The Guest House

Mar 1, 2015 By Layla

We’re staying at the guest house here at Three Angels Children’s Relief.

Three Angels Childrens Relief | Haiti | Guest House

It’s managed by a woman named Sandy, who moved down from the States a few years ago, and she has done a wonderful job of making us feel welcome.

Mark | Bible Verse | Three Angels Childrens Relief

Every day at 7:30am, 12:30 and 5:30pm she rings this bell…

…and whoever is around, gathers in the kitchen for a prayer, and to load up their plates.

Sandy always serves dessert for after supper, too. Everything from chocolate chip muffins, to baklava, to Texas sheet cake, to homemade sorbet. Mmmm!

Michele (on the left in the photo above) also works here at the guest house. She doesn’t speak English, but we exchange smiles and bonjours every morning. She has the most beautiful voice, and to hear her softly singing “10,000 Reasons” in Creole is such a gift.

We eat all of our meals out in the patio area…

…and this cooler holds the only water that is safe to drink:

(Don’t worry Mom, I’m filling up my water bottle several times a day. 😉 )

Here are a couple of photos of “our” bedroom. Kevin sleeps on the bed next to the window…

…and I’m on the bottom bunk on the other side of the room:

He slept on the top bunk the first couple of days, but the whole bed would shake whenever one of us rolled over, so we decided that wasn’t the best arrangement. 😀 (We haven’t really seen/been bitten by any mosquitos, but I like having the net up, just in case.)

We’ve been using the my bunk for naps and reading (and watching and re-watching videos of Sweet P!) during the day.

I set up a snack bar on top of the dresser over by Kevin’s bed…

…but with all of cooking that’s going on in the kitchen, we haven’t really needed to snack very much!

One of our favorite places to relax is up on the roof, above the guest house:

The view is breathtaking…

…and you can see the ocean from this side:

I wish you could hear what it sounds like to be up there. Roosters, cars, children, adults, music, wind, birds…this place never sleeps, and I will never forget the way it sounds from up there.

If Sweet P doesn’t have preschool, we walk over to the orphanage after breakfast, and then again after lunch. I’ve been posting photos and videos of him over on my Instagram account if you’re interested in seeing/hearing snippets from our time together. He is absolutely precious and we miss him the minute we leave the orphanage every day!

And speaking of the baby house, Three Angels just published a post about a little girl named Angeline who also lives at the orphanage. They are currently looking for a family to adopt her, so I wanted to help spread the word about her here, too. To read the post, click on the banner below:

Thank you so much for taking the time to click through, and please feel free to continue to spread the word about sweet Angeline if you feel compelled to do so! XO

Here’s hoping the instagram pics will make it to your blog for those of us whom cannot follow Instagram (perhaps when you get home)?

Safe travels and tons of fun memory-making time for you both!

P.S. 10,000 Reasons is such a great song! Funny, I was just singing it (in English) around the house on the weekend. Too weird! And yet SO cool!

I’m so excited to see you all in Haiti and with your son. I can’t wait until he comes home! How much time each day do you get with him? I’ll be so sad when you have to leave him behind, but very happy that he is coming home soon. Thank you for sharing your journey.

What a wonderful gift these ladies are giving to the visitors there. All your focus can be spent on your little one with no worry of meals. 10,000 reasons in different languages yet sung to the same One we worship. Beautiful.

What a blessing the guest house is, and what a precious girl Angeline is! I wish we were in a place financially to consider adoption- it breaks my heart that she is waiting and they have to seek out a family for her! I will be praying for God to send her family to her through this blog, and continuing to pray for your sweet family and your time in Haiti, as well.

What a beautiful thing that is happening to your family! This is what happens when lots of people pray together! What a miracle he is! I will say some prayers for Angeline and ask around. I am so excited to see pictures of him in his cute room!

I’m sure you’ve thought of this already, but maybe you could leave something of yours and Kevin’s (like a shirt or something) that will help Sweet P feel close to you until you meet again. I’ve been praying for you all!

I wish my family could financially be able to adopt now. I always wanted to adopt, since I was little. Will be praying for a sweet family to open their hearts & home for sweet baby girl.
