Hello and Happy New Year’s Eve!
Did you have a nice Christmas? We spent a couple of super fun days at my mom’s in Florida and then had a nice, low-key Christmas Eve and Christmas Day here at home with Kevin’s side of the family. This week, we’re slowly but surely un-decking the halls, but because it finally feels like a fun time to do it, I thought I’d snap and share a few photos of our Christmas decorating this year:
We’re still not done adding reclaimed wood and hardware to those cabinets in the second photo, and we’ve still got a few more corbels to add to the doorways in the photo above (see the one there in the upper right hand corner of that pic?), but we’ll get to those projects when we get to them. Right now we’re focusing our attention on a few things upstairs! 🙂
The new flooring is being laid as I type, and then we’ve got some reeeeeally fun to assemble for Steevenson tomorrow.
I’ll blog about the whole room re-do once we’ve got it pulled together. I’m working with Beddy’s Bedding and Lull Mattresses on the project, so although I usually don’t feel the need to rush these kinds of things, I’m contractually obligated to finish this room makeover in January- ha!
Oh, and if you missed my first post about the flooring, we fell in love with Swiftlock Laminate in the color Antique Hickory after seeing it in Jess Wasserman’s house on Instagram. We used it in the Bungalow Barn, and then on the first floor of our house, and now we’re finally getting it installed upstairs. Here’s a photo that shows how we’re just layering it right on top of our existing (damaged, discolored) engineered hardwood:
Unfortunately, it’s discontinued now, but I bought up every box I could find (across the whole nation!) so we’d have extra in case we ever spring a leak and need to replace any. If you’re in the market for something similar, I blogged about some alternate options here: Affordable, Durable, Easy-To-Install (and Remove!) Flooring
I look forward to sharing some more photos of our progress next year!
Get it? ‘Cause tomorrow is….okay bye. 😉
Layla
PS- I edited the photos in this post by playing around with my friend Liz’s Lightroom presets. I love the layer of bright n’ cozy they add!

I always love looking at your pics. The bunk beds look like they’ll be adorable. I spied something in the first picture that I would love to know where you got it. It appears to be a rectangular glass bos that hangs on the wall. There’s a clock and a book among other things in it.
Thank you, Connie! Here’s a link to that shelf:
Can’t wait to see the afters! Those bunk beds are awesome! Like an indoor playground loft! Cheers! Here’s to a new year filled with happiness!
Thank you, Karlene! Right back atcha!
Just LOVELY, and actually you could leave all of that up for some yummy winter cozy!!!
I remember your stories when you were searching all over the nation for that wood floor, so fun to seeing it in your beautiful home!!
Happy New Year!
Lisa
You may have covered this in a previous post, but what method did you use to layer the gallery items in the living room? I want to redo a long wall in our living room, but it is a walkway, so traditional shelves cannot be used. I love the style of your living room with the layered look. Thank you!
That’s some awesome Christmas decorations here. I regret not seeing them earlier so we can include them in our roundup Christmas decoration posts. You could easily switch from Christmas to winter decor – it’s so fresh and inviting.
What are these big white tree ornaments? Are they a DIY project?
They’re just paper snowflakes I cut out of copy paper. Thanks for swinging by and your sweet words! 🙂
You are welcome! 🙂
Just shared your bathroom cottage makeover post and you should see a lot more visitors to it. By the way, I’ve sent you an email, please check your inbox for details.
Wow! So beautiful and classy! A fresh take on a classic Christmas look. Love it!
I know this is a late comment but I love the low key – fresh and clean look of your decorations. I have been in a less is more mode for a few years now and I love the understated yet lovely-as-usual look you created.
Hi Layla,
I forgot to ask you or your followers if anyone has seen a company that sells templates for gallery walls? I saw one a few years ago but did not save the company name. I do not have an eye for that like you do and would love looking at templates and then I could adjust.
Thank you and Happy New Year
