My Dash & Albert Rug Samples!

Jan 9, 2018 By Layla

Happy Tuesday, guys!

So, remember a while back when I was part of Annie’s Selke’s Rug Design Challenge?

And y’all cast so many votes for all three of my submissions they all made it into the top 10 and are being produced by Annie’s Dash & Albert company this year? (Thank you again for your support, guys!!) Well, I’ve got a question for you now that I’ve seen the sample rugs via email. It’s about the Homes Hardware (formerly Homer Hardware) rug. (We switched it up a bit to avoid any potential copyright issues.) Here’s my final design inspired by one of my favorite historic advertising murals:

And here are photos of the samples they created for me to view. The first one is a jute flat weave with the design screen printed on it:

The second and third are a combo of cotton and wool with woven detailing:

The second one is a charcoal gray color, and the writing on the third one is solid black, so I’m assuming the colors could be changed if I wanted to go darker on the second one or lighter on the third one, etc.

Here are close-up photos of each. You can really see how the design is screen printed onto the jute in this first one:

I’m assuming the design would go all the way to the edges on the real thing. I wonder how it would wear though? Like, would it crack over time as people stepped on it? And would that look bad? Or just add to the overall antique-ness of it? I’ll have to check with the folks at Annie Selke about that.

I’m guessing these two would feel a little softer to the touch:

As for the rest of the design, I was sad to see the circles in the lower right and left go, but I can see how they would make the design more complex and maybe even too busy.

Anywho- my question is: which one is your favorite? One, two or three? I’d sure appreciate your vote on the poll below. I feel like I’d be most inclined to purchase #2…and it looks most like my original submission, but I do like elements of the first and third too, so….?

Thanks for weighing in, guys! I’ll show you the samples of the other two rugs once they’ve got the colors and textures corrected a bit.

Layla

PS- I *think* they plan to launch the line in April, but it could be as late as Fall depending on how long it takes to get them just right.
