Flooring Update: Antique Hickory Laminate Flooring by Swiftlock

Sep 7, 2018 By Layla

Happy Friday!

The rest of our Antique Hickory laminate flooring is going down today and I couldn’t be more excited! We’re laying it on top of our existing engineered hardwood and using a 5-in-1 underlayment in between to help with 1) cushioning, 2) moisture resistance, 3) mold/mildew resistance, 4) sound absorption and 5) to act as a temperature barrier in the winter. Here’s a link to it if you want more information: .

Here’s a sneak peek shot of how the new flooring looks going into the living room:

I still have my summer pillows and gallery grouping on the right side of the room, but it’s Fall on the fireplace, y’all- ha! 😀

You can see the old flooring in the lower left-hand corner of that photo. The whole place feels lighter and brighter and more cheerful with the new stuff. It’s waaaay more durable too. You can throw just about anything at it and it doesn’t scratch one bit. Super easy to get a streak-free clean with a Swiffer mop, and the color is perfect for hiding dust and dirt until I can get to it.

Which reminds me, this particular flooring is no longer in stock, but here are some similar tones that you might want to check out if you’re on the hunt:

I’m sure you can order samples of each if you want to see how they look in real life. I’ll be back soon with some more updated pics of ours!

We also put laminate over our orange toned trashed hardwoods. Best decision ever. We used a laminate from costco that looks and feels exactly like the prego riverbend oak. The patterns and textures are exactly the same but letter price. We love it.

It’s beautiful, Layla! So bright, so you!

Is it a sin that I have antique heart pine floors and secretly want to cover them with something like this? Yeah, they can be refinished but dogs and kids and home improvements and life are really hard on the soft pine. Not to mention refinishing means moving everything out of my house and then finding a place for my big ole family to stay for a week. Its an overwhelming thought.

Cannot wait to see your after pics but I’m in love already!

When you lay the new flooring on top of the existing, does it leave a raised area where two different floors meet?

We won’t have two different flooring types anymore, so everything will be one level! 🙂

We replaced carpet with the Lakeshore Pecan. I COULD not love it more and the PRICE POINT is amazing!! Praying Home Depot NEVER discontinues it!!

Love it! We have a similar look in our basement, and I love it for the color variations within the planks. Wish I had used it on our main floor, although I like what we have for it’s richness of color. It just shows dirt more!

Love the look of your new floors Layla, but I’m smitten with the color of the cabinet to the right of the fireplace and above the mantle. Would you share the mfg and color? Thanks a bunch and happy fall to you too! Susan Beebe

Thanks, Susan! I designed it and a carpenter friend built it. The color is Light French Gray by Sherwin Williams.
