“I’m interested in having fun with ideas, throwing them up in the air like confetti and then running under them.”
―Ray Bradbury
I’ve really been having fun pulling together pieces for the gallery wall side of the living room. Little by little, it’s coming together! I noticed it’s a little dim over there at night though, so I had an idea to flank the gallery with wall sconces instead of two more framed pictures. I had some Pottery Barn bonus bucks burning a hole in my purse, and I was so excited when I discovered their polished nickel Kira sconces were 50% off. The only problem was I didn’t want polished nickel Kira sconces. I wanted oil-rubbed bronze Kira sconces…which, of course, aren’t available anymore.?
I didn’t know if spray paint would stick to the slick, shiny metal, but we decided it was worth a shot, so we went for it…and it worked!
We got the cord covers at Home Depot, and I don’t *love* that they’re visible, but that’s what I get for not installing wall sconces when that planked wall was under construction. Oh well.
You wanna know what’s really got me on Cloud 9 this week? SWEET P’s BUDDY SAMUEL IS COMING HOME!! 😀
Kevin and I are road-tripping to Louisiana to welcome and take photos for them at the airport on Saturday. I could turn into confetti just thinking about it!!
I LOVE the way your gallery wall turned out. I told Matt I wouldn’t hang ANY gallery walls in this house because it’s a short term house and I didn’t want to put a bunch of holes in the walls. Now I’m having a hard time resisting! OK… but I really commented to say that I am soo excited to see their homecoming pics and so thankful that you’ll get to take them! Is anyone taking any video?! Love you guys!
Jess have you thought about trying 3M hanging strips for a hole-free gallery wall? I have been using some of the velcro tabs in my kitchen to hold a heavy powerstrip full of cords at a reachable height (plugs are way heavier and more intense here in Europe) and it hasn’t moved an inch! I totally get your not wanting to have a million holes to patch but its such a shame to not be able to make the space really your own if you want to 🙂
Anyone who notices the cord covers on that gorgeous gallery wall needs to give their head a shake! Simply beautiful! And as for Samuel, I could just squish that little face! Adorable! So wonderful that you will be their to share in their joy!
Layla, your gallery wall is perfection! It is my all time favorite 😀
Nice. How do you get Pottery Barn bonus bucks? I shop there and I have never heard of them.
Thanks!
Hi Cheryl!
You get them if you’re a Pottery Barn cardholder. I’ve been purchasing curtain panels from them every few months over the past three years (window by window, I’ll get these things covered- lol!) and they send me bonus bucks every time I order a couple of panels. I got one of the framed photos in the gallery wall for $4 thanks to the bonus bucks! 😀
What a wonderful wall gallery you have created. The positioning of all the different kinds of mediums is a work of art. You are SO creative. Can’t even see the cords unless you had mentioned it.
I am in LOVE with your gallery wall and I didn’t even notice the cord covers until you mentioned them.
Samuel is a doll baby! I know this makes you all kinds of excited anticipating your own Sweet P coming home. Soon, Layla, Soon!!!
Those sconce lights would be just right for my entry way. Did you need to do any prep work before spray painting them?
We just taped the cords inside plastic grocery bags. We also taped off the plastic part that the lightbulb sits in.
the sconces turned out GREAT! i am a bit surprised that the paint took so easily to the shiny metal. excellent.
add me to the list of folks who didn’t even notice the cords until you mentioned them. did the shades come with the sconces or did you acquire them elsewhere?
and then i *still* had to look for them. so much other beauty to behold that the cords fade away.
thrilled that you and kevin will get to see sweet samuel’s arrival. how wonderful!
I love your gallery wall too! And the little driftwood sailboats are just what I’m looking for. Where would I find something like that?
Jumping for joy over Samuel……..what a beautiful little boy he is. Can you just imagine what is going thru his sweet little mind??? What anwonderful time tjis is.
Our Sweet P is next. So excited for your day to come too.
(Layla, if you can imagine, our house sale fell thru at the last moment. The credit of our buyers blew up. We are devastated, but know it happened for a reason. We know the reason will be revealed when the time is right…….but gosh…….it’s hard on us right now. 2400 sq ft of boxes is going to storage………we have to sell it again.)
Xoxoxoxo
I have been following you for a long time! We find ourselves moving rather suddenly, and I want to put up a gallery wall like yours. I can’t remember how you made some of the frames “stand out” from the wall? Can you remind me or link me to the post where you shared this process.Thank you so much!
Hi neighbor!
Love, love, love reading your blog and seeing all of the cool ways you decorate!
I was wondering if you would help me hang some family photos up my stairwell?? We have been in our home for almost 3 years and I still haven’t gotten brave enough to tackle this!!! I will gladly pay you to come over and help!!!?☺️?
Thx,
Elizabeth
I’ve been reading for a while but never commented (bad I know) but just had to say what a ray of sunshine you are – I know life is made of ups and downs but thank you so much for sharing your positivity! Confetti!! 🙂
Layla, this wall is just AWESOME! You always exceed my expectations. . .you guys are so clever and talented! Come to RI AND HELLLLLLPPPPPPP me! Lol
Have fun with the homecoming . . I’ll be praying for all of you! XO
I absolutely love your gallery wall. I’ve never tried one before because I strongly dislike clutter. Your wall doesnt feel cluttered at all! It’s fresh, fun, and gorgeous! I might have to try one after all!
It’s truly a winner.. Just love that everything you love is in that wall art.. So happy for Samuel. A new life will begin.. Keep your faith. Sweet Pea is on his way too..
Layla,
Seriously… how do you make it all look as if it’s always been there and so cozy. Your wall is now my latest inspiration for an empty wall (in traffic flow area) we have that so desperately needs so love. Your wall has turned out awesome!
Swoon. Your gallery wall is perfection!!
Love that you’re going to take pictures of that sweet babe’s homecoming! They’ll have the very best photos, because y’all are the BEST.
#confetti ??
You are so sweet, Miranda!! Thank you for the love and encouragement! XO
Lovely! What spray paint did you use on the sconces? I just ordered a ceiling fixture and want to do the same thing (it was $60 less to order the fixture in brushed nickel than bronze – say what?!). 🙂
Love that gallery wall! Those sconces just add even more to it, good choice on spray painting it. I like it a lot better black. As for Samuel that’s so exciting for them! He is SOO adorable I could just squish him.
