Sonny Says

Nov 13, 2016 By Layla

Layla and Steevenson

1. If you show him a wristwatch and ask him what time it is, he will always (completely seriously) answer, “time to go for a golf cart ride“.

2. He is certain that the phrase, “shiver me timbers” is actually pronounced “shiver me timburgers“. #adorable

Rubble Paw Patrol Pirate

(Click on the photo above and listen to Rubble at minute mark 1:52 if you’d like to hear Steevenson’s favorite part. 😉 )

3. He asked me if we could listen to “Lions, tigers and Jesus” the other day, and I eventually figured out that he was talking about this song/video (that he LOVES)…

5. I try not to giggle every time he (innocently) sings, “captivated by your booty” during the line, “captivated by your beauty” in “Lions, tigers & Jesus”. 😉

4. If you were to peek through our front door around 6pm each night, you would find the three of us eating dinner together at the far end of our table. In between bites, you will also likely find Steevenson playing air drums, me playing air piano, and Kevin playing air guitar to one of Steevenson’s favorite songs. Lately, we’ve been air jamming to “Just Say Jesus“, “Flawless” and “Never Too Far Gone“. Here’s a short video of Steevenson tearin’ it up after we had finished eating and were watching the Just Say Jesus music video one night…

(The part that starts at :49 slays me every time! #DrummerBoy)

6. Steevenson asked if I wanted to wear socks to bed the other night. I told him “no” and said something about liking to sleep with “bare feet”. Boy, you should’ve seen the look on his face as he pointed at my feet and giggled his way through, “Nooooo, mama!! You not have BEAR FEET!” 😀 I spent the next several minutes cracking up with him as I struggled to explain the difference between bare and bear, ha!

Happy Monday, y’all…thanks for letting me share these moments-I-don’t-want-to-forget with you!

Layla

I can understand his confusion about words in a song. Whenever I hear the song “Jesus in the real world” It sounds like Jesus in a wiggle worm! He is a cutie for sure!

Oh my word! I can’t even stand all the cuteness! And his rhythm!!! And he waits for the beat… and.. and… it goes on and on… “Just say Jesus!” This is enough to get me through the day. Bless!!!

This was a great way to get my morning started off with a warm heart and laughter! Your posts are always insightful, motivating and inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing your life here. I’ve learned so much from you, from home design to adoption. Your recommendation long ago of the book, The Connected Child, inspired me to read it and buy a copy for my friend who adopted foster children years ago and hadn’t been given any of that information. It explained so much! Thanks again! Big ((HUGS)) and blessings to your family! Love the air drums!

What a doll! I think he’s got the makings of a great drummer! You can see he gets the timing, etc!

Love it! Can’t wait until I get to experience similar moments with my great nephew. Things are looking up but he’s still in Haiti for now.

So cute, these are the things that need to be documented and remembered! He’s going to love it later.
    thanks for sharing your journey….

question, where are Max and Kit Kat? haven’t seen them in any of the videos or photos….

      Thanks, Juli! 🙂

Kit-Cat is still here, but he’s going to be an inside/outside kitty after his vet appointment next week. Steevenson just isn’t comfortable with him in the house, and it’s disrupting his ability to get comfortable here. I’ll have to share more about his thoughts on cats in a future post.

Because Steevenson is so afraid/not at all fond of Kit-Cat, Max is still with our dog-sitter, but will be adopted by a friend of my mom’s next month. We tried getting the two of them acquainted, but Steevenson did *not* respond well to having a hyper/clingy dog in our house, and *really* didn’t want him on our laps or in our bed. We’re sad to see Max go, but we kind of expected it would be a difficult situation for Steevenson to come into and we were open to whatever felt right for him.

Layla–I’m sitting here with a huge lump in my throat at the “booty” of it all! Your Sonny, now at your table, rocking out to Jesus music. Your journey has inspired me beyond what I can express. Bless you all.

I truly believe God gave him the “drummer” gift! If y’all don’t get him a “his size” set of drums for Christmas, I will! 😉 I live nearby, so I can do it! LOL! Blessings to your precious family!

Our daughter very earnestly sings God is on the Moon rather that God is on the Move. I can’t correct her because it is too cute! She also sings you are my sunshine with the line “ho-de-ho dear” instead of “you’ll never know dear.” Those are the stories you will tell at Thanksgiving when he is an adult. 🙂

I adore Steevenson, and I adore how you are encouraging him to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so completely. I cried watching the African video. Just blew me away, and I loved seeing Steevenson’s air drums. He is the cutest little boy, and he has my heart. Can you even imagine how wonderful Heaven is going to be with all those joyous voices from around the world singing in unity to the King of Kings? Makes me happy just to think about it. Thank you sor sharing. Layla. Love reading about your Sonny… or maybe you should change that to Sunny. He’s a ray of sunshine, for sure.

#ijustmelt Thank you for sharing the joy! One of my daughters used to sing, ” I am a friend of God, he calls me Fred .” I know you cherish these moments!

oh thank you Layla..so enjoyable..and watched the videos..it will be interesting to see who Steevenson grows into..what God has in mind.
And like others, the music video moved my heart as well.
Our God is an awesome God, and we need to share what we have with our family of God overseas.

So sweet! I love the “bear feet” story! 🙂 My 7-year-old and I had a conversation today about one of his phrases for reading. It said, “soared in the sky,” and he promptly started telling me all the reasons why you should NEVER throw a sword in the sky. Ha! 🙂

SO cute! And he’s a really great drummer, too! It’s awesome that you are writing these down, we actually have something called “the purple book” (I even blogged about it once) at our house where we write down funny things the kids say or do. They love to pull it out and read it aloud and laugh until their sides ache and the crazy things they’ve said and done. Makes my mama heart happy, especially since I’m sure I’d forget these things if I hadn’t written them down!
