Closer

Mar 8, 2013 By Layla

Did I tell you Kevin started playing with the worship team at our church last Fall?

Yep. He usually plays at church every other Sunday, and I can’t tell you how full I feel for him as he grows his relationship with God through music every day.

We were invited to a casual dinner for worship team members at our church’s office in Prattville a couple of weeks ago, and it was so fun to hang out with all the folks he’s been rehearsing/playing with at church!

We sat six to a table, and dined on chicken kebabs and banana pudding. Okay fine- there were other side dishes, but the banana pudding was INCREDIBLE! I don’t even really care for bananas, but I can’t believe I didn’t know about the amazingness that is banana pudding until I moved to the South. If you haven’t ever tried it, and aren’t allergic to bananas- you must experience a spoonful soon!

Our (folding) table was covered in a simple, paper tablecloth that night, and a single yellow flower leaned against the rim of a blue mason jar in the middle of the table in front of me. Kevin sat to my left, and fellow worship team member, Ashley Wade, sat to my right.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard Ashley sing.

It was in May of last year, and it was the first time we had ever attended Centerpoint. I left the building with my sunglasses on that day (ifyaknowwhatImean)- largely in part because of the way her gift/spirit made me feel. Girl’s got a way with worship!

I shot some video footage of her and my hubby while they recorded some just-for-fun vocals and guitar at our house earlier this week. Click the play button on the video player below if you’d like to watch and listen:

I hope it leaves your shoulders feeling a little bit lighter, and your heart feeling a whole bunch’a happy!

PS- I look forward to sharing more music from Ashley and all the other talented folks on Centerpoint‘s worship team in the future!

You have such impeccable timing! I was just thinking last week that I must’ve missed the post where you gave us an update about Kevin’s audition, but just KNEW he would be asked to join the worship team! God is so at work in both of your lives and it’s wonderful to see you using the amazing talents he’s given you for Him. (Makes me think of Eph 3:20).

The song was incredible – thank you, thank you SO much for sharing it with all of us!

Please tell me they have plans to collaborate on a project! Her voice is fantastically amazing. I’ve never posted to your or any blog but this really is something special.

P.S. I have family in Prattville (pronounced Prattvull) and I’ve been too long gone from the South. I get homesick when I read your blog sometimes. Thanks!!!!! 🙂

P.P.S. I love how you’re still sloppy over your hubby. I love mine the same way and even though we’re going on 9 years next month I still get excited when he comes through the door!

Absoultely amazing! Kevin and Ashley are both truly talented! It’s amazing seeing God use someone with their talent and put them excatly where they belong, I can truly see in this video that God is using him right where he intends. What a blessing! Praying for you both on your adoption journey!!

One of my favorite worship-basking-in-His-presence songs…I have to say that, not only did it leave me in tears with my heart in my throat, but it left me feeling like I had spent some time wrapped in my Savior’s arms this morning. Much-needed, and I am so thankful that I visited your site today. I always leave filled up~Thanks for sharing Layla : )

I’m not from the south but you just reminded me of my mothers banana pudding. She use to serve it in individual brown diamond cut glasses. When i saw them sitting on the counter i knew what we were having for dessert. I can’t believe I forgot all about her making that for my brother and I. Thank you for reminding me of a happy memory of my childhood. I needed that today.

Also thank you for sharing your husband and Ashley’s talents. I have goose bumps and my heart is full. What a beautiful voice you have Ashley Wade.
