Hi!
The Design Network is launching part 2 of our “Cottage Style Kids Room” webisode this morning (Monday), and they’re hosting a really fun giveaway to go along with it.
One lucky watcher/commenter is going to win $1000!
All you have to do to enter for a chance to win is leave a comment underneath the “Cottage Style Kids Room- Part 2” webisode (over on their website). In your comment, tell the folks at TDN about your favorite kids room-related decorating idea. It could be something you’ve incorporated into your own home, or that you’ve seen online, or in a magazine or at someone else’s home. They’ll select the winner on Monday, October 13th and I’ll announce their name in my blog post on Wednesday, October 15th.
I’ve had so much fun creating this special space for our sonny boy.
I published my first blog post about it on December 30th last year, and it has been such a sweet part of my past 9 months.
The bins and baskets are empty right now, but we’re looking forward to filling them up together when he gets home. 🙂
(The rope table lamp we started with ended up moving into the hallway a few months ago, and the wood block one lives on his nightstand now.)
And speaking of my Sweet P, we’re hoping and praying for a very exciting adoption update this week. I can’t share any details, but it sure feels like we are getting soooo close to meeting our boy!
I’ve had “It Is Well” on repeat all afternoon today…
Grander earth has quaked before
Moved by the sound of His voice
Seas that are shaken and stirred
Can be calmed and broken for my regard
Through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
Through it all, through it all
It is well
Through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
It is well with me
Far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can’t see
And this mountain that’s in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea
So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
We’re coming for you, baby boy…the Waves and Wind still know your name, too.
Layla, The room looks great. He is going to love it.
I have to tell you that song is amazing. Isn’t that so true we need to keep our eyes on him through the worst storms? Thanks for sharing that today.
What a very fortunate little boy he is going to feel – for so very many reasons. Fingers crossed and good thoughts sent your way for the best news this week.
Thank you for sharing that song. Touched my heart. I am praying for your happy ending to happen soon so you can have your happy beginning!
I LOVE the bed! Your son is going to thrive in this room; he is a lucky little boy on so many levels.
Layla, what a beautiful room and post! You and Kevin are such an inspiration in so many ways. I hope you receive wonderful news this week and will soon be snuggling with your sweet boy.
Sweet room…what a blessed little boy! I am praying all works out soon. The song is beautiful and such a good reminder to trust in His timing. Thank you for sharing.
Layla,
The room is absolutely fabulous! You should be very proud knowing your little one will have such a lovely room! I’m praying that the adoption process will be finalized soon! Thank you for sharing such a beautiful song to start off the week!
Layla,
I cried and THEN cried out to God for you this morning. We went through the pain, agony and ABSOLUTE JOY with our son and daughter-in-law as we waited and waited for the arrival of our granddaughter from Guatemala. I’m sure you’re in the pain and agony part of it right now, but hold on, girlfriend, such JOY you will not imagine will be coming SOON.
Love the boys room 🙂 Thank you for posting the music. With Him all is always well!!!
His room is just gorgeous. All that’s missing is your little boy and the mess kids create! I hope you have good news (and a messy room) soon xx
Praying for you and your sweet boy. He will enjoy his room and his mommy and daddy 🙂
Thank you for that song this morning. We’ve had a terrible tragedy in our little town this weekend and I so needed that this morning. Praise God even in times of despair. So looking forward to hearing your good news later this week. Still praying for you, Kevin and Sweet P. Thanks for sharing.
Layla… I’ve got chills just thinking about you guys getting to be with your little boy very soon!
The room looks beautiful. He is one blessed little boy. And it will be well with His soul too. You make me cry this morning, but they are happy tears :). Praying for you sweet Layla. Keep your eyes on Him.
Omigosh. Patience. It is HARD! But tolerable when you have faith. Thank you for this lovely post.
Can’t wait to” meet” the little man!
Layla,
This is such a beautiful post. I love your son’s room and am keeping my fingers crossed for the best possible news for your family week!
So many of us are out here praying for and you and your family which includes this sweet precious boy. I am so looking forward to rejoicing with you when you bring him home!!
Amen!
LOVE!!!!! This room is so amazing. What a blessed little boy to be able to have you guys for parents. I love the picture grouping at the bottom of the bed too. <3
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that little room. Your decor never disappoints – always inspires. THANK YOU. I love how you incorporate “old” doors & repurpose them from the bedroom door, cabinet door, laundry counter – and I have used one for a table & seen some as desks. The options are endless and yet it gives a touch from the past with such character.
Btw…thank you for also sharing your journey & reminding us all…God’s got this so “it is well with our souls…” whatever we are going through.
Beautiful rooms, thank you for sharing this, I know God is listening to your prayers.
Amazing room/Amazing Mommy and Daddy.
Layla, my heart seizes each time I see one of your posts about your precious boy – is he here yet, Lord? is he at least closer? How are Layla and Kevin? Are you holding them fast, Lord? Today’s post confirms that the day IS getting closer and that, because of God’s love and grace, you and Kevin are well and standing strong in that belief and faith. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful song (timely and tear-producing for me as am sure it was for you.) And thanks especially for sharing another glimpse of the sweet chubby legs that will soon be running around exploring the beautiful HOME you are creating for him. Hugs and continued blessings…
I love the idea of the ottoman beside the bed. Making it easy for little legs to get in and out of bed. Lovely touch.
I can see your little one peering out that side window in the mornings. Love the room.
This post, this song. I’m in tears. As you are preparing to welcome your son home, I am saying farewell to mine. Yes, he’s a grow man, but my baby boy nonetheless. In less than an hour we will head out for the airport, where he will board a plane to Antarctica and then, eventually, nine months at the South Pole. An extraordinary journey awaits him. While I am ecstatic for his opportunity, my heart screams “No! It’s soooooooo far away!” Thanks. I needed a good cry!
Praying your son has a safe trip to the South Pole! What a grand adventure he’ll have!
What a great post! The room looks amazing. Blessings.
Seriously had a mini worship service listening to this today. THANK YOU so much for sharing–I needed that word today. Praying for your wait and for travel news SOON. <3
Your boy’s room is positively darling. If I had to use one word to describe it, it would be love. It has love written all over it in fancy script!
As for that song, thank-you for sharing and introducing it to me / us. It’s so powerful and totally reinforces positive thoughts for the day, no matter what they may be. Love how certain phrases just creep back to you as a reminder.
Praying your boy comes home soon! We and the baskets patiently wait along with you.
The room is amazing!
I just have to say when I saw “it is well” on your page, I needed to write this. I know your adopting a sweet boy from Haiti what a joy! We have some dear ones in our church who have been leading teams to Haiti for 20 years or so, recently the husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and past away 3 weeks ago. It has been a time of great mourning. That song was played at his funeral, it has been been deep in my soul. As the wife of a Pastor, I have been to many funerals, but this one broke me, he was 40. One of the things he did was build playgrounds and facilities for an orphanage in Haiti. Not sure if he worked with the same one where your boys is, but it seemed to correlate in so many ways! Here is their website: http://www.christianfriendshipministries.org/. Blessings, I will continue to pray your boys come home SOON!
So cute! It’s getting closer, I am so excited for you. Praying that the day comes soon that you hold your baby in your arms.
The room looks fantastic Layla – beautiful. All ready for when it’s little occupant arrives. Can you share how you navigated the electrical outlets behind the built-ins? I noticed them on the Part ! video – are there cut outs to accommodate them that your carpenter integrated in the build? Great job with the room! 🙂
Thank you, our trails are different but I needed the reminder, will be playing this song a lot.
Still praying for that paperwork to be signed so you can meet & more importantly bring home your Sweet P.
God bless you & yours, Laura
Beautiful!
Do you mind if telling me the name/brand of the white paint you used?
Thank you, Vivi! It’s Simply White by Benjamin Moore. 🙂
What an inspirational room! It came together beuatifully. He will be one blessed and loved boy!
Through it All…through it all….my eyes are on you! Love that song!
I love this room! I am redoing my grandson’s room in my home…going to use many of your ideas. BTW…that song is so deep…perfect reminder for a situation in my family. He sees us all through the storms…faith…trust. God bless you and Kevin…pray your good news comes early this week.
What a very lucky boy…both for the room and for such thoughtful parents! Can I ask where you got the plantation shutters that only cover the bottom half of the window? I’d love to do something like that in my kitchen…it might finally be the perfect solution to the argument my husband & I have been having for a year…privacy vs. natural light 🙂
Thank you, Jen! We ordered them through Home Depot and would love to install them on the other windows upstairs…one by one, over time. 🙂
Thank you for sharing! This song greatly ministered to this mama’s heart! Standing in the storm and learning to say “It is well with my soul”! Blessings to you and your growing family!
So excited for you guys to bring your little man home!!
My 12 yr old son would luv a room remodel but we’ll have to really think about what the main idea would be when we win!!!
I love this room. My son has a similar bed that I think I’ll paint black after seeing this!
I also love that you and Kevin love Bethel. I have so many friends at that church. I visited it back in March, and if I lived in that area, I’d definitely be going there!
what a beautiful room and what an exciting time for you both. we adopted a girl and a boy from chimaltengo guatemala. i also had the rooms done in advance hoping that they would like them and feel comfortable. i especially like the built in storage. as we did not have room for that, we turned an ikea bookcase on its side and it now doubles as a window bench and houses books and games in baskets. will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers xxxx
Layla, as always, you have made your “little man’s” room look fantastic! He is going to absolutely love it. I can’t wait to see future posts showing off his little touches he has added to the room.
Layla, What a beautiful little boy’s room and lovely post. My best to you and your family. 🙂
I just found you. I love that you and my precious granddaughter share the same name and spelling! What a great room for a very blessed little boy. How old is he? I love the song you shared. My husband is near by and he was touched as well.
I look forward to your posts. Blessings on all your family.
“We’re coming for you baby boy…” Oh chills! His room is SO cute and so ready for him to settle in. I can only imagine how ready your hearts are as well…
So beautiful! Love bethel worship!! Prayers for you sweet friend!

I so love your style! I know that sweet boy will love you both so much. Keeping you in thoughts and prayers.

I rarely comment, but just had to say…I can not WAIT to read an update regarding your adoption. Thank you so much for sharing this part of your life with us.

He is truly a lucky little boy!
