Hay Bale Decorating – 2014

Nov 5, 2014 By Layla

I can’t believe I missed Pike Road’s hay bale decorating contest this year! :-O

We were on our road trip up north when our neighbors got together and created our neighborhood’s display:

Isn’t that fun?! I love the sunset and pallet boardwalk…and those waves are pretty awesome, too!

It ended up coming in 3rd place, so Kevin picked up a map from the Town Hall so we could see which bales came in 1st and 2nd.

1st place went to the “witches brew” bale created by the folks who live in the neighborhood next door…

…and 2nd place went to the folks who created this super-cool skeleton:

I love the white-painted logs as bones and blue colander eyes!

There was also a “Business or Club” category in the contest. These newlywed pigs at John Hall & Sons general store got 1st place…

…and this bumblebee bale created by the Ladies Auxilary got 3rd:

We never did make it over to the Rolling Hills Fire Department to take a picture of their “Dalmation” bale that got 2nd place, but one of my neighbors sent me this picture of it today:

So cute!

There were lots of other fun bales around the county, too. (I heard there were 39 total this year!) Here are a few of my favorites…

Hay Bale Decorating | Tootsie Roll

Hay Bale Decorating | Puppy Dog

Dyin’ to know how they attached the ears and, of course, already racking my brain about what our neighborhood could do for next year’s bale. 😀

Halloween | Husband and Wife

(Kevin and I decided to dress up as each other at the last minute this year. Boy were some of our neighbors confused after it got dark and we passed by their porches- ha! They’d step forward and squint, and you could just about hear their trains of thought: “I *think* that’s Kevin, but something isn’t quite right with Layla.” ) 😀

LOL! I’m laughing so hard at the pics of you and Kevin! That’s so funny!
I loved your neighborhood’s hay bale display. 🙂 I thought the hay bale was the setting sun, though, instead of a rainbow. Like, a couple is sitting on the boardwalk watching the setting sun melt into the water. It was fantastic, either way!
