Bungalow Barn Update: Barn Red Paint

Aug 11, 2016 By Layla

It’s FriYAY!!!!! 😀

Kevin and I are in full-on cleaning/packing/running errand mode, but I wanted to share a fun update about the Bungalow Barn today. It’s got a new coat, y’all…Benjamin Moore’s Caliente!

Barn House Addition | In Progress | TheLetteredCottage.net

Excuse the temporary overhead power line, the still-not-fixed barn doors on the end of the barn (they were supposed to be X’ed, not filled with board & batten), and the extra brick that was delivered by mistake. And speaking of works in progress, one day we’ll add a small deck around the breakfast room/entry, too.

I’m so excited to see what it all looks like when our house is painted white! I used Photoshop to alter the photo above, just to see what it’s going to look like when we get home from Haiti:

Here’s a closer-up look at the breakfast room/entry:

I hadn’t really thought about what color the back door would be until I snapped that picture earlier this week. What do you think? Black? Blue?

(Added some more grass in there just for kicks, too!)

Another color? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I think the black door grounds all the colors. The whole thing — house, barn addition, etc. — is FANTASTIC!!!

Ask Sonny! Maybe you want to offer him a choice of paint chips, but what a great way to involve him in his new home!

Blue wins for me… maybe even a touch more navy to be more crisp with the other sharp white and red colors!!! PLus you’d be very all-American!!

I love the red! Caliente is the perfect way to describe it. I go for a black door. Very classic. Can’t wait to get a final tour.

I don’t comment much. I have been lurking around though and enjoying the process. I like red doors. 🙂 But, if you aren’t excited about a red door with the red barn next door, the black is really nice. 🙂 Looking good!

i vote bright yellow for door!! parents will be looking out the windows…happy color for them to see!

    Aug 12, 2016 at 10:40 am

I’d do the blue to match the window frame on the left so there’s a striping effect.

      Aug 12, 2016 at 10:50 am

Oh, that window frame isn’t blue, IronGirlTrixie. It’s just got one coat of white paint on it. Must be an optical illusion! 🙂

How about a mix between black and blue = navy blue?

  23. Sarah

Let Sonny pick the door color. He’s the same age as my son and it’s amazing how much pride my son has in the things he’s involved in around our house. 🙂

Looking so fine! I like blue door.

The black IS classic, of course, but this is a family farmhouse and I think the blue speaks to happy childhood memories. I’d give Sonny the vote and I’m keeping my fingers crossed he’ll choose the blue. Every prayer for the “soon-ness” of his arrival.

    The black really pops!

  32. Shawnda

I’m liking the blue door…it shows off the mullions better. 🙂 I do love the red (although I wonder if your neighbors have any issues with bright colors). I thought I liked it with the tan house color, but with the white, it’s divine.

I like the blue. Have you given any thought at all to a soft, golden yellow? Just a thought!

  34. Belle

    Aug 12, 2016 at 11:22 am

BLUE! The black makes it look like a deep, dark hole! Definitely that pretty, sunny blue.

  35. Carol

    Aug 12, 2016 at 11:27 am

Definitely the Caliente red for the door would really pop with the white.

I think you nailed the red paint color. I also like the two paint colors you are considering for the door. I think the stained wood door on this page would look good as well. Scroll down to the brown door on the white porch with the 32 on the porch post. http://proverbs31girl.com/how-to-paint-an-exterior-door-to-make-it-look-like-wood/

I vote for a black door because although the blue is pretty, the blue gets lost in my opinion. Loving the barn addition!

  46. Angela

    Aug 12, 2016 at 1:12 pm

    Navy blue or black

  47. Valerie

    Aug 12, 2016 at 1:22 pm

Looks amazing! I would go with a deep navy or black!

Here are a few Benjamine Moore colors that would work. In the blue family CW-590 or AF- 505.
    A charcoal color AF-560.
