“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
―Marcel Proust
Times like these, I wish you were here. I’m making a pan full of apple crisp!
Peeling and chopping…
Zesting and squeezing…
Cinnamon and nutmeg, mmmmm!
Times like these, I wish you were here so we could chat about the AWESOME old Sunbeam Mixmaster I borrowed from my across-the-street neighbor/friend, Suzanne.
No, wait. Scratch that. Times like these, I wish you could meet my across-the-street neighbor/friend Suzanne. You would love her. She’s roots and wings, right from the get-go. A charming gardner, for sure. She sent me a text about meteors last night. Said she saw two of them shoot straight across the sky on her way home from town. She’s that friend. The kind that notices those kinds of things, and the kind that notices you seem to like those kinds of things an awful lot, too. 🙂
And when the apple crisp is ready…
… well, you both better pull up a chair and grab a spoon! 😀
PS- Here’s a link to the apple crisp recipe: Old-Fashioned Apple Crisp. It’s an Ina Garten recipe and it is absolutely delicious!
Love you friend! You’re watering lots of plants on this side of the street, too!
SUZANNE! 😀 Be on the lookout for something else that will need watering this afternoon, too. 😉
Yummy recipe! Thank you!
You are going to LOVE it, Jane!
I have been missing posts your posts too. Checked my spam file but they weren’t there either. I checked in today, just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything 😉 Just wanted to let you know. I’ll sign up again if it continues.
Thanks, Paula! You may have to re-sign up. (I’m sorry!) If you’d like to give it a try, I sure would love to hear if it worked! XO
That apple crisp looks so yummy! Do you feel like you are nesting? 🙂
Oh my goodness, I think I do, Kathleen!! 😀
Apple Crisp – yum – wish I had some for breakfast. 🙂
Yes! Apple crisp for breakfast is the BEST! 😀
You are just too sweet Layla. Love all your posts, your energy, your spirit, your heart. I saw this yesterday on Beckie’s post and clicked the link to see your details on the cupboards. I was pleased to see a very old post from you–actually Kevin. The end of the post made me smile wide. It began with “One more thing though….” Wishing you and Kevin a WONDERFUL Christmas season. Thanks for bringing such JOY to us all. 🙂
Aw, thank you sweet Kristin. It’s always so much fun to see your name pop up here! XO
That apple crisp looks yummy and I do like mine with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream! Happy Day Layla!
Thank you, Julia! 😀
Oh, the perfect treat on a winters day! I can ALMOST smell is cooking : )
For some reason I am not receiving your blog sent to the address above. Miss it.
Hmmm…can you check to see if they’re going to your spam folder, Robbie? My mom and Kevin found there’s there and had to re-direct them to their main inbox. Thanks for check with me! XO
I had to look twice to see that I had the right blog (haha)! The apple crisp looks amazing. I just wanted to add that even though I haven’t spent that much time with Suzanne I have to second everything you said about her. She is the kind of person that everyone should have as a friend. I’m so lucky that she is MY neighbor too!
I just had leftover apple crisp for breakfast this morning! I consider it “breakfast dessert” after having eggs or peanut butter toast. Look forward to trying out this recipe, because it’s always fun to tweak them a bit. Thanks for your wonderful holiday posts. Merry Christmas!!
Layla,
I do love a good recipe. This apple crisp looks especially cozy and yummy! I will have to try it out this weekend. It would make a nice Christmas morning breakfast too. Thanks for sharing it with us. It sounds like your neighbor/friend, is a sweet gal just like you.
A good friend is wonderful!! And the last picture of the apple crisp in that lovely blue bowl against the white counter top is awesome!! Magazine worthy and I bet delicious too!! Love your blog!! and your home!
Thank you so much, Dawna! I appreciate your kind comment so much, and hope you are having a very Merry Christmas season this year! XO
Love your blog. My granddaughter’s name is Layla. Love the name and spelling. The apple crisp sounds great. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thank you, Kathie! Hope y’all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, too! XO (Say hi to Layla for me!) 😀
Layla, oh my word, yum, looks so good! (Then again so does everything from Ina!) Is your kitchen scale a vintage piece or modern? My husband and I have been looking for a good kitchen scale for a long time – we seem to find a lot of recipes that require by weight measurements. If it’s a modern piece, I’d love to know where you found it!
Happy holidays,
The kitchen scale is vintage, Shirley. My mom gave it to me for Christmas one year and I just love it!
This sounds delicious! Pinning!
It is, Jenn! You are going to love it! 😀
This looks amazing! Wish we were neighbors Layla. I’d be over there with a spoon in a second! x
