Happy Friday, y’all!
I had fun working on a photo consultation for a gal named Becky this week, and I thought I’d share it here as well in case anyone out there is seeking similar inspiration. She sent me this photo of their exterior…
…and said they want to remove the arched windows and river rock, they want to paint it white, and they want to give it a little more of a farmhouse vibe. Here’s the presto change-o I had fun creating for her in Photoshop:
I gave her one with a darker driveway too:
I know that would be a major change ($) but I thought maybe she’d like to see what it would look like if the house was the only pop of bright since it was easy for me to do it in Photoshop.
I clad the columns by the front door in rustic wood, added wood shutters on the flat parts of the house, and here’s the chimney pic I used to bring in a little wood up there:
And did you notice I suggested adding white-painted wood and trim to visually lengthen the window on the right so it matched the height of the other windows?
She may just decide to add a taller window there, but I wanted to give her an option in case she *didn’t* want to buy another one. Also, I was thinking the trim and wood would be painted the same color as the house, but I showed it a bright white so that she could see what I was talking about better.
My favorite part is the stone path I added in place of the concrete one. It’s little things like that (that aren’t fun to switch up!) that make all the difference, ya know?
Anywho- I’m excited to see what Becky thinks of the photo, and I’m hoping she’ll share their after photos with us too! 😀

PS- If you’d like to learn how to use Photoshop so that you can modify your own photos, I teach a class for beginners/visual learners here: LetteredCottageCreative.com
And if you’re interested in having *me* use Photoshop to modify one of your photos, I’ll be accepting 10 new clients in October. I’ll publish a blog post about my consultation service at 9am CST on Monday, October 2nd that will include information about how to purchase a consultation. Thanks in advance if you decide you want to partner up! XO

She could buy flat stones to lay over the concrete sidewalk. Much easier.
Erin
Or she could use concrete stain and “stencil” the sidewalk.

Hi Layla, Love your blog! I’m interested in your Photoshop class but wondering if it works when using an iPad. Wondering if there are any updates on the in laws bungalow barn coming?
Layla
Yes, you can watch the class there, but you’d want to use a mouse to work in Photoshop.
Erin
I absolutely love what you did with this house! The possibilities of what that interior looks like, based on the exterior, just draws me to that house.

Any idea what color paint a girl should pick if she is in love with this blue door? Mine is too bright (almost haint blue) and I hate it!
Layla
Hmmm…Dutch Tile Blue?

Hi, did you post the info to purchase a photo consultation? Started looking yesterday but don’t see the post. Thanks, and I could really use your help as I’ve had plans for what I want to do but afraid to pull the trigger for months now, worried it won’t look good!
Layla
Hi, Jill! I posted info at the bottom of yesterday’s post. I’m opening up the services *next* Monday at 9am CST. XO
