Happy Monday…and happy November! 🙂
My e-friend Melissa‘s awesome new book The Inspired Room was released today, and to celebrate, she’s inviting folks to share posts about rooms they’ve had the most fun decorating!
One room popped immediately to my mind when I read her invitation. It was in our previous home, and (I *think*) it started life as a bathroom, then (at some point before we bought the house) morphed into a closet, then was put to work as a reading room/guest bedroom nook when I eventually got ahold of it.
The salvaged wood on the back wall is old gymnasium flooring, and Kevin built the daybed out of plywood and 2x4s. I painted the walls, bed and (temporary plywood) floor ‘Moonlight White’, by Benjamin Moore.
I don’t have the high-res photos of the space anymore (that hard drive went kaput last year), but here a few I found in different spots around my blog:
What a treat that space was to dream up! Here’s a link to my original post about it if you’d like to read more about it: Reading Room Redo
…and before I sign off, here’s a fun sneak peek inside Melissa’s book:
Happy dreaming and decorating, y’all!

I too love that room! See it all the time on Pinterest! I may have to get that book for my daughter’s Christmas gift. She loves learning about decorating.

OH my gosh Layla is that the cutest room. Loved it. Very creative use of space. Love the ladder also. Thanks for sharing Melissa’s new book. Popped into Barnes and Noble yesterday and there it was..

Miranda
That room is just perfect!! You are one super talented lady!
Trivial Q. Is that Melissa’s voice on the video or her daughter’s? I’ve been following her for awhile now, & I’m just curious 🙂
Layla
I’m not sure, Miranda! I was wondering the same thing though! 😀
Mindy
This is still one of my favorite spaces, too.
Kris
That room was what first attracted me to your blog. Do you find that small spaces are more fun to decorate than large ones?
Layla
BIG TIME, Kris. I am WAAAAY more inspired by a small space than a large one. As a matter of fact, we’re ADDING another wall to our house in the near future. 😀

I think this was one of the first rooms I saw that made me curious to seek out the Lettered Cottage, and that felt like the look I was going for. Then..who would know other than God, how much more came with that, when you opened your heart to your readers, and the faith you came to, and that has enriched all of our lives.
I have a room, similar, that is slowly evolving into one I hope to dream, pray, grow and create in, all for His glory.
