Fireplace Makeover Update: Paint

Jul 9, 2015 By Layla

“Her favorite color is blue. She says that blue is associated with vastness; the skies are blue, the oceans are blue.”
-Mahbod Seraji

Diamond

We brought a little piece of one of our old blue-gray boards to Home Depot and had the paint color-matched.

Because the original color is 130-some years old, I’m guessing it didn’t have a name when it was first mixed.

But every paint color needs a name, right?

“Custom Color Match” just won’t do. How about Blue Yonder?

Yeah. That’s it. Blue Yonder.

Off to finish cleaning the rest of those dirty boards, and to paint the parts that haven’t been Blue Yondered yet. 😉

Neat! 😀 I always thought it would be fun to be the person who gets to choose paint color names! 🙂

It’s beautiful! Funny, when I looked at the video you posted yesterday, I thought the color was the blue tape. I just couldn’t figure out why you were painting the fireplace THAT color. Haha

So beautiful! That picture of you two should be framed and displayed on the mantel when it’s finished.

You and Kevin as so brave in all you do. You have a vision and go for it. It is great to have such a good team. Your little guy is lucky to be drafted into a winning organization!

Since there’s already a Blue Yonder, I think your blue should be Layla Blue or Palmer Blue :-). Or Sweet Pea Blue…

I also LOVE your opening quote. Mahbod Seraji is a friend of mine. Did you read Rooftops of Tehran?

That color is dreamy! If we take the photo of the can to HD, are those the specs to use to get that color? Thanks!!

Beautiful color and a beautiful family. And a post that touches the heart–again. Also, I think Wendy, Pam, and Erin all made great suggestions!! How about “Palmer Blue Yonder??!” Thank you and God bless!

Loving this project of yours! Can you tel me why you went with semi gloss paint as opposed to a flat finish?

    • Layla

      Jul 10, 2015 at 4:17 pm

      Thanks, Sandra! 😀

I only use a flat finish on the ceiling, and we used a semi-gloss here because the old, reclaimed boards we installed look like they have semi-gloss paint on them. (You can really see how they reflect in the video I posted on Facebook and Instagram yesterday.)
