If you’re thinking about taking a road trip with your girlfriends, and you like shopping for previously-loved goods- you’ve got to hit the 127 Corridor sale next year!
Me and mine had an absolute blast last week/weekend, and I am definitely going to go again in 2014! (Remind me to pull a trailer next time- ha!)
Mary Kay and I got some great stuff for our booths at The Chapel Market and man was she fun to shop with! Total pro yard sale-r. (Ki, too!) I also learned some important tips along the way that I wanted to share with you here:
1) Never go “sale-ing” without water. I didn’t drink enough on Day 1 of our trip, and went to bed with a bad headache that night. I made sure to down several bottles on Day 2 and felt great from dawn ’til done!
2) Sometimes, as a driver, you’ll have to concentrate extra-hard on the road directly in front of you. The interstates were great, and the yard sale traffic wasn’t too bad, but the yard sale route through Tennessee and northern Alabama is fairly steep and curvy. Pair that terrain with cars that, at any moment, might want to pull over and shop and you’ve got a slightly more challenging driving situation than you might be used to. My advice- leave the navigating to the person in your passenger seat. Put them in charge of everything from mapping out your route, to telling you when to turn, to spotting places to stop. And if you’re looking for items in particular, tell them what they are so they can keep their eyes peeled for those kinds of things while you concentrate on the road.
3)Â Always brake for deep-fried peaches sprinkled with powder sugar!
Hope to see you at the World’s Longest Yard Sale next year!

Sounds so fun! Great tips. How far north did you travel? I live in Michigan and want to try the north to south next year.
Layla
Hi Robbin! We drove up to Signal Mountain, TN and started there. We made our way south to Gadsden, AL and saw LOTS of great “junk”! 🙂 Hope to see you along the way next year!
Marianne in Mo.
Ooo, that’s on my bucket list! Fried peaches you say? Sounds amazing! I made a peach crisp last night. Guess it’s a peach-fest all over!

I’ve been loving seeing your instagram posts! This is such a fun idea!

I have heard of this sale before, but never when the dates are. If you could let us know a few weeks or months before, that would be great. I would love to do this with a couple of girlfriends next year.
Layla
Hi Kim!
Their website actually already has them listed as August 7-10, 2014! 🙂

Happy sale-ing!

Hi Layla,
I’ve done the longest yard sale for two years and unfortunately had to miss this year. The first year I did the route you took from Alabama up to Chattanooga. Last year we started outside Louisville and made our way back to Alabama. I must tell you that the merchandise in Kentucky was incredible. There were several locations along the route where you’d find warehouses or large barns with 100+ vendors. If you have time next year I would definitely expand your route and I look forward to seeing you on the route. I am looking forward to the Chapel Market. I’m cutting a vacation to Orlando short by one day so I can attend. Shopping trumps DisneyWorld anytime! Looking forward to meeting you.

Layla
Hi Shelly!
Thank you so much for the info on Kentucky. I will DEFINITELY start up there next year, and hopefully we can meet up somewhere along the way! Look forward to seeing you here in Alabama this Fall! 😀
Sallie
It sounds like so much fun! I heard about the Longest Yard Sale last weekend at Haven Conference. It sounds like a fun vacation and a chance to visit some states I’ve never seen. It’s already on my 2014 calendar. Deep-fried peaches sound amazing!
Ashley
How exciting! I wish we had something like this on the West coast. We have some of the worst garage/yard sales here. I bet something like this would be awesome along Route 66.
Leen
Every year I say “I am going next year” but then I don’t hear about it until it’s over….
I AM going next year….really!
glad you had fun 🙂
Maria@TheBrooklynFig
Fun! What states does it span? I’d love to see and hear about some of your purchases!
Layla
Hi Maria! Here’s a link to my last post about it. There’s a map that shows the exact route from Alabama all the way up to Michigan:

I look forward to blogging about my fun finds as soon as I’ve got ’em cleaned up! 🙂

I just finished posting about my experience selling. You’ll get a kick out of the pictures, I’m sure! Totally agree that everyone must bring bottled water. Although…hm…maybe next yr I should also sell water at my “booth.” 🙂

p.s. In case you don’t see it, my post is at http://www.thewritesteph.com!

My Grandma Peggy was the ultimate garage-saler and my would she have loved this! I have such wonderful memories of shopping sales with her and my patient Grandad. I still think garage sales are a great place to treasure hunt.

Thanks for the advice, Layla! Deep fried peaches? YUM!

We have the several cities long Rt 11 yard crawl next weekend and I CANNOT wait to go! Your instaphotos just made it harder!
Melissa
My husband and I have gone on this sale a number of times. The first year we rented a room in Chattanooga. Then on our first morning we drove two hours north parallel to the Longest Yard Sale. We then jumped onto the route and worked our way South back down to our hotel room in Chattanooga. On the second day we checked out of the hotel and drove home along the route and through Gadsden and back to Montgomery.
That worked out so well that it is how we do the yard sale. We don’t always stay in Chattanooga, but we pick a city to rent a hotel room and then head North of it and work our way back down. It guarantees we have a place to stay overnight.
Love The Longest Yard Sale. I even bought my car based on our Longest Yard Sale trips: a Honda Element.
JOY
We’ve been every year for about the last 7 all over KY, but last year we made it to the end in AL and this year we finished off at the Northern end. I’ve posted our adventures on my blog. enJOYed seeing yours and you are so right about your tips. Don’t forget the sunscreen or long sleeve shirt and hat!

I saw a piece about this on the news today. I would be in so much trouble if I had that many yard sales to hit up. My husband and I used to go to yard sales every Saturday morning. You can seriously find some great stuff at them.
Gaela
My hubby and I went again this year because of your reminder. 🙂 We scored with a pair of $15 green metal pendant lights that were out of a post office. Also, we got some antique corbels for $2. Love, love, love going “yard-saleing” with my hubby. 😀
Julie B. [Holland]
looks like a wondeful and fun experience!
Melissa
We keep a cooler in the car full of bottled water. Every night we toss the melted ice and in the morning fill it with new ice. So much cheaper than buying water along the way.
Abby
I seriously have covetous feeling about that desk.
Maclaine
Will you forgive me if I hope that you will miss it next year because you will be too busy being a Momma?
Haley
I live in Chattanooga and would love to meet you for some garage sale-ing if you go next year as well. My husband and I just bought our forever home and I can’t wait to find some treasures to fill it with.
Molly
We are headed here this year! for a girls trip! Will you be going again?! We are starting in Hunstville Friday mornin and heading back to South of Louisville (home) on Saturday evening 🙂 Hope to see you on the route.. you are like a celeb to me! hahaha!
