Christmas in the Kitchen

Dec 8, 2016 By Layla

I told you Steevenson thought we should “put some Christmas in the kitchen” after seeing his bedroom the other day, right? Well, I finally got around to adding some festive touches today…

Nothing over-the-top. Just a few things here and there…

We made a big batch of these mason jar cookies together after preschool. (I got it at Publix, in case anyone is wondering!)

Any guesses as to what he’s peeking over the island at in this shot? 🙂

First person to guess correctly gets…hmmm…a surprise! 🙂 And, yes, those cookie balls are ginormous, and I should’ve used a second sheet, but they turned out deeee-licious, so who cares, right? 😀 We brought some to our neighbors, the Popes, and Steevenson invited himself right in for dinner- ha! (Thanks again for sharing your spaghetti with him, Suzanne!)

Here’s a short video of “Mr. Awesome” in action if you’d like to watch. 🙂

His sense of wonder and contagious enthusiasm make me smile so big! I have SO much I want to write about him…and his dreamboat daddy…*sigh*…but I’ll have to save those stories for another day. It’s almost midnight and the sugar in those cookies wore off hours ago. 🙂

Happy weekend, friend!

Layla

Your kitchen looks lovely and festive, but sorry once again Steevenson stole the show?! He is such a good baker and quick! Made me laugh about him inviting himself in at neighbors for dinner! I’m pretty sure if he showed up at my door I couldn’t resist having him join us for dinner either! Wonderful Christmas memories for all of you! Happy Holidays!

I teared up with tears of joy for you watching the video. It makes me remember our first Christmas with our adopted kiddos 6 years ago. I’m pretty sure my smile was as big as yours is now. Thanks for sharing your journey, struggles and joys alike. It’s been beautiful watching God unfold it. The memories are so so precious. Merriest Christmas ever.

Love, Love, Love every priceless minute you share with your sweet baby!,,
Do not let Stevenson hear me say the word baby but no matter what age, they are always our baby.?.
I would guess he may be eyeing his adorable self in the mirror.
Happy Friday. Big internet hugs to you all .

I think Stevenson is looking at the cookies on the cooling rack waiting and wondering when he can eat one.

Is he watching KitKat? My naughty kitties are always hopping up on our barstools. ? Your son is absolutely ADORABLE! His video inspired me to bake with my little ones (2,4 & 6yo) TODAY.

He’s gotta be watching a bit of Paw Patrol!
Love his speed at rolling up that dough, it’s just like my 5 yr. old granddaughter does. She just wants to get to the end as fast as she can! I would LOVE to see how he decorates cookies with icing and sprinkles. 🙂
I’m so glad he is loving preschool too. That has to be the best, knowing that he is getting more comfortable in his new world.
I love your touches of Christmas, so soothing and understated. Very much says “HOME.”

What fun, happy memories you are building! My paranoid self is wondering if KitKat will try to eat your poinsettia … I can’t have one in the house because my cat (who is convinced he is on starvation rations) would nibble at it!

Steevenson might be peeking at “grandmother “. Those cookies look delicious!

Layla, Dallas and I were wondering where you got your kitchen stools. We have them in chairs in the dining room. Ours are dark brown and they are chipping all over. I figure if we get them in the natural color, if they chip, you can’t see it. Dallas wants to paint ours and I know it won’t work, but I am going to let him do it anyway. Then I think we will want to get some natural ones like yours. Can you help me?

Oh my!!! When did Steevenson have this latest growth spurt?!!! He’s grown at home with you!!! It’s fun isn’t it? Focus on the fun? I had an old fashioned calendar with a box that I wrote down something my child did that first year. The box isn’t large so it’s a quick “diary”. It was a way to focus on one good thing each day!! I taught school–1st grade–
And we did this at the end of the day. the kids weren’t allowed to say I had recess nor I had a great day. They had to be specific. I went to library today. It was a great day! It reinforced punctuation but also caused them to be thinking about good things throughout the day as they knew they’d have to write something. But wouldn’t it be a fun thing just to jot a bit each day. And read a year from now!!!! (Since you don’t really have an infant book) just another chore for you?!! Seriously I spent five minutes on it at end of day and then did some Bible reading. My kids got up very early for morning quiet time?✝️
