Master Bedroom Update: Natura Handspun Jute Rug

May 8, 2016 By Layla

I’m having way too much playing with all my quilts over here, y’all.

Farmhouse Lake Cottage Bedroom Makeover | The Lettered Cottage

I got that one at an antique mall in Florida for $50 a couple years back. (Remember that day, mom?) I think it’s supposed to be for a twin-sized bed, but I don’t care. I love it and it’ll be fun at the end of the bed for a while. 😀 The folks at RugsUSA sent over the Natura Handspun Jute rug and I just love the way it pops off the dark wood floor! It’s an 8×10 and it’s soft underfoot. The texture sort of gives you a mini-massage when you step on it with bare feet. 🙂

My friend Ruthie is painting us a picture to hang above our bed- so I’m suuuuuper excited to see what she creates. She texted me this photo last week and said she was going to use it for inspiration:

Ruthie Carlson

Ruthie lives here in Pike Road too, and I’m so happy the painting is going to reflect a scene from our surroundings!

And speaking of furry locals- Max doesn’t know what to think about all this renovation/redecoration activity.

Black and Tan Chihuahua

Boy is he going to be surprised when Sonny is snuggling in that bed with us!

It’s beautiful, Layla. I do the twin size thing, too. Where did you get your blinds for the windows? Those are exactly what I have been wanting. Thanks.

I’m afraid if I had a rug like that my cats would think it was a scratching post.

Your room is coming together beautifully! I love your rug and would love one in my living room. Please let us know if your cat shreds it! I’m afraid that my kitty would continually scratch it. Thank you!

Thank you, Linda! And our Kit-Cat didn’t come with claws, so I think the rug will stay shred-free. 😉

I think we’re all loving the way the rug pops on the floor as well as ties the blinds and the lamp together. The blue-brown/natural combo is awesome with the white! And it’ll be easy to shop the house and change things up as often as you want with such a neutral backdrop. Fantastic plan with Sweet Pea on his way in just a few weeks! 🙂 Look at you, planning ahead mamma! 🙂 You really have amazing ideas and taste!

Back to the stunning rug – I think we’re also all wondering how the rug will fair with kids and pets. Did the company say anything about the practical side of things? How does one care for such a rug? Do you/can you vacuum it? Is it made in an environmentally-friendly manner?

I’m so excited to see the artwork for above the bed.

I can hardly wait to do my own bedroom spruce up!

Layla, Love the quilt and the jute rug!! I am sure Max will fall in love with Sonny when his special day comes!

Loved hearing about EVERY STEP of your long journey and seeing all the pictures – what a process! Sonny is one lucky little boy to be getting parents like you and Kevin.

Prayers and good thoughts are sent your way. Take care!

Is it soft enough for a living room rug with small boys who like to roll around? I’m interested in a natural fiber rug, but not sure if it will be to scratchy to play on the floor.

    • Layla

      May 12, 2016 at 1:44 pm

It’s not scratchy at all, Alexis. I’d use the words “soft” and “bumpy” to describe the texture.

Jute rug is so oooo hoo nice! I found 8×10 outdoor rugs at Costco in the same colour as jute. They pretty much rock.

Layla! I ADORE that quilt. Did I read that right? It is a twin and you bought it at for $50? SCORE for you! Was it brand new? Does it happen to have a name on it by chance? I’d love to source it and buy it right now!
