Master Bedroom Update: Farmhouse Style Chandelier

May 22, 2016 By Layla

Okay, so remember that inspiration chandelier I put in my inspiration photo-drawing?

Board and Batten | Coastal | Farmhouse | Cottage | Toile | Bedroom | Makeover Plans

I looked at the specs and, turns out, it measures 42 inches wide. 🙁

Feiss Hartsville Chandelier

I loooooved the combination of the dark weathered zinc and weathered oak wood parts and how short it was (perfect for over a bed!), but based on the (wide) width of it, I’m guessing it was meant to hang over a large dining table. Rats!

The folks at Lamps Plus sent over something similar though. It’s called the Quoizel Mirren Chandelier, and it’s only 28 inches wide…

…and now I have a question for you. Mini shades, or bare bulbs? I can’t decide!

Excited to work on the ceiling beams in the next couple of weeks, and Ruthie said our painting will be done soon too! 😀 Did you see this gorgeousness she posted on her Instagram last month?

Ruthie Carlson Art | Low Country Painting

I just saw it the other day and immediately sent her a text saying that I was certain that low country art was my spirit animal. 😉 That painting makes me feel ALL the feels, y’all!!

I go back and forth myself. I once bought 11 shades at Ethan Allen in their clearance section. I have flipped some and turned them into “pots” for preserved boxwood balls. Then I finally switched out my shades on my black chandelier from PB that had linen shades to these. LOVE the texture and warmth they bring to the space. I am a basket freak/wicker crazy lady so I love them. I think Ballard has similar ones. Mine are very thick and wide for the woven part. I think this would add that bit of warmth that the weathered oak would have in your inspiration piece. They would also bring the warmth/colors of the shades on your windows up as well. Then you can always take them down for a change!

No shade for now. What abou adding some strands of small wooden beads- from top to each arm/candle cup?

Beautiful choice you’ve made! Now I am just wondering how high your ceiling is? I am looking at ordering the same fixture now after seeing it in your room. 🙂 I tried using the visualizer tool on the lighting website where I uploaded my room photo and plopped in the fixture…only thing is I have no idea how to size the fixture to scale!

Thanks, Polly! Our ceiling measures 8′-9″ in here, from what I remember!

OK thanks! I called Lamps Plus and the helpful salesgirl actually found the same fixture but in a bit smaller version
for our 7’10” ceilings. PERFECT! 😉

Summer: no shades, light and airy
winter: add shades, cozy and warm
    And always a dimmer @Louise 🙂

Do you have the money for the shades? I like no shades. But wouldn’t it be fun like Erinn said to have shades for winter or just for fun. Then you have them. Think of it as eye candy? Wicker chunky with this quilt makes me think summer. Picnics. Romance. No shades. Carefree. Run out the door with no makeup to drive to a fun spot on a whim. Something else? A different mood. And me. Here I am with the same shades on my must have ceiling fan I still love. It does not wobble 15 years later. But I don’t change my glass shades!!! So I’d say do as you desire. I deep down inside am drawn to the look sans shades.

I agree with Louise, bare bulbs with a dimmer! I have 3 stacks of removed shades in my garage. I keep thinking I’ll want to put them back on someday. Time for them to go!

I guess I think no shade also. I love Edison bulbs.
It’s easier to try without and get the shades at a later date if you feel it’s missing a little something. I love your new room. It’s going to be a great cozy space to cuddle your sweet boy on the mornings he wanders in or nights too actually. ?
