DIY Flower Frog Easel

Feb 3, 2015 By Layla

Thank you for leaving so many kind comments on my last post! What a Gift to be able to share our adoption journey here! It’s hard to believe we’ll finally be able to love on our boy at the end of this month. Needless to say, I can hardly sit still right now. I feel like I want to be doing something every moment of the day…so much nervous/excited energy!

We started building the dividing wall between the living room and dining room/kitchen this morning, and I’m looking forward to blogging about how that’s coming together on Friday.

Today, I wanted to share a simple, cottage-style decor project I put together with a $3 flower frog.

Green Flower Frog

Have I ever told you I’ve got a thing for flower frogs?

I figured out that the openings in mine were the perfect size to hold a pencil…

…and I have this little box of pop-open cards that I love, but that I haven’t figured out how to (temporarily) display them after I open them:

Seeing the pencil standing straight up triggered an idea, so I dug around for my craft putty…

…and stuck a little bit to the back of the card I opened this week.

After that, I stuck the card onto the front of the pencil and voila! An “easel”! 😀

Boy, isn’t that the truth? 😀

And speaking of things that make me happy…

Reflections in Glass Doors

I spy a Daddy playing his guitar, and a Kit-Cat watching me work! 😀

PS- I had some extra Don’t Quit Your Daydream t-shirts that I had ordered incorrectly at one point last year, so I listed them on BlogThreads.com today. The proceeds from all sales will go towards our two-week socialization trip to Haiti at the end of the month, so thank you to anyone who decides to pick one up! XO

Sure wish you had those shirts in something besides blue! Love the sentiment. Best wishes to you and your son.

Still smiling for you, Layla. I have that exact flower frog on my desk holding pencils (mine is a little more rusty – yours is in great shape). I love flower frogs as well.

It took me so long to find Kit-Cat in that picture lol. I hope my eyes don’t stick this way 😉

Layla – I can’t remember. Will this be the first time you’ve ever seen Sweet P, or have you been able to see him and hold him and love on him before? Can you give us a quick run down again of your adoption journey?? Blessings!!

I love flower frogs as well. My mother is Japanese and uses them to arrange flowers. As a little girl I was fascinated with them.

And I love you are on your way to collect and distribute hugs soon!

My oldest son is headed to Haiti in March to serve on a team with Healing Haiti. It might be silly, but it makes me feel like we have some small something in common. Thinking of you and your son every time I think of Haiti. Praying that your trip will be wonderful.

Welcome, Mattie! Thank you for the kind comment- I’m so pleased to e-meet you today!
The part of the photo that is in focus is my husband, Kevin. If you look directly below him, you can see Kit-Cat’s reflection. He’s a black and white “tuxedo” cat. 🙂

Now I know where all the new quotes at the top of your post are coming from. And thanks to the link you provided I went and bought a “Be Happy” book. It also took me a LONG time to see Kit-Cat in the photo. Happy week to you.

Happy week to you too, Alison! 😀 The quotes I post actually come from all different places, but that little box is full of them too! XO

    Hi Layla,

    I love the frog idea.
I have never commented on your blog before-but have been reading for quite sometime. I love your adoption story and am so anxious for you; I have a Korean brother that was adopted at age 6-what a blessing adoption is. I look forward to the day Sweet P is with y’all! 🙂 (I am a fellow Minnesota girl-so I enjoy that part of your life too.)

I finally was able to buy a shirt and this one happens to be my fav of the ones you’ve done so far! Won’t fit me but I’m going to make a cushion for the couch out of it. Good luck on your Haiti trip so happy for you!
