Well, were able to find all the flooring we needed- hooray! 😀
It took lots and LOTS of phone calls, and going through countless emails and direct messages to figure out which stores had it in stock, and which stores would ship it us, but we got r’ dun and there are 47 boxes of item #9497 on the way- whew!
What’s that? You thought I only needed 17 boxes? Well, turns out, I actually needed 21 to finish the first floor and I decided to go ahead and get enough to install upstairs at some point too. That way, the whole entire house will have the exact same type of flooring, which is always fun.
I ended up getting 6 boxes from Charleston, SC, 12 boxes from Brenham, Texas, 12 boxes from Frisco, Texas, 15 boxes from Allen, Texas and 2 boxes from Monroe, North Carolina. And here’s the really fun part: since so much of is was marked down to $10.78/box, I was able to get all 47 additional boxes for almost the SAME PRICE I paid for the first (full price) 13 boxes I had here at the house. AMAZING!
Anywho- I’m looking forward to sharing some photos of it installed last this week, but in the meantime, just know I’m doing lots of happy dances on item #9497 over here! 😀
In non-flooring related news, have y’all tried Postagram? I saw an ad for it on Instagram a few weeks back and was instantly intrigued. In a nutshell, (and no, this is not a sponsored shout-out…I just genuinely love the service!) you download their app to your smartphone and use it to choose a postcard background. After that, you upload a photo from your camera roll, type out your message & address information, and pay ($2) for it to be mailed to the recipient. The two-dollar price tag might sound hefty to some, but I think it’s a super fun, once-in-a-while kind of thing and the photo pops out, so there’s a keepsake aspect too. Also, because it was such a convenient and quick process, I was able to surprise my mom with a message and photo from her grandson that I probably wouldn’t have if that ad hadn’t popped up right when it did.
Just thought I’d share in case it sounds fun to you too!

So glad you found your flooring! It almost feels like winning the lottery when you make a big find like that! When I bought an end table at Home Goods, they only had one and I knew it was going to be hard to find another one at another Home Goods. I must have gone to 3 different stores within a 25 mile radius and the last store there’s it was! I let out a small scream and realized I must have looked very stupid, but hey, it was worth it!!

Just curious- are putting laminate over wood floors? Thanks!
Layla
Yep! The engineered hardwood flooring was here when we bought the place (it’s not something we would’ve chosen), and unfortunately, 12 years later, it’s quite damaged & discolored in several places throughout the house. Sanding it down and re-staining it a lighter color isn’t an option for us because we live in the house (along with our recently adopted six year old son and my recently moved in elderly in-laws) and that would involve re-locating for several days or weeks (?) which isn’t an option for us. It’s totally okay because I’m not a fan of the grain on the engineered wood anyway, and because it’s such a soft wood, it would just continue to get deeply scratched and dented anytime anyone moves anything across it. If it was historic wood, that would be a different story, but this is engineered wood and doesn’t seem to “age” as well when “character” gets added. 😉
We moved in nearly six years ago, but we’re still having fun personalizing the place (especially now that we have 3 new family members under our roof) and laying down a floor that looks perfect, stands up to wear and tear, AND matches what Jim & Katie have in their side of the house feels like the right move for us. And paying the mortgage is a whole lot more fun when you love where you live, ya know? 😀
Also, if someone else lives here in the (very distant) future, they’re welcome to remove our floating floor and have the engineered hardwood flooring sanded and re-stained. We’ll just be protecting it for them in the meantime. 😉

So glad you found your flooring. I know what it’s like to be on a mission like that. I truly enjoyed your instastory updates – it was the best “show” I’ve watched in a while. 😉 Can’t wait to see it all installed in your gorgeous home.
Kathy
That was quite the journey! I think we were all pretty invested. I checked with the four stores in my area because it would have been awesome to help you out. So glad the story has such a happy ending. Too bad the flooring isn’t still available though. So pretty. Can’t wait to see it in your house. Thanks for taking us along!
Kim
Based on all of this I would hope the company would see and realize they need to make this flooring again! Can’t wait to see it all finished, too. Let us know how it’s going down over the current floors. I have engineered hardwood in my almost 3 yr old home…and I don’t like the color and softness of the wood. Bummer to spend that much $$ and not like it! So I harbor secret plans to have it replaced somehow 🙂
Amy
Hallelujah!! I was updating my instastories all day wanting all the updates! SO glad you were able to get it all!! Can’t wait to see the end result!!
Also postagram sounds really cool!

How exciting! Just a question, for wayyyyyy down the road. I thought you mentioned at one point, making your current kitchen a sitting room. If down the road, you relocate the kitchen to where the kitchenette currently is, are you all getting extra flooring with that in mind? Or do you think by the time you get to that phase you would redo the flooring?
You all have such creativity, & it’s great to see you maximize your house in terms of how you decorate, but also its heartwarming to see you living such love with all the generations. Congrats on getting all the flooring! And for a steal!
Layla
Hi! Yes! I made sure to plenty of extra boxes for when we have to patch places down the road. 🙂

My husband and I have a 100 acre farm 12 miles from Brenham, TX. I’ll be sure to look for a different wood flooring when renovating the 100yr old farmhouse 😜 Glad they were able to help you out!

Wow! That was SOME exciting and tense hours! I watched the instagram stories, waiting for the next, and the next, and the next, to see if you had succeded! First thing this morning I checked to see if you had posted a HURRAH!, but nope, not yet. Just got a chance to check again now……so glad you found it, got the bargain price and will be floor-happy soon! But now what will I do for entertainment?
Mandy

The best, most hilarious process I’ve gotten to enjoy in a while! Thanks for all the giggles and glad you found your floor!!
Karen
So glad it all worked out! I realize the process must have been so nerve wracking for you, but it was so entertaining for us. Plus we, or at least I, felt like we were needed in this desperate search for #9497.
Ali
I am so happy for you ! This flooring sounds perfect ! Great style and great price !
Love that you live in the “real world” when it comes to design and budgets!
This flooring will look incredible !! Celebrating your happiness !
Love your style !

Will you show how you handle covering the stairs at some point? I, too, have dark/glossy/damaged engineered hardwood and we don’t have any wood flooring upstairs but the stairs themselves are wood. I can see painting them and adding a runner in our situation but if you plan to continue the laminate upstairs I’m wondering how you tie that together? A floating floor would have never occurred to me but your chcoice is beautiful! We did a peel and stick luxury vinyl in hickory in our last bathroom and adored it.
Christina Stoever
What was the name of the flooring you used? #9497 but what was the color?
Layla
Antique Hickory! 🙂
