Front Door Facelift

May 21, 2015 By Layla

“The art of feeling happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.”
-Henry Ward Beecher

Diamond

I decided to go for it.

Distance by Sherwin Williams | Cottage | Farmhouse | Dining Room | Entry

No charcoal gray though. Nope- I decided to go with a sort of “dusty blueberry” instead. It’s called Distance (Sherwin-Williams) and it sure makes me feel happy. 🙂

PS- Just a quick heads up, Kevin’s running a 50% off sale over at ShootFlyShoot.com on Monday and Tuesday (the 25th and 26th) for anyone interested in learning how to use a DSLR camera or photo editing program. Click on the banner below to check out the new site!

Colour looks fab, prefer it to the grey, although I love grey too, this seems to have a bit more personality.

I love your blog, but it’s hard to follow in feedly as your pictures are always broken. Will you be fixing this at some point?

    • Layla

      May 22, 2015 at 7:51 am

      Hi Laura!

I don’t use Feedly so I’m not sure what you mean. Can you describe what’s happening on your screen so I can ask my web tech? Thanks for the heads up! XO

That blueberry color is PERFECTION! Love the whole room, and especially how adding those narrow walls gave you new spaces to decorate! Love your blog!

love this so much. As I said in your charcoal post, I trust whatever you decide will be amazing, and it is… I admit that the charcoal seemed harsh in your color scheme and this is so much softer and oh so pretty! love love love

Love your pretty blue door so much!! It’s so cheery and yet still classic. We have a blue front door too, and it brings a smile to my face : )

Well, this is certainly timely, for me, anyway! We have a Dutch colonial with a white 1st story exterior + light gray 2nd — + yes, we think it’s as charming as it can be! However, last year I painted our exterior doors black. They pop, alright, but they’re just not as welcoming as the rest of our house! Time to head to the Benjamin Moore place in town + see about something in a pale blue! TY for the inspiration!

Did you paint the outside of the door too? If so, what color is your home? Can we see that in a picture as well?

    Love reading your blog.

    Thank you,
    Christy

I love those colours together! You have given us a lot of great ideas! I love bright rooms and am turning our house more and more to be like that! What is the colour of your wall?

  34. Marie P.

    May 22, 2015 at 5:22 pm

Beautiful color! A nice contrast, but soothing, too. And just in time for blueberry season!!

Uh.Oh. Do you think it’s too late to tell hubby (now that our front door has been completely re-finished) that I much prefer this colour instead ? 🙂

  36. Dianne

    May 22, 2015 at 8:27 pm

Could we please see the door from the outside. Did you paint it the same color?

    • Layla

      May 23, 2015 at 11:17 am

      Hi Dianne!

Here’s a link to the post I published about the front porch. We haven’t done any painting/work out there yet.

What is the paint color on the walls surrounding it? I like that as well.

  39. Amy

    May 24, 2015 at 8:48 am

P.S. I meant, what is the wall color surrounding the door?

Love the door! And thanks for posting the sale at Shoot Fly Shoot. I’ve been contemplating signing up for awhile now and just took advantage of the sale and signed up for the Photography 101 & 102 bundle. Excited to get started!

Do you have any tips on painting a front door? I have tried before and looked streaky and took forever to dry.

    • Layla

      May 26, 2015 at 1:48 pm

We just used a paintbrush, Wendy. A roller might have made for a smoother finish? I think making sure one coat is dry before you paint on the next, is a good thing to keep in mind, too.

Hi! Do you know the name of the color used for the secretary that’s in the room by the door painted with SW’s Distance?

        Thanks so much.

Do you mean the secretary? She just re-painted it Sherwin Williams Coastal Plain. See Layla’s entry dated 5/17/15
