Dining Chair Makeover (Part 2)

Aug 4, 2015 By Layla

“Sister Parish, I think, was the originator of making mattress ticking what it is today. In the ’40s, she was already using it as upholstery. It’s like the most beautiful simple cotton dress. We once did a whole room in it.”

I decided to pair August’s blue jeans with a classic blue & white ticking stripe.

It’s one of my favorite patterns…

…and that’s what personalizing a place is all about, right? Sprinkling your favorites here, there, and everywhere?

A little navy blue, a dash of aged brass, a seat full of stripes…and of course: kitty cats.

Can’t forget the kitty cats. 🙂

Love the ticking with the denim. Love the chairs and you are so lucky to have this dining set and all the family history it holds…

I love ticking too! I found some sturdy ticking at Walmart in blue and tan. Used it for pillows and a table runner.

I have to ask – where do you find all the quotes you use in your blog posts? They seem to fit so perfectly each time. I look forward to reading them every day!

Robbie, if you google a few words + quote, (eg. upholstery ticking + quote) you’ll be sure to find a quote, if not several, with your word choice in it. Sounds pretty simple I know…but it is! 🙂

Yes! That is a great way to find quotes, Carol! I also use a lot that I find in books and magazines and on Pinterest. 🙂

I will always remember green ticking stripe with affection – the “official” 4-H uniforms for girls were made up in that.

The ticking is simple and beautiful and pairs perfectly with your denim. Lucky those who will sit at your table.

The ticking stripe was a great choice to pair with the denim! Love how your dining space is coming along. Can’t wait to see the fireplace when it’s all finished! Love that you included kitty in the photo.

I like it. I remember when all pillows used to have covers like that!
