“Bondye Bon.”
‘God is good’ in Haitian Creole

Is there anything sweeter than a man holding his child?
Nope. There is not. 😉
I snapped those photos while we were in Haiti in 2015, but Kevin is the one who taught me how to use our camera. Did you know he teaches folks how to use their DSLRs? Yep. He and his friend Josh created a website called ShootFlyShoot.com in 2012 and have helped over 10,000 satisfied students to date. Pretty cool, huh? I’m so proud of him. He’s as sharp as a tack and a natural teacher. Patient, prepared, and always thinking about things from the learners perspective. (PS -I shoot with a Canon 7D and love it, but the principles Kevin and Josh teach would apply no matter what kind of camera someone was using.)
Anywho, if you want to learn the simple 3-step process guaranteed to give you full control of your DSLR camera quickly and without tech overwhelm, he’s running a “Spring (Price) Break” special this weekend. You can get their Photography 101 or Photography 102 courses for 60% off, and their Secrets of Photography course for over 90% off. They’re video classes and you can watch them at your own pace whenever you have time, forever. You just log on whenever it’s convenient and see the guys literally demonstrate what buttons to push and which settings to use. I’m happy to share about it here today because it truly is an incredible way to learn and from the very best teachers in all the land. 🙂
Don’t take my word for it though…here are some testimonials I snagged from their site:
“This course CHANGED my life when it comes to photography. I still go back and reference it often. So grateful for a course that is very clear-cut and not intimidating at all. Literally changed my photography skills!” -Trinity Holmes, Circa34.com
“I just finished the Photography 101 course last week and I’ve been shooting in manual ever since…and with confidence! THANK YOU!! Your course was excellent! It’s like bells and whistles were going off all over the place and I was having one “A-Ha” moment after another!” -Kendra Goff
“Did a senior shoot yesterday…third shoot done in manual! Y’all started me shooting in manual and I haven’t stopped since. Thanks for helping this 14-year-old photographer!” – Savannah Batton
“Einstein said, ‘If you can’t explain it simply, then you don’t understand it well enough.’ Well, you two understand photography completely because you made it sooo easy to understand!! Good Job!” – Kim Nelson, Kim Nelson Photography

Spring Break sale aside, I gotta tell ya, my favorite thing about putting together this post was reliving the memories of meeting our boy. It almost feels like a dream now! Three years and nine months of working to bring him home and POOF! He’s been here nearly three years already!
Another neat thing about posting these particular pics is that the last time I shared them I was forced to cover his cute little face because we weren’t allowed to share his identity until he was legally our son. And then once he got home, I started taking and sharing new photos, so these have just been hanging out on a hard drive for the past few years. What a trip to re-publish them without that pesky, red, clip art heart today! 😀
And speaking of kiddos…
We’re driving up to north Alabama next week to meet the folks at Davidson Farms. You may remember I shared about them earlier this year. Because the kids who live there are in the State’s care, I’ll need to protect their identities too, but I do look forward to taking my camera and telling you all about our visit when we get back!
Happy weekend, friend-
Layla

Yay! I’ve been a professional photographer for about 5 years but since your husband helped create this (and I trust that you guys make amazing content), I’m going to get the bundle and help one of my assistants learn more! Yay can’t wait to dig in! Also, those younger photos of Steevenson 😭😭 precious!!! ♥️♥️
Katie (the haven on the hill)
Thank you, Katie! Your assistants will LOVE the classes and will learn so much in a way that feels fun. Keep us posted!
And thank you for the kind words about our pics of Steevenson. I can’t look at them without smiling! 😀
This information came at a great time, I’ve been looking for information about how to use my camera that has sat in my closet for a year because it’s overwhelming to me. I will definitely check out your husband’s site! Also, looking forward to hearing about your trip to Davidson’s Farm!
Thank you, Colleen! You’ll be shooting like a pro in no time! 😀 And I can hardly wait to share with you about Davidson Farms. Thanks for sharing in my excitement about that!
When I first started my recipe/party blog I knew absolutely nothing about shooting photos with a DSLR – and it showed! I took the courses over on ShootFlyShoot and it changed my life. I made cheat sheets on my notes app and it wasn’t long before I didn’t need them. The teaching style is so easy to understand and it’s the only course I recommend. The courses helped me fall in love with photography.
Oh, that was so fun to read, Alli! 😀 I was the same way. I used to have to ask Kevin to take all my blog photos, but when I finally just forced myself to sit down and watch a few of his videos, everything clicked and I knew how to shoot. I never asked him again after that point!
Thank you for sharing those first photos of Steevenson & Kevin. I just recently started following you and adore your family. So amazing to see how much your kiddo has grown! Beautiful!!!
Hi Layla!!
I’m a new photographer just starting to get my feet wet, trying to begin this new chapter and seeing your post couodnt come at a better time. I’ve been shooting for friends and family for free and just really want to take it to the next level. I have no training just passion to capture beautiful moments. Do you know when the discount will end?
Hi Alena! How exciting! And the sale ends Monday. 😀
Thank you so much for sharing this! Just signed up and can’t wait to get more comfortable and improve as a photographer! Love your family photos!
I took both the 101 and 102 and I refer back to them often! Great classes that I highly recommend to any one!
PS, you’re right, there’s nothing sweeter!
My Son Zeke (17) has been asking for a camera. What one would you recommend for a smart beginner? These classes sound perfect for him.
A Canon Rebel or Canon 7D would be my pick! 😀 We use KEH.com to purchase all our equipment. They’re the best! Even their “Bargain”-rated products are top notch!
