We’re starting a project that I’m a little nervous about this week.
It’s flooring related and the reason I’m nervous is because we don’t actually have enough of the particular style of flooring that we’ll be installing all day tomorrow. :-/
It’s the same laminate flooring Kevin’s parents used in their side of the house, and we’ve been collecting additional boxes of it over the past several months, but we’re still 17 boxes short. Apparently it’s being discontinued, and here’s the extra fun part: none of the stores around us have any more in stock. 🙁 Nope. Apparently, there are 33 boxes of it in Jacksonville though, so I’m going to give them a call this morning and I’m crossing my fingers they’ll agree to ship it. I’ll keep you posted! 🙂
After we get all the flooring installed (that’s me, thinking positively 😉 ) we’re going to finish up the Billy bookcase project we started a while back.
And then I think I’m going to use some of Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint to create an chippy finish on the big cabinet we built for Kevin’s guitars and some of my decor stuff:
I’m thinking of mixing up one of her white colors and not using the bonding agent so that it chips off in big chunks like this:
I think it’ll be fun to have the pale blue-gray as the base coat, and to give the piece a little more old-fashioned country style character.
Well, I’m off to talk to a man about a floor. Wish me luck!

Don’t forget…I’m your gal if you need help getting it from Jacksonville!

Thank you, Kristy!

Try Annie Sloane chalk paint. It’s superior to MMS.

Oh, that’s like comparing apples to oranges. They each provide a totally different result and for this particular project, it’s the milk paint effect I’m after! 🙂

Isn’t that the way, the best stuff always gets discontinued. I can’t tell you how many times that’s happened to me. Here’s an idea if Jacksonville doesn’t have it… Find something similar enough and intersperse those planks throughout. Love your ideas and your home. Hey you should shoot a video of that chippy paint technique. I am wanting to do that on a piece I’m working on. Picked up a king size poster bed footboard and turned it into a sofa/console table over the weekend. I’ve wanted a chunky 2 leg console table for awhile but couldn’t afford the posts that I liked(either new or salvaged). But found this good-boned cast-off furniture that did the trick for $40. I have a little experience with chalk paint but haven’t tried a real chippy technique before. I could search YouTube….but I trust you 😉

Looking forward to seeing your progress, hope Jacksonville comes thru! Cabinet plans sound great, interested to see how your paint turns out. I love the vintage doors you used in Steevenson’s room and the tip to keep chippy paint from peeling!

Sure hope you’re able to find the rest of the flooring. Also, What is the name of the pale-blue grey paint color on that door? Is it a mixture of Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paints? It’s beautiful. 🙂

I can check the Lowes near me in MN! What is the flooring product number?
Terri Sullivan
Fingers crossed that you can get the flooring!
Donna
Good luck with Lowes. Maybe they will ship it to the store near you for free. Hey a girl
can always hope. Or “road trip”.

Young House Love wanted a specific door, and put a “call” out to their readers, and actually got a door picked up in PA and delivered to them in VA by a reader who was traveling between the 2 areas. Maybe try something similar on all your social media channels? A few boxes here and there, it adds up!

Maybe a larger search area would help. You could crowd source this to your followers – if some of us bought just one box locally and shipped it…. 🙂 I, for one, would be willing to help!

Oh friend… we had a similar issue… bought a house thinking we would match the laminate floors… couldn’t do it, so we ended up having to floor the whole thing with something else! Then, before we could finish the project, they discontinued what we had chosen! We got as much as we could from our local Lowe’s (3 of them within 30 miles of us) and then drove 3 plus hours to a store that still had it… whew!
Marianne in Mo.
I hope you got my e mail yesterday. Checked our local stores here, (Mo.) and the store in Chesterfield Mo. had 30+ “pieces”, but I don’t know if that meant individual or boxes. Will they ship between stores? Hoping by now you have had success in locating what you need though.

One box in Little Elm, TX!

Hi, Layla.
Just now reading this blog and catching up. Where did you purchase your tall cabinet that you want to paint? (For musical equipment)? Any info would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi Ruth!
I designed it and had it built by a carpenter friend.
