and 26th) for anyone interested in learning how to use a DSLR camera or photo editing program. Click on the banner below to check out the new site!

Mandy
Colour looks fab, prefer it to the grey, although I love grey too, this seems to have a bit more personality.
Victoria
Much better than the grey IMO. It goes well with the new colour for the secretary.
Heather
Love this color! It’s such a beautiful compliment to your backsplash tile 🙂
Nikki
I love how it pulls out the other blues in the room!
joanne

It looks so happy 🙂 Good job!!! I’ve wanted to paint the inside of our door for 3 years, just haven’t found the nerve. I love that you just DID it!!!
Tanya
Love that color! It really is happy, and it makes everything else around it look brighter.
Carol
What exterior door colour did your neighbours decide on?
Melissa
Lovely!
Laura
I love your blog, but it’s hard to follow in feedly as your pictures are always broken. Will you be fixing this at some point?
Layla
Hi Laura!
I don’t use Feedly so I’m not sure what you mean. Can you describe what’s happening on your screen so I can ask my web tech? Thanks for the heads up! XO
Deborah Raney
That blueberry color is PERFECTION! Love the whole room, and especially how adding those narrow walls gave you new spaces to decorate! Love your blog!
Pamela-FromMyFrontPorchToYours
Love it! I am a blue and green gal myself.
Lorraine R
What a perfect color!!!!!!!!!
Susan_W
love this so much. As I said in your charcoal post, I trust whatever you decide will be amazing, and it is… I admit that the charcoal seemed harsh in your color scheme and this is so much softer and oh so pretty! love love love
jenngchicago
Looks great! Do you happen to know the manufacturer/style name of your door?
Jenn A
Looks fabulous!
Colette

Amy
See, I knew you’d do a fantastic job at choosing a great color.
It’s fabulous!
Jude-Mom
Lovely! It does look like a dusty blueberry! I was out picking a bowlful this morning : )
Michelle
LOVE the blue – so much brighter than the ‘almost’ gray – good choice!
Laurie
Love your pretty blue door so much!! It’s so cheery and yet still classic. We have a blue front door too, and it brings a smile to my face : )
Kay
Well, this is certainly timely, for me, anyway! We have a Dutch colonial with a white 1st story exterior + light gray 2nd — + yes, we think it’s as charming as it can be! However, last year I painted our exterior doors black. They pop, alright, but they’re just not as welcoming as the rest of our house! Time to head to the Benjamin Moore place in town + see about something in a pale blue! TY for the inspiration!
Christy fewell
Did you paint the outside of the door too? If so, what color is your home? Can we see that in a picture as well?
Love reading your blog.
Thank you,
Christy
Ginger
LOVE the door color! Great choice!!
Mindy
What a sweet combination of colors!
Meaghan
I love those colours together! You have given us a lot of great ideas! I love bright rooms and am turning our house more and more to be like that! What is the colour of your wall?
Marie P.
Beautiful color! A nice contrast, but soothing, too. And just in time for blueberry season!!
Margi
Uh.Oh. Do you think it’s too late to tell hubby (now that our front door has been completely re-finished) that I much prefer this colour instead ? 🙂
Dianne
Could we please see the door from the outside. Did you paint it the same color?
Layla
Hi Dianne!
Here’s a link to the post I published about the front porch. We haven’t done any painting/work out there yet.

Maybe next year…or the year after. 😉
Dawna
I love what you went with! What a great color….looks awesome!
Amy
I am going to use this color in my sunroom. I love it. Thanks for sharing this with us.
What is the paint color on the walls surrounding it? I like that as well.
Amy
P.S. I meant, what is the wall color surrounding the door?
Krista
Love the door! And thanks for posting the sale at Shoot Fly Shoot. I’ve been contemplating signing up for awhile now and just took advantage of the sale and signed up for the Photography 101 & 102 bundle. Excited to get started!
Judy
Love it Layla! It makes me happy too!!!
Wendy Gleaves
Do you have any tips on painting a front door? I have tried before and looked streaky and took forever to dry.
Layla
We just used a paintbrush, Wendy. A roller might have made for a smoother finish? I think making sure one coat is dry before you paint on the next, is a good thing to keep in mind, too.
Jill Brook
Hi! Do you know the name of the color used for the secretary that’s in the room by the door painted with SW’s Distance?
Thanks so much.
Jill
hello haha narf
GREAT color!!
Moe
I love the cute little cabinet. Any chance you painted it yourself so that you can tell me what color it is? Thanks!
Leslie
Do you mean the secretary? She just re-painted it Sherwin Williams Coastal Plain. See Layla’s entry dated 5/17/15
Lauren Baxter
