“Anything that is worth being written on pretty paper is worth being written on ugly paper.”
―Elevetha Houre
You should’ve been here this afternoon- it was 89!
In Alabama!
In AUGUST!!
Who knew we’d luck into such a cold snap this week? 😉
And where did this week go anyway?
Feels like time drags by sooooo slowly when it comes to bringing our Sweet P home, but just absolutely FLIES by, too. Weird how that works.
Fun stuff going on in the dining room right now. I normally shy away from sponsored shout-outs, but I had an opportunity to partner with the folks at RugsUSA, and when their Homespun Trellis showed up on our porch, I couldn’t pull it into the house and under the table fast enough!
I love it because it reminds me of a quilt. I see patchworked squares when I squint. 🙂
I love mixing old and new, and that rug with those old chairs makes me so smiley!
There’s still a little finishing up to do.
There’s a pair of (currently pink and cream) captains chairs that I’d like to re-cover in something a little more “fancy farm-y”. There’s salt and pepper shakers that need, well, salt and pepper…
There’s outgoing mail to stamp and send.
Hmmm….maybe a little outgoing mailbox is in order underneath those switches too?
I’m a frequent card-sender/letter-writer, and sometimes I’ve got 3 or 4 of them stuffed under the raised corner of that plate. Pretty paper, ugly paper…you name it…I send it. 😉

Though our paper pregnancy was about a year, I can totally empathize with your perception of time. What you are doing with your home right now looks like classic “nesting” to me! These productive possibilities will surely soon give way to running feet and contagious giggles!
In love with your dining room!! Love the colors, styling & trinkets/treasures ! Happy weekend friend!!!

Layla, I recently received some old chairs where the cane bottoms need replaced. I found a link that shows how to do it yourself. I’m going to attempt to do it because it doesn’t look too difficult, I’ll keep you posted. Thought I would share. http://www.nicerthannew.com/2014/04/cane/
🙂
Oh, thanks! I just got 2 beautiful chairs that need to be re-caned!!
Love your dining room! I remember how it seemed like our little Sweet “P” would never get here from Africa. That was seven years ago. He is now a proud first grader and has spent two weeks with us this summer. We are such proud grandparents. I wear your t-shirts with pride and tell everyone their story. I shared your site with a couple at the beach who are working on their paperwork for a Sweet “P”. Thank you for sharing.
That rug sure is pretty! Your home is so warm and inviting – just waiting for your Sweet P 🙂
Hey, when did you put curtains over the front door?! Did I miss a post? 🙂
I definitely think you need an out-going mail “box”.
However when you said 89 in Alabama in August, I was thinking, ‘wait, Alabama…aren’t you guys used to the heat?’ And then you said cold snap – I laughed out loud!! We’re having a chilly-summer-snap right now too (in Manitoba) it’s 64F/18C and rainy this morning. 🙂
Cute dining room!
Maryjane
it DOES look like a quilt! how perfect!
thank you for the quote. it is so very true and sometimes i need that reminder.
love to you. happy friday!
I too like the mixture of old with new. Your dining room is so beautiful and welcoming.
So funny! I just ordered (delivery tomorrow!!) a bamboo rug for my living room from RugsUSA. The rug I had was great, but with two dogs, too much hair and dust accumulated. So, we rolled it up and are waiting for the new look!
I love the way you put things together 🙂 It all makes so much sense to me, and seeing that view of your artwork in your living room from the dining room kinda made me swoon. One question……………. do the advertisements need to be on the bottom of your pictures? It is annoying to have to click on each one to see the full shot. 🙁
Hi Layla!
I may have missed some of your older posts that mention this, but where are those seagrass chargers from? I’ve been searching for those for a while!
Love your blog!
Alison
Love the room and the rug! Please warn your readers about returns for Rugsusa. I found them through another blogger and ordered a large rug. Although it was nice, the colors weren’t right. It cost half the price of the rug to return it and almost four weeks to get my money back. So be very sure you want to keep it!
I read a great quote a long time ago. It was in reference to parenting but I think it applies to life in general… “The days are long but the years are short.” Love the rug!
I love the quote at the beginning! Oh, and the rug too… 😉 And seriously, send some of that cold weather over here to Hotlanta. We neeeeeed it!
Man, do you have a special eye for putting rooms together just so!! Everything About your spaces are just the right lovely to me!!! Great job!
Kim
It looks perfect!
Kayla, I’m not getting th posts from your blog. Do some reason they have stopped. You site tells me I’m subscribed. Thanks Deborah
OOOH, that rug is stunning. Our puppy ate our rug and I think now that it’s a year later, he has enough manners that we might be able to get a new one soon. I love geometric rugs and really pulls the room together, very nice!
Your room is so pretty and inviting! Where did you get the white dishes from?
It’s so pretty! I love the pattern! It’s funny how “cold” it was in your part of alabama… Here in Andalusia it was still hella hot!
