A Natural Makeup Routine

Jul 30, 2017 By Layla

Happy Monday, y’all! Did you have a nice weekend? Can you believe it’s going to be AUGUST tomorrow?!?!?!?!? Flashes, I tell ya. The years just feel more and more like flashes these days.

Today, I invited my friend Rachel from Shades of Blue Interiors over to guest post. She did a makeup tutorial in her Insta-stories a couple weeks ago and I insisted she come over here and show y’all all the hows, whats and whys too. She always looks so fresh-faced, and her eyebrows deserve some kind of award if you ask me. 😉 So without further ado…here’s Rachel!

Hey y’all!

I’m excited to be guest posting here today and also a little nervous. Ya see, this is my first time posting anything beauty-related on my or anyone else’s blog. I normally blog about home decor, DIY, and furniture building, on Shades of Blue Interiors. I’ve always loved makeup, and even worked as a beauty consultant for a couple years, teaching mini-classes and periodically doing wedding makeup, but I’ve always kept those interests separate from my blog. However, after getting lots of questions about it on Instagram, and showing a snippet of my daily routine in my Insta-stories a couple weeks ago, Layla convinced me to do a guest post!

Let me just start by saying I think good skincare is the best thing you can do for your face– it gives you a smoother and cleaner ‘canvas’ before you apply anything. This makeup routine of mine looks good at any time of the year and can easily go from day to night by just changing up the eye shadow a little and/or using a different lipstick.

Products Used (some affiliate links used):

Note: I linked to my friend Janette’s Mary Kay page below for those who don’t already have consultant and are interested in checking out the MK products I use. She’s here in Missouri, and ships things super fast because she has lots of everything, but there are local consultants everywhere if you’d rather find one that’s close to you.

Mary Kay TimeWise Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation (I’m Beige 4 in the summer and Ivory 5 in the winter)

Mary Kay Mineral Bronzing Powder in Light-Medium

Maskcara IIID Foundation HAC Compact – Pearl Illuminator, White Peach Highlighting Cream (not used in video), Pink Grapefruit Lip + Cheek Cream, Walnut Contouring Cream (not used in video)

IT Cosmetics, Naturally Pretty Palette Vol. 1 (all matte shadows), Soft Light & Mocha used for eyebrows, and All Heart used for eyelids

Mary Kay Liquid Eyeliner Pen – Black

Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara – Black

Brushes:

Liquid Foundation Brush

Cheek Contour Brush

Blush Brush

Angle Brush

Eyeshadow Blending Brush

And that’s everything! To see a longer version of this video, check it out on my YouTube Channel. Thanks so much for watching and have a great week!

Is she good at that or what?! 😀 My favorite is the highlighter. And the eye brows. 😉

Y’all, I’m really loving the idea of branching this blog further into all-things “lifestyle” so that I can share a little bit more of everything around here. Home, family, beauty, food, fashion, travel- sound fun? Those tabs at the top of my home page could use a little updating anyway. Happy week!

Love the video!!! If I were only blonde . . . don’t think those colors would work for us brunettes :)!!! I love your blog just the way it is, but life is more than just decorating. I love your posts on your faith, and your family, and yes, I like posts on food and makeup!! So you just do what you want . . . I’ll still be here reading away!! Blessings from Missouri!!!

Robbin, I’m in Missouri too! How fun! Just wanted to let you know that all of these colors work for brunettes. : ) The shadows I used on the brows are dark enough that unless you had super black hair, they would still look good (I know, I’ve used them on brunettes before), and the All Heart eye shadow is a great neutral on any skin tone. I actually heard about this entire eye shadow palette from Cara Brook (brunette), who blogs are maskcara.com and who created the Maskcara IIID Foundation palette I was using. She has her own line of eye shadows but before she did, this was her most used eye shadow palette because she even said all the colors work good for every skin tone and hair color (she often used Sunset and Warmth which are right next to All Heart in the palette). Additionally, the foundation and bronzer I used, I have a couple friends who are brunettes and use the same colors! But everyone should find the foundation that matches their skin best! If you are still unsure, I know Ulta will often let you try out a color before you buy it– just ask. 🙂
